12:55 AM
hey there @Green

11 hours later…
11:28 AM

3 hours later…
2:00 PM
@Shalvenay Hey!

1 hour later…
3:12 PM
@Green Sup Verde?

@James That is one character away from another famous French word.

3:53 PM
@23fc9a62-56de-47fb-97b4-737890 ???

Merde.
Technically, it's only two tittles away.
(Or is it jots?)

@23fc9a62-56de-47fb-97b4-737890 two, isn't it? Isn't e and é a little different?

@AndyD273 Hmmm, I guess.

I mean, I don't know human languages details that much... so I'm probably wrong...

@AndyD273 I think it's like the difference between "lead" (to direct, guide), and "lead" (the metal), but instead of being phonetic, it's explicitly written. Leading someone and the material lead are very different so the difference is big from the perspective of meaning and pronunciation. From the spelling "lead" and "lead" have no difference, and "e" and "é" have little difference, but the end result can be huge.

4:01 PM
@NexTerren Sure, I get that, but are e and é considered different letters?

Oh, no. They have the "normal" 26 letter latin-based alphabet. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_orthography#Alphabet

2 hours later…
6:10 PM
@23fc9a62-56de-47fb-97b4-737890 Sup Merde?

6:20 PM
hey @HDE226868

@Green What's up today?

@James Doing some testing for a customer. Not anything really exciting.
How are your projects going?
Oh, and monkeylords.com expired last week.

@Green Awww...that was fun. I've been wondering what else we could do that would be less time intensive that would be entertaining. The concept was fun too...not to mention the potential swag.

@James hehehe :D You and your swag.
I don't think we had any problems with creating content. We on WB. Creating worlds is what we do. But, we all suck at marketing and building an audience.

@Green I love swag. Finally got the journals sorted out too, we should be getting them ordered next week.
@Green Yeah we didn't put much effort into that...we set it up but never really got around to actually you know...doing it.

6:30 PM
@Green Competency tests.
That's what I'll be doing this weekend.

...I really want to write a comic, I just never seem to have the time.

@James It's a challenge I plan to get good at when I start building up support for my game.
@James Go the XKCD route and make the drawings really easy. Are you trying to focus on the art, the characters or the story?
@23fc9a62-56de-47fb-97b4-737890 test for competency in what? Are you writing them or taking them?

Taking them. Dev skills.
@James You could go the OOTS route and just do an illustrated story of a DND adventure.
With the benefit of being able to tweak the dice rolls if you really want something to happen.

@Green What would you think about tying that into monkey lords. Just as a brand umbrella? Its yours and yours alone obviously but it would be kinda neat to create a network of products/entertainment that could sort of feed off of each other.
@23fc9a62-56de-47fb-97b4-737890 There have been entertaining moments at the table...it would be easy enough to do something like that.
@Green It would need to be story and characters, my are skills are...meh.

@James I was going to name it Resist with Vigor Studios.

6:35 PM
@Green ...its a good name lol.

@James Yeah, it makes me laugh a lot when I think about it.

And I suppose you could still do that and tie it into the ML site if you wanted to in the future.

@James Yeah, I could....will have to see how things turn out though.

@Green Hey, how goes it?

@HDE226868 It goes well. I'm getting acquianted with numpy and pandas for some simulations I need to run.

6:40 PM
Oooh, pandas. I've heard good things about that one.
What do the simulations involve?

I'm back!

@HDE226868 Simulating a stock and options market for up to five stocks and six market participants. It's to make sure that my game is balanced and does what I want.
No simulation can test if it's fun though. That involves real world testing with live people.

In layperson's terms, what does a (stock) option mean in this scenario?

A stock option is a contract that gives the buyer the right but not obligation to buy/sell a given stock within the next XX months once the stock goes above/below a certain price. This definition holds true in the game too.

@Green Not only to buy/sell, but usually to buy/sell at a given price.

6:46 PM
@23fc9a62-56de-47fb-97b4-737890 Yes, very true.

It's especially important when someone thinks the price will change significantly.

@Green Is it something that could be set up over a hangouts connection?

So they can buy cheap if the price goes up and immediately sell high.
Or sell high even after the price plummets.

@AndyD273 Yep!

@Green When you get to the playtesting phase let me know!

6:55 PM
@AndyD273 I sure will.

Could even get @Nex and @James and have a Monkey Lords reunion

@AndyD273 If HDE has time, I'd like to get them involved too. Someone who has never used or talked about options would be a valuable asset to make sure the concepts are clearly explained and approachable.

Sounds good. My only real experience with options was in playing Sim Farm, where you tried real hard to get some good prices on options for your crops, instead of waiting to sell after you harvest.

@AndyD273 that works really well too.

Looking forward to trying it out

7:11 PM
Big brain thoughts. Jigglypuff is just Kirby from the My Little Pony world.

@NexTerren Except that it doesn't seem to inhale and absorb it's enemies. Also, how is it from the MLP world?

@ObsoleteUsername Hi!

lookwise though... Yeah, I can kinda see it

7:34 PM
Hi! I kind of forgot I had the browser tab open still.
Got distracted surfing the web

@ObsoleteUsername That's at least better than "I got swamped working"
@James When are you going to push out details about the notebooks?
I was just thinking about it again last night, but it slipped my mind today

7:51 PM
@AndyD273 Probably next week. Cost may be lower than originally anticipated.

I'm currently on summer vacation and don't quite have to worry about work at the moment. I've earned some money doing hours of yard work for neighbours, but that's about it.
Gardening can be a surprising amount of work, though.

@ObsoleteUsername I find gardening cathartic.
I also really like the word cathartic.

@James Walking releases my emotions.
Being emotional takes a surprising amount of energy.

Think attacking weeds twice the size as you with pliers. I agree that it can be carthartic. It's also nice to be paid for doing so,ething you enjoy.

I find if I walk myself tired, eventually I can just completely let things go.

7:57 PM
@23fc9a62-56de-47fb-97b4-737890 I find they take more energy than virtually anything else.

Doing. Sorry, it's so hard to type on a tiny screen. Especially if you're a touch typer.

If I walk out until I start to give things up, then walking back makes me tired enough to completely release. If I head back too soon, they can re-grow.

I'm used to a much bigger keyboard.

@James That's right.

@James I agree with that, too. Time of day helps me, early morning or evening takes a lot less out of me physically.
What's stuff you all like doing in the summer? I also happen to be a huge fan of swimming.

8:02 PM
@ObsoleteUsername Swimming is good.

@ObsoleteUsername My body is of the opinion that swimming is good, but sinking is better.
Unfortunately, that's one skill I've not been able to master.

I've almost always had a garden. I've always hated gardening. This year the garden is one single tomato plant. I can handle that.

I find being underwater surprisingly relaxing.

@ObsoleteUsername Well, duh, you don't have to hold yourself up :D

@AndyD273 lol

8:04 PM
I'm growing a huge pumpkin in my family's garden right now

I like to plant peppers
I have...5 different kinds this year.

I mean, it seems weird because you'd think not breathing for a brief period would be more terrifying than relaxing

My garden is a lupine and a hanging plant I gifted to my mom (I still get to enjoy it).
The lupine has been done since early June, but I hope it comes back next year.

Thai Chilis, Jalapenos, Pepperoncinis, Habaneros and...anaheims? I forget what the last one is.

What's a lupine?

8:06 PM
@ObsoleteUsername I don't know--I often don't breathe for a period.

We also have eggplant, tomatoes, cucumbers and a bunch of herbs, oh and we did lettuce and kale.

They come in various colors; mine is yellow like those.
It looks like a corn cob.
@James Dang, sounds fun.

I mean like the 30 seconds of swimming to the bottom of a pool. It's not comparable to drowning, but it seems weird from a safety perspective to like it, but then again, lots of things humans like to do aren't exactly safe.

@ObsoleteUsername Yeah, we are weird creatures.

Do they grow naturally in North America?
I think I've seen similar plants, but not the exact same thing

8:09 PM
Blue ones. Yellow are domestically developed.
The are early spring prairie flowers.

Can they be a bluish purple? Because I think I've seen that colour.

Yep.
That's the typical color of wild ones.

I used to have a giant field next to my house. Loved to jump one the fence. Long grass that had grass seed, some beautiful wild flowers and dandelion heights that were almost unbelievable.

People stopped going into the field when coyotes and leftover street drugs became more of an issue.
So, not as awesome.

8:13 PM
Yeah, I imagine high coyotes aren't something to be messed with. Also, people suck.

Now condos are being built on the land. Don't want to sound like I hate technology or anything, but I'll still miss that field.

My grandpa tells a story about one of his favorite gravel pits (left over by a couple glaciers) was developed and he still misses it.

That sounds awesome. I remember wishing I could see a coyote myself. Not sure how I would have reacted if I actually encountered one.

They are lean, long-legged dogs.
I've seen them once.

One might not be too bad. A pack might be a bit more scary

8:19 PM
I was told to stand tall and stretch out my arms if I ever saw one. Is that bad advice?

They are less likely to run in packs than wolves.
They are more solitary.
@ObsoleteUsername Nope, that goes for most wild animals, except grizzly and polar bear.
Most animals, you want to make yourself look big and intimidating.

Nope, as in bad advice, or nope as in it works?

Hmm, maybe. I know when they start yipping around my house it usually sounds like there are several in the same general area

And fight back if you tangle.
@AndyD273 Likely are. It's a mix of packs and solitary

Can they actually smell fear? I remember someone telling me to pretend to not be scared because they would know.

8:20 PM
@ObsoleteUsername Of course. If you pay attention, people can smell fear.

@23fc9a62-56de-47fb-97b4-737890 So basically, look big an intimidating, unless they are a lot bigger and more intimidating.

Like literally or you can tell by the way someone is acting?

@AndyD273 Grizzly you play dead. They don't attack dead animals really.
Most other animals will still maul you, so you fight back.
Polar bear, you just have to kill them, because they'll just kill you.
@ObsoleteUsername No, you can smell it.

How about moose?

It's got kind of an acrid taste.
@AndyD273 Moose and other herbivores you try not to trigger a charge.

8:23 PM
I'm not the best at detecting sarcasm. I often take words literally.

If they charge, you aren't likely to survive, so you want to convince them to not charge (look big, but back off before you push them too far is a good idea).
@ObsoleteUsername Same.

From my understanding, wolves don't attack moose, so I guess coyotes wouldn't either?

It's most noticeable when you are afraid yourself--you can smell it. It's harder with other people, and you have to be close.
@ObsoleteUsername They do, though.

Really?

@ObsoleteUsername I think they will if the pack is big enough, and they are hungry enough
Surround it and bite at the heels every time it turns

8:24 PM
I think Wikipedia told me otherwise. I'm going to check that my mind just isn't messing with me.

I thought wolves do/did attack Canadi--erm, I mean, moose?

They are more likely to take down the young, the weak, and the old, but they will attack a healthy one if they are hungry.

Or that someone else wasn't trolling people

There are lots of videos.

Wolves generally plod along wearing their prey down until it is exhausted and then kill it. They aren't like big cats that use power to take prey down.

Of wolves attacking moose?

@James Much like people.

"During chase and confrontation wolves test their prey. Wolves attack only about 1 out of every ten moose that they chase down. They kill 8 or 9 of every ten moose that they decide to attack. The decision to attack or not is a vicious tension between intense hunger and wanting not to be killed by your food."

Wolves and people are both endurance hunters.

They will go after a Moose...but again...moose are the biggest land mammals in north america...so thats a dangerous choice for dinner.

8:26 PM
@AndyD273 I found the same site!

Wolves attack only about 1 out of every ten moose that they chase down. They kill 8 or 9 of every ten moose that they decide to attack. The decision to attack or not is a vicious tension between intense hunger and wanting not to be killed by your food. Wolves typically attack moose at the rump and nose
@NexTerren Top of the list...

@James Bison are bigger by weight, about the same for shoulder height.

So it's avoided in the sense of it's easier/less effort to eat something else, like a rabbit?

@ObsoleteUsername Maybe something more than one member of the pack can enjoy, but yes.

It makes sense.

8:28 PM
Say, Elk or whitetail.
Or, a flock of geese.

Like the noble wolf, I too like not being killed by my food.
4

The geese are too stupid to fly, so multiple wolves in the water can get them scared enough they fly from one and land right by another.

@AndyD273 Stars for you.

@James Thank you, thank you, I'm here all week... which is about 7 more minutes.

@AndyD273 Yeah, I've had about enough of work for the week.

8:30 PM
That's a literary reference, isn't it? For some reason I'm torn between the two books I think it might be from.

I feel like you're going to encounter a lot of envious people on this site. Cougar sightings are not common. Snuggling one is almost unheard of. — ShemSeger Sep 19 '18 at 16:43
Wacky cougar...
(And yes, I mean the animal...)

@23fc9a62-56de-47fb-97b4-737890 ...and coffee in my nose.

Darn it... Too many cougar jokes to choose from.
@ObsoleteUsername which reference?

Noble wolf

Ah, could be. It sounded good, but I have so many story snippets in my head it could be from anywhere

8:34 PM
@ObsoleteUsername Ugh...ok that does sound familiar from some sort of comedy but I am struggling.
...are you thinking of the hangover?

Well, I'm out. Gotta go pick up the children, and everyone else in the office already left.

@AndyD273 Enjoy the weekend dude.

you too!

Maybe it's because it sounds like something so great we must have heard it before? Anyways, enjoy your weekend!
I was not thinking of the hangover.

@23fc9a62-56de-47fb-97b4-737890 I mean, both kinds are animals.

8:39 PM
By the way, I've noticed people making specific replies. How exactly do I do that?

@ObsoleteUsername There's a little arrow at the end of the post you can click (desktop).

@ObsoleteUsername Mouse over a reply, far right, click the "return" arrow.

If you are on mobile, it's a right-click, then Reply at the top of the window.

@23fc9a62-56de-47fb-97b4-737890 like this

I'm out too, have a good weekend all.

8:40 PM
"If you are on mobile, it's a right-click"

Let me stop you right there.

@James Take care, J-man.

I'm here for another 50 minutes :)
See you, @AndyD273 and @James.

@NexTerren That does sound kind of impossible
Unless you're using an attached keyboard or mouse
Have a good weekend!
Random thought: what is everyone's opinion on brussel sprouts? A lot of peop
People seem to think I'm weird for liking them

They are like peas. Good in small quantities.

8:52 PM
@ObsoleteUsername Delicious when pan cooked with some butter.
I think they're my favorite vegetable?
And now I'm out.
Talk to you gents later.
Don't burn down the chatroom after I leave.
Or do, and make James build a new one.

Goodbye! I'll try not to burn anything

@NexTerren #flamestrike

I promise!

*pours gasoline*
*applies match*

On that note, my sister just said no to Orange juice because she wants candy
In the most serious way. It was kind of funny. Like why would I want ororange juice when there's candy over there?
She's 5.
Anyways, I'm going to leave as well. Maybe I'll see you all, tomorrow?

9:02 PM
See you.
What'll I do for the next 30 minutes?

9:22 PM
@23fc9a62-56de-47fb-97b4-737890 Sleep.

Read tech articles :)
Install the .NET Core 3.0 preview 8 (final) SDK.
Reboot my system from the KACE update this morning.
