@HDE226868 found where I read it... But you've already seen it too, so it may be less useful to you. astronomy.stackexchange.com/a/6566

Our 7 day rolling average is really close to 20 questions
if we get 20 today we should hit it

Q: For how long are moderators elected?

T3 H40I just had a look at the election page, and noticed that multiple candidates that were nominating themselves for moderation already are mods. They stated, [they]'d like to continue as a moderator [...] This made me wonder. I also visited and voted on the 2016 elections over at StackOverflo...

1:14 PM
@James Yeah, I remember that. At the time you had really limited experience over the whole network. That's clearly no longer the case. You've got reputation, you've been active in reviews and flagging etc, basically you now have the experience you lacked then :). I encourage you to go for it...although given we have a really strong field already you're up against tough competition :)

Dunno if it's been posted already, but here are some data query stats on the current candidates: [data.stackexchange link](goo.gl/sWo5iO)
Find your potential candidate score here: goo.gl/sWo5iO

Candidate score really doesn't mean much, does it?

Nope. I for one am SURE Monica will win, despite not topping out on rep like some of the other candidates.

I have a higher score than a lot of the people I'd rather have as a moderator
oh yeah, I guess rep really does factor in more than it should

4:29 PM
@Aify, wow, that's a lot of downvotes. I feel I've been remiss

4:42 PM
nearly equal up and downvotes, yeah that's unusual
my stats on that are pretty ridiculous
5,269 up. 31 down
lol
generally I close things rather than downvoting them I guess

So my Balloon-Whales question hasn't flopped, so that's pretty cool :)
Actually, it's my best performing question so far... which isn't saying all that much

@AndyD273 well my bigfoot question flopped. I need to think through this better, I'm planning on another mythical beast question during this session

Just what is this?:

Q: Would the use of the X-shaped item used as described be legitimate?

Jamama JermingmingsinsSuppose we lived in a world where humans did not eat certain things for religious, ethical, precautious, health, solidarietive activism, focus on zero-distance production, and on minimized or absent machine use for food preparation so as to save energy and other reasons. Suppose such humans were ...

@Hohmannfan AAAAAAhhhh it looks like a big block of text

Is that dis-encouraged?

well, it certainly doesn't help for readability
it's also Turing-test-dropout-level gibberish
I wish the best of luck to anyone who can figure out what the question is

6:03 PM
@SerbanTanasa yea, I don't hold back when I think a question is bad - and I don't hold back either if I think it's good.

6:18 PM
@bowlturner I dunno. I had a few thoughts for your question, but couldn't answer because on hold... This is something like what I would have answered:
So could it hide undiscovered? Actually it might be able to. You will hear of new species being discovered, or old species being rediscovered that everyone thought was dead, so it's not unheard of for species to hide out in a secluded area for a long period of time.
So say a very remote valley high in the most remote and secluded areas of the tagia, far enough away from anything to make mineral exploration impractical.
This species is also very territorial, so any creatures that are vaiguly ape shaped, like humans, would be seen as interlopers and attacked.
Meaning anyone that does happen to get to close to the valley just disappears in the wilderness, never to be heard from again. Between, winter, wolves, bear, moose, and accidents there are enough dangers that a small number of trappers/explorers could go missing from bigfoot attack without anyone noticing.

Q: Creating a Siren song

Tim BMany myths have creatures like sirens who can use their voices to lure men to their deaths. But is there any way a creature could exist in the real world that had that power? I don't just mean fooling animals by using scent or color to lure them in, I mean actually causing humans to approach wit...

science based mythical creatures. Rah :)
I'm pretty sure our 7 day question average will be over 20 by end of today. Be impressive if the 2 week one hits that :)
Bah, I just noticed that the "beta users" rep froze when the site graduated. I should have written some more answers and bagged that top spot :p
Worldbuildingworldbuilding.stackexchange.com

Launched Q&A site for writers/artists using science, geography and culture to construct imaginary worlds and settings.

7:23 PM
Btw, i've been meaning to ask, but what do you higher repped people think about the two questions I've posted on creature design that included pictures of a model of the creature? I intend to ask more question with different creature models in the future, and any feedback would be appreciated

7:59 PM
@Aify I'm not super high repped, but it does kind of help the reader to visualize what you mean. Trying to describe the creature with the mouth away from it's head would be a lot harder using just words. Just my 0.02

@AndyD273 So that's a good thing then, I presume? (Also you have double my rep; eg: high rep user)

Personally, I don't think that the pictures take anything away from the question, and it does save some potential confusion when trying to get the real question across. Also, the questions seem to be well received, which is more valuable than my opinion

8:24 PM
@Aify I'd say that any information is good information, so long as it doesn't distract people from your actual question.
people tend to get distracted easily

10:13 PM
ouch, my uploaded mother in law question has been getting a fair bit of flak
oh well, at least it's on the HNQ list

yes, I saw that
congrates

not it it only gets downvotes
i guess people are sensitive about their in-laws

really?
haha
wow, you had 3 downvotes, surprising.
I think they must be mother-in-laws... ;)

Wow. I just got a Mortarboard badge... on meta! oO

i think it was the passed away stuff
fixed

10:18 PM
I didn't know you could get those

@bilbo_pingouin wow, neat
@SerbanTanasa maybe. Some people are 'sensitive'

@bowlturner I wouldn't have been against getting that rep for real... on the other hand, I don't have to worry about the fact that the next two hours I would be missing on rep ;)

@bilbo_pingouin, mortarboard on meta is excellent

@bilbo_pingouin It's just a cool thing. I don't think I've gotten 20 upvotes on meta in a week.

Well I got it for the election's question I guess...
one of my suggestion gathered some 10+ votes, that is already a virtual 100 rep

10:23 PM
I've barely scrapped that by today on the main site.

me neither, not a single rep point on main for me today....
but I'm full of virtual ones ;)

meh, got a nice round 49

Q: Is there a quick way to see which WB questions are on the HNQ roster?

Serban TanasaThese are the Hot Network Questions (HNQ) that gets displayed across the entire set of Stacks: A different group of questions seem to get placed on it on refresh. Night
@SerbanTanasa I see 5 WB questions on HNQ now

yeah, we're taking over their roster, muhahaha

there's not history of hotness, but 5 isn't unheard of, even if not so common....
we often are on the HQN...

11:05 PM
We have six now, five on the first page alone.
And the sixth only just got on.

Q: Where Can I Go To Make My Worldbuilding Easy?

JohnWDaileyIs there any website where I just type the scenario and it automatically does that? Like, for example, I physically eliminate a country or alter the height or path of a mountain range or even an ocean's depth? Like, for another example, the cause being a southwardly advancing ice and the effect...
