18:40
@Fabby community dealing with it - nice.
19:07
@Stephie At Ask Ubuntu we need a lot of that, so I'm used to do every day queue reviewing...
@Fabby that’s what I did before the diamond.
Watching my favorite Zumba class right by... <sigh>
But the ankle is still toast.
@Stephie Still???
Wow!
The doc mumbled something about six months and no jumping for the rest of the year.
I exercise mentally.
@Stephie :D :D :D
And I need to update my CV.
19:14
Good to keep the spirit up!
@Stephie that bad at work?
Need a CV review?
@Fabby I have a hunch that I’ll be having a few interviews soon.
Just came off one.
@Fabby thanks for the offer, I’m fine. I have someone who’s familiar with the company-specific lingo.
@Fabby oh? Good or bad?
@Stephie I always think they're good until they tell me they hired the other guy...
I have a very direct communication style.
@Fabby awwww. That’s bad.
@Fabby HR people can’t handle that >.<
19:17
@Stephie Well, 2 weeks ago I came in #2 but alas...
... no silver medals during job interviews.
@Stephie :D It was indeed the last interview and HR was present.
@Fabby unless #1 doesn’t take the offer...
@Stephie I've had something better once:
#1 never showed up and took a better job somewhere else...
(and I was called: can you start tomorrow?)
Gotta run - class is over and my battery is running low. I’ll be back later.
19:34
TTY L8R!

1 hour later…
20:43
@Fabby no?
I was desperate at the time and ended up working htere for 9 months instead of the original 6 months...
So I said "Yes!"
(found out later that it was a tie and one of the managers liked me more and the other one the other one...
Sounds normal.
There’s often some kind of “deal” going on, if only a “you pick this one, I’ll pick the next”.
We had a similar scenario recently in one of our neighboring teams. And substitute for the product owner (leaving by the end of the year) got hired, started the job and left after only two weeks.
@Stephie Oh my!!!
or he was betting on two jobs at the same time, or wasn't capable of doing the job though he thought he did... (or she)
21:02
No idea. Just talked to the (understandably frustrated) PO.
21:12
Yeah, I can imagine...
hey guys, is this a cooking channel ?
@Gardezi chat, yes.
Welcome!
I'm thinking of making a Thanksgiving dinner for my girlfriend parent but I'm not a good cook so could you guys give me some advice
@Gardezi Forget about this year, start cooking all next year and try out all kinds of cool recipes for next year's Thanksgiving.
For this year, go get some good gourmet stuff that you just have to heat up and say it was you who cooked it all.
lol I was also thinking the same thing :D
21:20
@Gardezi pro tip: what's dad's favourite liquor???
@Gardezi (or beer / wine / tea / whatever)
@Fabby well he loves to drink Ketel One Vodka
Buy one of those bottles, slowly heat a cup of that stuff in a pan holding a candle lighter above it and flame it.
keep gently boiling until all smell of alcohol is gone
add double the amount of thick cream, pepper, nutmeg and just a whiff of salt.
And make sure you have nothing flammable over that pot!
21:26
@Gardezi boil it down until it thickens use that as gravy and call it "Daddy's gravy"
What stephie said and: turn off the extractor!
(Aka range hood)
huh? Googling that! Ah!
the venting thing over the stove.
@Gardezi That's all the tips for this year.
lol ok
21:29
@Gardezi anything you can do well?
@Gardezi start slow and everyone will be impressed by the vodka gravy!
@s
@Stephie cooking is not my cup of tea. I tried it a lot of time but every time I did I ended up creating a mess.
@Stephie : Fabby's cooking system to the rescue!
Then, I second @Fabby’s suggestion of “don’t”.
:D ;-)
21:34
lol okk
@Gardezi There's very good takeout in the US: spend some extra money and just make the gravy...
everyone will be impressed!
You still have a month to master a dessert or side dish for Christmas (if the family celebrates it).
(no one will know except 2 random strangers on the Internet)
@Fabby gonna go with your suggestion and lets see what happens
Please come back and tell us how it went!
@Gardezi (bring pics as we're not getting any rep out of this)
21:36
@Stephie yeah I need to master a dish
sure thing.
lets just hope that everything goes fine :D
@Gardezi for how many people are you hosting?
well it's just for my girlfriend and her and my parent
Erm... would your mom be likely to say something like “Gee, @Gardezi, I always thought you were useless in the kitchen!”?
lol I hope not.
but she does end up saying stuff like this
thats why I was asking for some help :D
LOL, moms...so either brief her or be honest about the takeout. It’s like taking them out to a restaurant, just at home.
How important is a turkey for you and do you / your guests eat pork?
21:47
With very special gravy like they've never had before!
@Fabby exactly!
turkey is important. Nobody eats pork. I'm going to talk with my girlfriend to help me out
Dang. So no precooked ham...
lol no
she does know how good I'm in cooking :D. So even if I don't ask her she will end up helping me out I think :P
Awwwww, sweet!
Thanksgiving is tomorrow, right? Is the party also tomorrow or a bit later?
Just remember that a frozen turkey needs a long time to defrost - or blocks your bathtub.
21:54
yeah, it's tomorrow. I was thinking of making something myself rather then getting some help from her but well have to go with @Fabby advice, will start cooking all next year and try out all kinds of recipes for next year's Thanksgiving.
@ste
@Stephie didn't know about the defrosting. Thanks for the heads up
Search on Seasoned Advice, I suppose we have a few Q/As on the topic.
And don’t use warm water!
4
Q: What are the options for thawing a frozen turkey?

Andres Jaan TackI'm aware of a few methods (many days in the refrigerator, hours under cold water, etc.) for thawing a whole turkey before cooking it. However, I don't know how these methods balance against each other for, Speed (do we have days or hours to thaw this turkey?), Safety (something about bacterial...

@Gardezi enjoy your party and good luck!
G’night, y’all!
@Stephie thanks for all the help
@Gardezi you are welcome!
22:10
And another happy customer!
0:-)

1 hour later…
23:11
to all of our American Brethren/sistern before I go to sleep:
Happy Thanksgiving!
