@Scimonster @MonicaCellio I'm cool with leaving out the wars one if y'all are.
13:58
@IsaacMoses Well, it's now the lowest voted one anyways...
(messing with metrics again ;))
@Scimonster I'm more persuaded by your argument than by the numbers :)
@IsaacMoses Just mentioning, so that even if we are going by votes (as was originally planned) it's the bottom.
@Scimonster On a project with this small a team (thus far), adhering to process is much less productive than achieving consensus for making editorial decisions.
@IsaacMoses I agree, but i was just mentioning.
@Scimonster 'sall good
14:13
@IsaacMoses I added a post with some formatting guidelines, with a placeholder near the top where you can drop in some wordcount guidelines.
@MonicaCellio Thanks!
@IsaacMoses I thought about asking for a heading, some text that would go after "Day N" that unifies the theme of the included questions, but I ended up not doing it. Feel free to add that if you think it helpful.
Not having it in the submissions doesn't preclude doing it, of course.
@IsaacMoses I'm ok with that. It's a cool question, but I don't see another that we should drop more. (Also yeah, consensus over strict process for this.)
@MonicaCellio I'll edit that post tonight with length guidance and some language promoting heavier editing and footnoting toward accessibility, then write a call for submissions.
@IsaacMoses sounds good. Thanks!
@MonicaCellio I'm of two minds on that. A little hint on how they fit together could be nice to have. OTOH, making the reader do that work could be an engaging exercise. 8 items on a TOC (which unified titles would enable) sounds clearer than 16. OTOH, the question titles may be more attractive than whatever unifying titles we could come up with, which may be general and bland, though we could make an effort to punch them up if that seems appropriate.
14:25
@IsaacMoses I would prefer 8 titles. "Punching them up" is a good idea.
If we stick to our two-page format we might not need a TOC -- after the frontmatter it's 8 sheets of paper, and if we give them "Day N" headers it's really easy to navigate. I'm not saying we shouldn't have a TOC (it might still be nice), but of the publications we've done so far, this is the one where we could skip it if we wanted.
14:42
@MonicaCellio Good point! Along those lines, maybe we should try to format each leaf so that it can stand alone as much as possible, e.g. with publication title at the top and "see [here](example.com) for credits, more, etc." at the bottom.
... so that people can print up and distribute individual leaves per day if they want. We could even release 8 individual PDFs along with the big one.
... Should we ask Jin for a little fancy graphical help? (e.g. twisting our logo into a Chanukiya)
15:03
@IsaacMoses If you manage to get him, can you mention this too?

Q: Why were we left with boring 404 and error pages?

ScimonsterThere were so many great ideas proposed here. How come none got implemented? My personal favorites are these for error and 404.

@Scimonster You can ping him yourself by responding to one of his posts on Mi Yodeya Meta. I'm not committed to asking for Chanuka help, but if we do, I think it'd be impolitic to ask for something else simultaneously.
@IsaacMoses Ah, i found a post of his to comment on.
15:20
@IsaacMoses oh that's a cool idea. :-) I know the design team is pretty overloaded, but he might be willing to do this smaller thing on the side.
@MonicaCellio I request that you make the call[s] (decision and, if appropriate, request), given your inside knowledge and liaison role.
15:34
@IsaacMoses will do. Most of the SE team is at a meet-up this week and seems to be keeping a hectic schedule there, so I will wait until early next week and then drop him a note to ask. (And I'm going to pin this as a reminder to myself to do so.)
@MonicaCellio Great. Thanks.
