1:20 PM
hey everyone!

Hey!
</meeting>

1:39 PM
I have no motivation to work at the moment

Neither do I....
One of my colleagues keeps changing the spec for a feature I'm working on and my boss asked me today "why is this taking so long"
have it done in 2 days etc
all the while juggling another project I shouldn't even be consulting on and having technical issues with VSO

I have no motivation at the moment
And a headache

1:55 PM
BTW.Coffee

2:15 PM
Don't know how I thought CS:GO was going to help that though

So the table name where the columns start with ci_ is HV_CLINICAL_INPUT. Makes perfect sense.
What the wat... ' - - ' is inserted in one of the fields.

@Phrancis formatting with an empty value ?
@skiwi gaming rarely help with motivation or headache... Don't know what you were thinking either. For your defence you're not motivated and you have headache I don't think you're at the peak for taking good decisions :P

@Marc-Andre Haha

2:31 PM
@Marc-Andre Precisely

Hey people, it's been a while!
How's progress going?

@Lokkij Hey!
@Lokkij Progress has been going really well with the web client. We're actually at the point where we can start to go back into game design, art & stuff now
We deployed a release a few days ago, and got a server running it at play.cardshifter.com
(server is dwarftowers.com)

Wow, awesome! :D
Tell me if you need more gameplay design input.

We do, the balance is kind of all over the place now for Mythos, I think too many cards have too many complicated effects
It's really hard to keep track of what is actually happening on the board

Right, that's a very common problem in custom-designed cards/CCGs.
I'll look what I can do; where can I put any recommended changes?
Haha I love the medieval art :P

2:39 PM
Hmm hold on
Oh yeah, a lot of the pictures are not loading correctly right now (unless someone else fixed it)

Wow, the interface is already way nicer than it was when we were using the Java client
2

@Lokkij Yeah, it's a shame we didn't go that route sooner, turns out developing with the web client is far easier and more flexible

And there's the added benefit of it not being Java
:D

By the way, I've been playing another CCG (kind of): Duelyst. It looks amazing, the gameplay is very fun (the grid adds a lot of depth), games aren't too long (5 to 15 minutes max). They're giving beta keys to anyone who asks nicely in the forums if you're interested. You can even play it in your browser if you want to! :D

Well, there's that I guess. JavaScript is easier and quicker to develop

2:46 PM
@Phrancis it was a joke, :p

@Phrancis Alright, I'll play some and post my findings.

What's a CCG?

Collectible Card Game

@Lokkij Looks interesting

Basically the same as TCG (Trading Card Game)

2:47 PM
But then without trading but with collecting :D
@Lokkij You don't happen to have keys to giveaway?

@Lokkij If you wanted to, by the way, you'd be more than welcome to branch and work on the gameplay yourself

@skiwi Not currently (I already requested four so I'm kind of hesitant to ask for even more) but you can post here or send the guy mentioned in the post a PM to get two keys: forums.duelyst.com/t/the-key-request-mega-thread-ask-here/2868
They respond very quickly, I got mine within two hours

Hm. We have neither trading nor collecting.

@Lokkij That's long :( :P

A collectible element can add a lot to the game, even though at first glance it greatly restricts players.
Extra credits have made three videos about the advantages and pitfalls of a collectible element:
In short: it's a very good way to gradually introduce new players to all the mechanics and cards without overwhelming them, and players' decks are really their creation.

2:54 PM
@Phrancis We have MCG (Modded Card Game) or we could find something else too
2

I'm actually curious what forum software they use, or maybe in-house, seems to be not too bad

Yeah it's pretty good

@Lokkij Hmmmm we do have an issue to where the game is not simple to just pick up and play, but I don't really know how we could improve it...
I'd hate to make new players have to RTFM before they can understand how it works. I think some GUI improvements will help though.

@Lokkij Hmm, I only had that feling when the internet was not really around yet :P
Physical YGO cards mainly as I played that game

@Phrancis Yep, and an interactive tutorial + starter decks can help as well
Ah, only in part three they actually talk about the advantages I was talking about: youtube.com/watch?v=yGkpoYxSep8

3:02 PM
Starter decks I like and think we should do, but the problem with interactive tutorials is that we would need a different one for each mod...

Hmm, right. That's a problem.

So we need moddable tutorials? ^

Now, each mod we have in general is quite simpler than traditional TCGs/CCGs, which works in our favor at least on that aspect
So perhaps a tutorial on how to use the GUI would be sufficient, the rest could be discovered by playing the mods or RTFM or whatever

A good UI doesn't need a tutorial.
3

Damn, that's so true

3:07 PM
I'm back for a few minutes and a third of my messages is already on the star board. :P

> CodeReview.StackExchange

Hmm?

Most of us are from CodeReview
It's almost a rite of passage to run out of stars before the day is ended

Hahaha, I was not aware of that

in The 2nd Monitor we actually have a meme for when we want to apply a star but are out of stars for that day
it's "TS" - Theoretical star.
Then, when someone stars it for you (Or you star it yourself because you got your stars back), you say RSA.
Real star applied.

3:13 PM
Hah nice
I didn't even know it's possible to run out of stars :P

It is a very sad moment when you do :(

Is it already known that the effect text for most 'choose one at random' cards is almost unreadable?
Also, I would suggest moving the timing of effects to the front ('At the start of your turn, <effect>' instead of '<effect> at the start of your turn') and indicate continuous effects in the text as well ('as long as ~ is on the battlefield, <effect>')
Oh and if anyone makes a Duelyst account, be sure to add me (Lokkij)

@Lokkij good thinking, could you put in an issue about the effect text improvements?

Sure!
Which tags should it have?

Um good question. Just put

3:28 PM
Alright

Or groovy effect rather

we just had an evacuation practice in case we have a fire. My experience is : I will die if anything ever happen. We were stuck on our floor for 5 minutes with no chances to exit.

> There are a few areas in which the readability of the effect text can be improved:

- `Choose at random` cards currently list all their possibilities (including duplicates) in plain text which isn't readable at all if there are more than two very simple options. Perhaps the options can be put into a bullet list somehow to improve this.
- The timing of effects is currently displayed after the effect itself (`[effect] at the start of your turn`). To match TCG conventions and improve readabili
> @Etrisa That card seems a bit weird; why is it not just a spell? Its functionality is that of a spell, not of an enchantment.

Weird bug

> I also just discovered cards with multiple abilities (for example, GAIA from Mythos) need to end their sentences with periods.

4:17 PM
that game looks incredible

4:56 PM
@Lokkij Got a beta key now :)

:D

@Marc-Andre Uh, that's not really promising

I know...

I even got two beta codes I just realisze

<lunch>

4:59 PM
@Lokkij Was there a PC client already?

There's both a desktop client and an in-browser client.

Trying to find the desktop client
@Lokkij Any clue where to find it? ^

Is it stable enough to play?

Yep! After playing a while you might encounter a bug (black menu screen, disappearing card images; you'll know) but it's pretty stable.
It almost never crashes when in a game.

5:04 PM
sounds nice
wow really clean UI there

The art and sound design is really good

Hi @Lokkij! (and others)

Hey! :D

5:20 PM
@Phrancis GUI improvements would definitely help with that. Never underestimate the importance of animations and stuff.
@Lokkij yup, I've also thought of that.

I kinda dislike the art style of Duelyst though :P

@Marc-Andre I hope you'll have another practice soon. Fire drills should be serious stuff.

5:35 PM
@SimonForsberg we have a practice once or twice a year, and since I'm there not once it satisfy the objectives we have

@Marc-Andre sounds like you have a fire drill because you have to have one, not because you are trying to prepare in case of fire.

@SimonForsberg Because we do need to have one. For a building our size it's a legal obligation (I think). We have to evacuate everyone under 10 min I think. It's just people are too relaxed and does not take the drill seriously. People going back for their cafe and non-sens like that.

I can imagine

Relaxed people is actually a good thing in fire alarms
As long as they don't waste time

@skiwi Oh man really? I love it!

> When i playtested there where no spells in the game, just enchantments so i made this as an enchant but yes, it can be a spell.

7:19 PM
Has everyone seen this video? Adding a collectible component brings a whole host of challenges with it, but it solves a bunch of other problems, so I feel like we should at least consider it:

7:57 PM
libGDX 1.7.0 released http://ift.tt/1KHw189

8:10 PM
ugh another version of robovm
i hope the current one works on iOS 9 like it was supposed to
man you can do some interesting stuff with shaders:
i followed the tutorial and did one of the challenges in it:

Playing around with shaders I see

trying to learn em

8:32 PM
@Lokkij I did watch some of their videos before, I they were really well made

9:08 PM
Ugh. Just had a terrible afternoon. Car broke down ln the highway when I was running an errand on lunch :|
