hey

3:30 AM
hey @bruglesco
How was work?
It's so hot here, still 84 F / 29 C and it's almost midnight. 72% humidity... :(

@Phrancis Crazy busy
@Phrancis Super hot here too. I think we were in the 90's with 65% humidity

I guess summer's finally hit us

3:45 AM
I guess
I look forward to losing a lot of water weight

I didn't think summer ever got that hot/humid nearer to the East coast, though I guess you're not that close

Yeah Im not much further east than you
In fact Im curious - let me consult the latitudes

My only memory of PA was getting stuck waiting for like 6-7 hours in Harrisburg because my English was not good enough, or the Greyhound driver wasn't clear enough, and I missed my bus, the first time I came to the USA. So naturally (but not logically), I don't think much of it

aww that sux

Harrisburg doesn't look like a fun place, all the buildings I saw looked old and decrepit

3:49 AM
Pgh has a latitude of 40.44 and Louisville is 38.33

And longitude?

Oh I was just looking east west

Latitude is North/South

haha yup

Pittsburgh is 40.4406° N, 79.9959° W

3:51 AM
I need to stop embarrassing myself around here

Louisville 38.2527° N, 85.7585° W

-85.76
on another note Ive never been to Harrisburg nor do I have any desire

I'm guessing PA is probably not close enough to the ocean for it to make much of a difference
Yeah I'd recommend to avoid it

Well eastern PA is
Its a wide state

Oh, right. It's big enough to have 2 hockey teams :D

3:54 AM
and 2 football teams
and 2 baseball teams

In other news, correlation == causation
It just dawned on me that KY has no professional football or basketball team (and of course no hockey either, which I already knew)

Anyway we get hot and humid here
So what do you do when a user gets defensive about an answer you gave?

Try to talk to them. If that doesn't work, try to ignore them. If that still doesn't work, delete your answer and move on
That's for me anyways
Others are more patient. 200_success especially, I've seen very long comment threads
To me when it starts to be like arguing with people on Facebook, I just start ignoring them
They can downvote if they have enough rep. They can flag for moderator attention if need be.

Well I would like to take the patient approach. I guess what I am looking for are tools and techniques for getting through to people in that situation.

Can you link me to your specific case, so I can take a look?

4:01 AM
sure. Its not that serious but here:

A: Simple postfix calculator app

bruglescoDisclaimer: I'm not familiar with Qt With that in mind I still have some points I can mention. My worry is that this approach may be inefficient, given how many variables a State has and how long a user's input could potentially be. Granted, most of the State members are only bytes, bu...

In fairness there were some miscommunications
Also she? was defensive right out the gate.

Yeah. I'd just leave it as is unless they ask more questions, IMHO

Yeah - just wondering if there was a better way for me to have gone about it.

I'd probably try to avoid going too deep into micro-optimizations, like the prefix/postfix... I can see you are right, but with how powerful computers are now, a few bits of data will barely make a difference either way
But yeah, I think your comment replies are polite, straightforward, and the user may just have an axe to grind

She is just sensitive (See her first unsolicited comment on the original question)

4:31 AM
Ah, neighbors fun. I'm gonna talk to a neighbor when he's sober enough, his girlfriend came outside crying when I was having a smoke. He showed up to pick her up from work, clearly inebriated, with a freaking drink in his hand...
(she works in a restaurant)
Drove dangerously for obvious reasons, and then they had a screaming bout about it when they got to their home
Probably going to be tomorrow, he's blacked out now...

3 hours later…
7:44 AM
@Phrancis Ah right, how about this one instead?

1 hour later…
9:11 AM
@SimonForsberg Very talented vocalist... The song didn't do anything for me, it's just an overt burst of emotions without much creativity, it's a 4-chord song

3 hours later…
1:09 PM
@Phrancis My girlfriend love to sing Celine Dion with a lot of enthusiasm. I can't handle it.

@SimonForsberg That's an old opera favorite for most people. Quite a famous aria. I like other arias better :)
@Phrancis Simpler is sometimes better. There's a reason more chords means more likely to sound like a cacophony.
Also, monking!

1:39 PM
@Hosch250 This little young woman is pretty freaking amazing though.

@SimonForsberg Not saying she isn't (I haven't seen it, I don't watch YT at work). I'm just saying I like other arias better (especially Verdi and Rossini arias).
Nothing about the artist, more about the composer :)

2 hours later…
3:34 PM
@Hosch250 @Marc-Andre @Phrancis Is there any way to tell the difference between a U.S. phone number and a Canadian phone number?
According to wikipedia, both have +1

Good question to which I don't know the answer

@SimonForsberg Area code usually works.
Except in a few places by the border, maybe.

@Hosch250 Is there any list of those?

Lots.
Apparently Canada is now a very large state, LOL.

^ Ask Mug what he thinks of Canada being America's largest state.

3:44 PM
A state so large it has sub-states called provinces :P

hey

you

1 hour later…
5:22 PM
Monking!

Gnomking @Phrancis

5:39 PM
Gnome-king?

4 hours later…
9:17 PM
Monking? Is that all we have to say today?

I tried to set someone up for "Hey you guys" Goonies reference, but nobody took it up.

Hmm

Better luck next time @IvenBach
I guess most people, like me, are mostly focused on other things in life instead of Cardshifter, HotS, or other things.
TTGTB

9:32 PM
We're kind of busy today, I keep getting interrupted with phone calls
Good night @SimonForsberg!
