@Phrancis Hosch has experience with F# as I recall.
I'm failing along with getting my VSTO add-in to make it easy to solve for systems of linear equations.
Pretty sure putting everything in the code behind is #DoingItWrong.
1) Make it work *Done*
2) Make it right
3) Make it fast

@IvenBach I understand almost every word in that sentence, but the order you put it in confuses me o.o
(long for "what the heck is that")

x + 2y and 2x + y correspond to the coefficients {1,2; 2,1}.

Ah OK, I see. I don't maths very well X)

By taking the inverse of the coefficient matrix and multiplying it by the answer vector you can solve systems of linear equations.
It's typically simple to do in Excel. I'm forcing myself to learn by making it part of my add-in.
I got it to work as a Form, but all the logic is in the code behind.

@IvenBach So the form only contains the code for the GUI, and the rest of the logic is in a separate module?

I think the best model for this is Model View Presenter (MVP) but I don't know how to write it using that pattern.

@SimonForsberg Well I hope things slow down for you a little soon. I hope all this hard work is paying off.
@IvenBach I could be way off because I still haven't gotten around to learning C# yet
But I thought that the code behind is exactly where you would want your logic
shouldn't the 'business logic' be in the code behind and the form just covers the presentation logic?
oh hey - guess you'll find out

Q: VSTO add-in for Excel to solve systems of linear equations

IvenBachThis code is part of a VSTO add-in for Excel. As the title states it solves systems of linear equations by allowing the user to select the appropriate ranges. The code works and covers most issues I could think of. The form is displayed by a button click from the ribbon. The selection of ranges i...

I’d like an answer but won’t hold my breath for it.
Everything I’ve understood for a view/form is is just presents a UI to enter info into. Nothing is stored in the UI though as it gets passed to some model. The theory of it I understand. Actually doing it is where I’m stuck.
Business logic is the Model, I think. If @SimonForsberg or anyone more experienced in this could correct I’d appreciate it.
Sleep time and worrying about it tomorrow.

@bruglesco Re-thinking the title the mention of VSTO may be off putting to some that could answer it. ~shrug~ let it be for a bit and if nobody bites then change the title.

hey
@Feeds loool

It's a double edged sword.

@IvenBach I see what you did there

Huh?
Oh, LAFF! I didn't even mean it that way but hooray for double entendres.

6:21 PM
@IvenBach I guess I missed what you were doing. I thought the code behind was your Model. I definately don't know enough C# to be helpful. Nvm and good luck.

6:35 PM
That’s the code behind for the form itself.
I’m not going to give up until I understand how to do it right.

6:54 PM
@IvenBach Oh wow I thought you did it on purpose

7:37 PM
I have a way with #Words. It’s usually on the poor side unfortunately.
