@Jolenealaska Worth a try in any case, if you're comfortable with that. I'll probably have some time at around 10pm UK time today, and much more flexibly in the next few days

Realized that focaccia is quickly becoming my go to solution for "I have these veggies that need using". Today I am making a potato/garlic/onion one.

@LSchoon I think that was planned to be a ping by @Jolenealaska...
I guess my next kitchen project will be an outdoor kitchen. I simply refused to cook inside today. Too hot by far!
@Ash see above...
I finally realize what my great gran really meant when she was talking about her “summer kitchen back home”. With “back home” = Vojvodina in Serbia.
We currently have a very hot and dry summer, my lawn looks like a desert and the forest is turning brown.
Not unlike what my great gran would have been used to, summer-wise.
Impromptu solution: dragged my instant pot outside, did all the chopping and such under the wisteria-covered pergola. A bit like camping at home.
Now, where would I find a good gas grill...?

Oh that sounds lovely.

7:25 PM
Need to find some Instant Pot summer recipes.

8:08 PM
@Stephie I think you're right. @Jolenealaska, I'm here now.
@Stephie Also, do you like the Instant Pot? I've read some conflicting opinions...

My NPO is turning into part soup kitchen. 4 big instant pots are on my Amazon wish list.
They are the key to my successful weight loss.

8:29 PM
@Ash That's a good one. Along with frittata.

@LSchoon I never thought I’d like it as much as I do now. It was a bit of an impulse buy, inspired partly because Jolenealaska and rumtscho praised theirs, partly by my old pressure cooker being somewhat incompatible with my stove (nearly impossible to get the heat setting just right) and needing new gaskets etc. The last bit was a super saver deal on Amazon just when I had some birthday money left. So I got one. Didn’t regret it for one second.
And I am not a “gadget for this, gadget for that” cook.

ME EITHER! At all. I can't praise the Instant Pot enough. Funny thing that.

I made room for the Instant Pot in my pot cupboard (the space where the old pressure cooker made room), but most of the time it simply lives on my counter, next to the stove.

9:12 PM
Do either of you use it for anything besides pressure cooking?

I'm here @LSchoon. Losing patience with myself and my situation.
Bear with me?

Sure, just checking in

@LSchoon I use it instead of my oven all summer.

For baking?

F*cking climate change.

9:17 PM
Does that work? :o

Wild.

Not bread, but other stuff.
Cheesecake for one.

@LSchoon sure. Although pressure cooking + the built in timer function is super handy. Eggs, on a hectic morning are just a breeze. But also slow cooking stuff like Confiture de Lait / Dulce de Leche or just a batch of mostly hands-off apple butter.

user15026
I have seen pressure cooker bread recipes!

9:21 PM
Oh, sorry, it's slow cooker bread

user15026
but the instant pot can be a slow cooker

Guess I'll add another thing to my wishlist

@Ash interesting.... Will probably give it a try and then see whether I can get it to work with a sourdough / LM.

user15026
Let me know how it goes!

I really like Cooking on a Bootstrap, I've had good success with the ones I've tried

@Ash holy moly, that’s an insane amount of yeast’

user15026
I'm trying to figure out how much I use in my foccacia but i measure it in spoons

@Stephie It does only get a 20 minute rise. Plus 7g I think is the weight in a single sachet, which saves on buying a decent scale I guess?

@LSchoon I saw that - but that percentage is very high nonetheless.

9:42 PM
Not debating that! I'm assuming the recipe was developed by starting out with as much dough as would fit in the cooker and an entire sachet of yeast, then scaled down the proofing time as needed

My time with LSchoon was educational, vindicating, and ultimately successful. YAY!
The website should be up again tomorrow.
