Jay
5:07 PM
Woah just realized something
Literal translation for the chinese word for computer means "electronic brain"

oh yeah?

Jay
just thought it was neato lol

seems apropos

Jay
it is but still is cool
chicken parm sandwich and 12 bean soup for lunch
the 12 bean soup is apparently vegan
its not bad. pretty decently flavored
but a tiny bit flat without the meaty stock to use as soup base

Bean soup (all kinds) can be really good.
I'm trying now to use Dragon, my headset, audio from my TV, and my television as a monitor. wish me luck

Jay
5:15 PM
Good luck
just a thing to note, HDMI is both audio and video cable, so if audio doesnt automatically go to headset, you might need to tweak the settings. But in general it should work without any tweaking

Pain in my ass.
Damn Bluetooth.
Alright. Take 2
brb, going to reboot

5:49 PM
@FaheemMitha Hi!
@Jay Very nice.
@Jolenealaska So still no luck with the separate desktop screens?

@Jay 12 bean soup? Some Chinese thing?

@FaheemMitha It's very traditional American.

@Cerberus I'm actually very close to having it just right. I've given up on separate screens, as it turns out it's better to readjust my thinking on that score.
My only problem now is bringing my Bluetooth headset on board as a microphone for Dragon.
that problem is multifold.
Part of the problem is that I have two identical headsets. There doesn't seem to be any way within Windows to tell the computer to talk to one headset and ignore the other.
I think my best option is to delete in Windows all mention of my headsets, and start over with one headset only.

@Jolenealaska no? Usually there is a pairing process where you choose the device with which you pair

6:02 PM
@rumtscho yes, and the computer has paired with both of them in the past.
they have no separate identity. The model is just listed twice in Control Panel and in Bluetooth control.

but there is no way to assign an "identity" to each?

not that I can find

@Jolenealaska that sounds quite dumb, although not completely surprising.

Yes, it's very dumb. And quite typical of me to have such a convoluted fucking problem.
but, the good news is, I can see a movie playing, chat, and a Word window all at the same time on my TV. It took me a while, but I also get audio from the movie playing from the television.

@Jolenealaska Wise.
In the long term, you could also solve that issue by buying a cheap mini-computer to use with the second screen.

6:08 PM
Yes, a lot of my issues are nothing but money and can be solved quite simply with a little money.
But, I have no money.

Same here.

So, I'm working with what I've got.

Although I've picked up tutoring again, which is great with respect to pay and flexibility.
An extra €50 in an hour and a half is nice.

that's kind of how I feel about dog training.
My students have more legs.
What ages are your students?

Hehe.
I'm only tutoring one kid now, she's 11 and has just entered high school.
Which normally starts at 12.
She is very smart, but sloppy and lazy.

6:11 PM
@Cerberus yes, sounds good. What is your "standard" job? Or are you still a student?

I do lots of stuff.

Fun age (11 going on 42)

I also teach kids Latin and Greek and other stuff at an institute.
@Jolenealaska Going on 12?

@Cerberus Banner Day! I think I just exposed Cerby to an idiom. :)
11 going on 25 / 5 going on 20 .... same thing. It means precocious.

Um haha.
I see, never heard that expression before.

6:16 PM
I'm tired of talking into this microphone, so BRB after I get my Bluetooth microphone working.

6:32 PM
Good luck.

7:02 PM
Dammit!!
I can't get it to pair.
I have deleted the "others", but it won't recognize this one.
Tping this is making my blood boil.
I get here:
I double click on it....
then the "connect" screen disappears before I can click connect.

Weird!

The bluetooth dongle and the headset are both flashing blue.

I've never done this.
Reboot?

I have...over and over
I'm losing my mind over this. Dammit! I've got shit to do.
brb

Ugh!
I hear bluetooth headsets are often a pain in the head.
Have you tried re-pairing it?

"Volunteers must be prepared for physical activity, including lifting, bending, shoveling, and carrying heavy loads."
Sounds like hard work.

Jay
I rather get my workout through this method rather than going to the gym

Fair enough. Just don't give yourself a hernia. A gym is a controlled environment.

@Cerberus yes,yes and yes. I give up.
I'm deleting this one and trying the other if it doesn't work NOW. Typing with one hand (my non-dominant) is a royal pain in the ass.
Now windows seems to be paired, but Dragon doesn't see it. AARRGGHH
That's it, there it is.
But Dragon won't see it.

8:27 PM
Now Dragon works just fine with the Yeti Blue microphone, but I can't stand to be tied to the chair like this. That's the whole reason I set up the television, so I could walk away.

9:01 PM
@ElendilTheTall haha, I came across a link of what your future job should look like!
@Jolenealaska it seems that there is some kind of mess with Win 7 and Bluetooth drivers. Have you seen this one?
2
Q: Possible to use a bluetooth headset for phones with Windows 7?

peleslI'm relatively new to the Bluetooth mess. I don't understand why there should be any reason that I cannot use a Bluetooth headset designed for a phone (I have a Motorola HX550) on a PC to, say, make a Skype call. I'm on Windows 7 x64. Using what I have "lying around" (a "Silicon Wave" Bluetooth...

that isn't the problem exactly, because the headset(s) worked just fine until I installed the video card.
But, it does almost talk me into reinstalling the Bluetooth drivers.
I am just getting incredibly frustrated with the whole mess.
Every time it seems like I've gotten something solved, another problem appears.
I haven't gotten any work done because I don't have any working tools.
I deleted three expletives from the last comment.

I know the feeling :(
As Jerome K Jerome says, there are two things you can do with a bike. You can either ride it, or tinker with it.

9:16 PM
or throw the damn thing into the Grand Canyon

Hehe.
Sounds like a very annoying problem!
I remember trying to pair my phone to my computer through Bluetooth. It was Hell.
One of the worst things was that it didn't crush my hope immediately: it kept sometimes-working.

@Jolenealaska certainly not! The Grand Canyon is so protected, you have take your own shit out with you when you leave. Not "shit" as in "stuff", "shit" as in "excrements".

And sometimes-working is worse than nothing.

@Cerberus By itself it wouldn't be any big deal, but this is like the 10th time I thought I had a solution only to have something else (seemingly unrelated) rear its ugly head.

Waaaah.

9:19 PM
@Cerberus yes! "Almost Working" is ridiculously tantalizing.

I was just reminded of this terrifying awful TV show called "7th Heaven". Has anyone ever watched it?

Hehe almost-working is possibly even worse than sometimes-working...
@FaheemMitha I have not.

The name alone would scare me off. I've heard of it, I've never watched a second of it.

@FaheemMitha No. I remember something else which had the word "heaven" and was awful, maybe it's not a literal translation? The one I'm thinking of had a WWF star in it.

@Jolenealaska It's flabbergastingly, terrifyingly awful.

9:21 PM
Not the same after all.

I have watched very little television in my adult life. I usually have better things to do than watch bad television.
I haven't even watched much good television.

@rumtscho It's a "family" TV show that originally ran in the 90s, I think. It was on the WB. And even survived the WB for a year.
Well, 7th Heaven was something else.
Ok, nobody has heard of it. Fair enough.

> This weekly television series follows the Camden family as the minister father and stay-at-home mother deal with the drama of having seven children, ranging from toddlers to adults with families of their own. The friends, neighbors, and love interests of the various members of the family weigh heavily on the plot of the series

It's worse than it sounds. Much worse.

@rumtscho I hadn't even heard of that one.

9:22 PM
Has the same IMDB rating as the WWF star one.

@rumtscho Is that relevant? :-)
Sorry, didn't mean to interrupt.
"We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming."
Anyway, I bet that show was big in the Bible Belt. I mean, someone must have been watching it. It was big in its day.

@Jolenealaska I actually remember that I liked it. But I was 10 back then, and did not have much to compare it to.
@FaheemMitha It helps me gauge the terribleness you're describing.

@rumtscho Liked what?

when I was a kid I liked Little House on the Prairie :)

There are clips on Youtube if you are brave enough. Mostly by people making fun of it.

9:24 PM
@FaheemMitha the show I have seen. Not the one you mentioned, because I haven't heard of that one.

@Jolenealaska Is that relevant? :-)

in fact, I still do.
Relevant to what? it's chat for chrissake

@Jolenealaska Oh, sorry. I thought it was related to what I was saying.
I was just remembering how much I hated that show. Never mind.

Only in the sense that we were talking about old shows popular in the Bible Belt

@Jolenealaska Oh, I see.

9:26 PM
if we go back further we come up with a topic of conversation involving Bluetooth headsets.
Before that we were talking about employment opportunities for two of our regulars.

@Jolenealaska Yes, that's an oldie but a goodie.
I actually tend not to hate TV shows or films in general. I don't feel strongly enough about them. But that one was an exception.
I mean, I don't even dislike "Walker Texas Ranger", or those terrible fake wrestling shows. Or things with Paris Hilton in them.

I don't often watch things long enough to develop strong negative feelings. If I don't like it at first, I turn it off.

@Jolenealaska I didn't watch 7th Heaven much either. But enough, apparently.

Every once in a while I will watch something for a while in kind of a paralyzed, aghast horror

For the record, I watched little tv growing up. So in the US as an adult, I didn't have much builtup resistance. So I watched quite a lot of TV from around the late 90s through to about 2007.
say 1997/1998 - 2007.
Not much before or since.

9:32 PM
Once I caught a show about some kid that did beauty pageants a la JonBenet Ramsey.
except the kid was more like daytime talk show trash

What was the name?

shrug
the kid had some stupid nickname
like sweetie pie or boo-boo bear or something like that

I like this quote about SH. "Among my peers in high school it was considered an abomination and watched in mesmerized terror like the eldritch horror that it is. "
A random internet commentator, but clearly an enlightened person.
"abomination" pretty much sums it up.
SH == Seventh Heaven, just so we're clear.
I'd hate it if people thought I was saying nasty things about Sherlock Holmes.

Jay
9:48 PM
Erk, Im so goddamn awkward
Passed my manager's manager earlier and I was so derp
Nerves and all

Our derps are always magnified in our mind. It's part of the human condition.

That's one slang word I wasn't familiar with -> en.wiktionary.org/wiki/derp

Jay
I decided to take things in my hand and go to his office and have a chat with him
Im so glad i did that
He's always been very friendly and nice but that didnt change the nerves I felt around him
but after my chat with im today, I realize how "open" he is
Definitely need to chat with him more.

10:20 PM
@Jay so you did that just now?
