So has everyone seen that community moderator elections are ongoing?
Nominate away!
There are 3 spots - only 1 nomination so far. Let's see something like 5 nominations!

I nominate myself cuz
I'm awesome

@RebeccaChernoff How much busy work do mods do per day?

Posted by Jeff Atwood on May 17th, 2009

We believe deeply in community moderation. That’s why we appoint Pro Tempore Moderators and, ideally, democratically elected community moderators for every site in our network. But what do community moderators do? The short answer is, as little as possible!

From the very first version of Stack Overflow faq way back in mid-2008, our goal has always been to give power back to the community:

Stack Overflow is run by you! If you want to help us run Stack Overflow, you’ll need reputation first. Reputation is a (very) rough measurement of how much the Stack Overflow community trusts you. Reputation is never given, it is earned by convincing other Stack Overflow users that you know what you’re talking about.  …

Yeah, saw that, doesn't really mention it

@NickT That would be a good question for the existing pro tems.
Each site is a bit different.
You could ask them here if they frequent chat, or you could pose a meta question tagged
Also, if there are >3 nominations, I'll do a Town Hall Chat.

I think @Kortuk's here somewhat often

Q: 2011 Moderator Election - Town Hall Chat: 9pm UTC / 5pm EDT on the 27th

Rebecca ChernoffIn connection with the moderator elections, we will be holding a Town Hall Chat session with the candidates. This will be an opportunity for members of the community to pose questions to the candidates on the topic of moderation. Participation is completely voluntary. I am working with the can...

(though that's not really for stuff considering whether or not to nominate since that'll be after the nomination phase is over)
If you have questions, feel free to do a meta question. Questions posed to the nominees are cool also.

Are primaries if there are only > so many noms?

Yes. There will only be a primary if there are >10 nominations.

which would narrow it down to...

read the sidebar on the right of the election page
then click to the primary tab and read it again
then click to the election tab and read it again
q:

Ah, it does mention the 10, but not the end result of the primaries explicitly, or is that 10 as well

4:26 PM
The primaries will cut down from >10 to 10.
Most sites don't have a primary phase though.
I'd love to see that many people put themselves forward though!

A: What should we do with questions that could also be answered well by other sites?

Nick TNo. Electronics.SE is not for consumer electronics. It is for electronics design questions.

^ Make your voice heard, tell them to keep their questions to themselves

@NickT I used to write alot of answers, now I almost never do.
that is how much mod time it takes.
@NickT I try to drop by atleast once a day into chat. I am on the site multiple times a day.
@NickT I think they are asking a general question about the system. the other answer says to go to the other chat and ask if it would fit. It really needs to fit.
@RebeccaChernoff It may be time for them to depose the dictators.

6:06 PM
@Kortuk hm?

6:28 PM
What was that question way back when where it was moved between SO, Electronics, and Cross-validated or something like that?
where mods kept dumping it on another site

@Kortuk are you going to nominate yourself? Don't want to push you into it if you're tired of it...
I'd like some "known good" applicants to vote for
There's one or two high-rep people that I don't want to be a mod

@W5VO me?

nonono.... I don't have anything against you

psh
I try my best to be polarizing, to no avail

I don't like the top 4 users (admins excluded)
well... really just the top one
@NickT See? I'm more polarizing

6:54 PM
Aww, I was hoping there'd be more than 1 nomination when I just looked at the election page. ):

Eh, I'm playing the wait-and-see game

I don't like that game. q:
That game makes me sweat. (:

7:16 PM
@NickT Me to

What are you waiting for? (:

To see if other people better than me nominate myself such as @NickT

You can only nominate yourself afaik

yep
I didn't mean it like i wrote it
What i meant was if more knowledgeable people such as nick nominate themselves then they deserve it more than me

> Nominations are not binding; nominees may withdraw at their discretion at any point during the nomination phase.
Note that it isn't a revolving door. If you nominate > withdraw, you can't then > nominate.

7:25 PM
resign after being elected or withdraw your nomination?

Some guy on UX complaining about my phrasing, figured we had to be extremely precise on SE nowadays

7:37 PM
s'all good. withdraw and resign are two totally separate things. I was typing without thinking.
Hate it when I do that. (;

8:48 PM
@RebeccaChernoff I will be nominating myself
@W5VO I plan to, but I have to take a moment and type it up.
@RebeccaChernoff get rid of the old moderators was my implication.
