@W5VO I bet right now that 4 more will sign up finishing at 7.
@W5VO I like the new avatar.
AFK one moment.
05:06
@Kortuk but you're missing me call BS

A: How do you Calibrate 32.768kHz crystal for PIC24 RTCC

Tony Stewart60Hz is <1e-10 synchronized and if you are lucky you can pick up 60Hz with a long wire antenna. Of course web sync to NTC. Xtal is a binary multiple of 2. But 60 Hz is not so least common denominator is most common way. Fraction N is another way. YOu can buy a 1e-6 or <1PPM TCXO for $25 ~$...

He complained that 17 people downvoted him unfairly
@Kortuk I used to have a job with a company overseeing the power grid... He doesn't know what he's talking about.
@W5VO Ohh, i did not have that job and I am one of the downvotes, he is just wrong.
no joke... it's like he's trolling the community
@W5VO Yes, I agree.
Well I was hoping the election would have at least one mildly passable candidate, you never get what you hope for :)
@Kortuk there's still time! You should encourage tony to sign up!
05:57
@W5VO Ha.
@Kortuk I take it you got home fine - did you have a good trip?
@W5VO getting my first picture out. I had a great trip though.
So, you can tell how often we killed the battery sitting somewhere and how hard we had to run the AC because we only got 42.6mpg, which I love being able to say!
(@W5VO cc)
@W5VO and those conversations are painful.
06:16
@Kortuk no kidding. It's like his head will explode if he's wrong
@W5VO And I have to decide what to do...
06:28
@Kortuk bedtime for me.
@W5VO Ha, see you in the morning.
@W5VO I have to write my comments on the election stuff and probably do a few other site things.
06:40
Local breweries in Portland are awesome
And there were some good ones in the Colorado/Wyoming area when I lived out there.
@jmort253 This I believe
My current favorite beer is from Colorado.
@jmort253 I have heard great things about portland, have not been there in 12 years
@jmort253 I would like to visit it.
@jmort253 This is what portland always makes me think of now
"portland is a city where young people go to retire."
someone is mod distracted!
Sorry
I was distracted... leaving comments on questions :)
@Kortuk Oh I saw that video that's hilarious
@jmort253 That is why I said mod distracted, no need to be sorry.
Portland definitely has a wierd subculture.
But that's okay... they say that if you look around the room and you don't see anyone who's wierd, it's because you're the wierdo
@jmort253 I am from Austin, TX. I have been told the two cities are almost the same in culture. That type of culture makes me comfortable.
06:54
@Kortuk - Portland and Austin?
@jmort253 Yes.
Interesting.
@jmort253 Austin is hippy dippy.
I've never been to Texas, so it's hard for me to really objectively have an opinion about it.
@jmort253 the rest of Texas is not, but I am from the great country of Texas.
06:55
lol
Any good beer in Texas?
@jmort253 Ha, yes, I have had a few since visiting back, but I moved out when I was 18
That was Maryland, for me. I moved at 17. But I lived in Delaware for awhile and one local brew was DogfishHead
Really great beer
They brewed it in this beach town I lived in.
On sunday, the only way to get beer in Delaware was to go to a bar and get a growler of DogfishHead
or drive to Maryland....
I never said earlier. My beers are from here.

A: The Great American Beer Festival Meetup of 2012

KortukAs a promotion for this site I am changing my gravitar to have a mug of beer in it. This is to give something users will notice on the site. My new gravitar will be: From two of my favorite beers: I am inviting others to join in this promotion method.

Which you should join us for.
@jmort253 I am 90% sure I have had this, but I dont remember it well sadly.
interesting
Could be an excuse to visit some extended family I have in Colorado
@jmort253 Deal!
07:06
@Kortuk Why'd you pick Colorado?
You have to buy tickets when they first start selling, like within the first couple days, they have sold out faster every year and in only 1 week last year
@jmort253 The Great American Beer Festival, and I can afford it.
right on.
07:17
@jmort253 it is 4 days, 2200 craft beers with endless samples, tickets are per night and 65 bucks
but they have some great beers.
trois pistoles and yeti are the two on my profile.
07:28
@niqalast Not taking another shot at the election?
08:14
hey @Kortuk good morning
@W5VO yeah I finally mastered the art of changing my avatar. Took me 4 months
08:49
@Kortuk is it coincidence the guy at 1'55" looks exactly like the guy on your avatar?
09:15
@jippie at where?
1 minute 55 seconds
the guy walking along
in the video you posted
@jippie haha, no
@Kortuk yes
@Kortuk ok, the guy in the video is better lookin'
09:29
my parents got lost in town because they are using a portable navigation device ...
now I would understand it if they got stuck in one of the new areas around town, but they're stuck in an area that hasn't changed since the early 60's
:-s
@jippie haha

@Kortuk did tony just delete his -17 answer?
14:13
ahh... Thank you @Kortuk!!!

(Apologies in advance if this question is cliche or taboo...) I'm looking for some recommendations for online components shops. :)
Just for hobbyist purposes. Standard ICs, resistors, LEDs, buttons and switches, etc.
@JavadocMD my favorites are digikey.com and mouser.com
Excellent, thanks
@JavadocMD one thing to be aware of is that the selection is very large at both of these companies. If you want something a bit more focused towards hobbyist use, you may want to check out sparkfun.com
Perfect. Yeah I had heard of these suppliers ages ago, but memory was failing me, and Googling wasn't being helpful.

This page ( elections.stackexchange.com/#electronics.stackexchange ) has some interesting metrics. I like how my average post score is higher than those with the highest reputation
@jippie you can add other users
??
@W5VO what is this "average post score" you're referring to?
@jippie err.. it's labeled "avg. rep. per post"
¿
@W5VO maybe I haven't got enough rep to see it?
20:05
@jippie under statistics?
@W5VO I swear it wasn't showing three seconds ago!!
@jippie possible, it loads dynamically
Tony got suspended for a year
for a year? i thought until this evening
@W5VO I must have misread the year
I think your averages indicate that you only write when you know what you're talking about, in contrast to me; I write an answer whenever I feel I need attention ;o)
@jippie I was bragging because it's higher than the highest rep users... no other reason. And you're right, I only write answers when I know the answer and when there aren't any competing good answers and when I feel like it.
so it's slightly skewed
strange how the statistics claim I have 0 downvotes. Surely I did issue downvotes (at least one)
20:14
@jippie some of TS's answers were deleted :)
@W5VO some answers appear to me as 'stray bullets'
@jippie someone suggested that ts was a chatbot fed with EE terms
@W5VO not a bad programming job then
from a software engineering point of view
I suppose.

A: Common Analog Signal Frequencies

Tony StewartQ Under what situations would it be necessary to have a bandwidth capable of measuring these digital lines as analog signals? A Debugging phantom errors in the presence of RF noise or EMI such power line transients, ESD events, RF power bursts and last but not least an EMP. Crosstalk is anothe...

@jippie the answer that he and I link to has been deleted, but the comment chain is a fun ride
@W5VO I thought the -17 answer was interesting. I never realized we had so many active users ;o)
20:30
@jippie incidentally, I didn't downvote that one - didn't see it or saw the massive number already
@W5VO neither did I, so we must have 19 active users then.
lol
@W5VO this is a typical stray bullet answer as I like to call it.
@jippie the weird thing was that every so often he would have a decent answer
@W5VO I like to make a PIEOOWWW noise like in the Hollywood movies when I read one.
@W5VO absolutely true, the answer on my 5mm LED question wasn't bad at all
although I have some trouble understanding the style of writing every now and then
20:34
@jippie that's because it is usually garbage
@W5VO English also isn't my mother language.
@jippie That's because he sells LEDs in his spare time - he actually has recent knowledge...
and the writing quality is so poor that native speakers don't understand him. I can only imagine how much harder it would be for a non-native reader.
I'm having a layout problem ...

A: Atmega328p, avrdude and setup

jippieNot sure if it is worth an answer, but the formatting will go all wrong in a comment. Allow me to share with you a little batch file I use to program ATtiny's. Tiny's are pretty much the same to program as a Mega. Also notice I use a different programmer (-c), but that shouldn't be the difficulty...

20:50
@jippie there you go
:|
@W5VO Thnx.
@W5VO How did you figure that one out?
21:02
@jippie code formatting doesn't usually work on this site because the questions aren't tagged with the programming language
so you need to explicitly state the language for they code formatting with the <-- lang=lang-bsh -->
@W5VO at looniversity, one of the standard calculations we had to do was to calculate how big the chance is for a car to spontanously tunnel through a mountain instead of driving over it ;o) Of course we were allowed to make some simplifications in the model.
@W5VO I actually received a notification for you editing my code. Never seen such a notification before:
Code in your answer to Atmega328p, avrdude and setup was edited.
21:40
not many people editing your posts?
@W5VO not often code been edited I guess
think SE wants to signal me to check if someone put a virus into my bash script
@W5VO <conspiracy>and make me look bad in mod election</conspiracy> ;o)
i'm off to bed guys
enjoy!
hello @Kortuk
21:56
@W5VO Hello.
@Kortuk I project a lightened moderation load for about a year
@W5VO No, he had three answers of the same thing just summing up things, I removed two and asked him to tell me which he wanted.
@W5VO put a reply on your nomination.
