Q: Why weren't German V-2 weapons used against the Russians?

Tom AuLate in World War II, the Nazis deployed the V-2 weapons against Britain. That is, early missiles were launched against mainly British cities from bases in France, as "strategic" strikes. Apparently, some missiles were launched against Antwerp, Belgium, as tactical strikes, to disrupt the shipmen...

Q: Did nutmeg really prevent infections during the Bubonic Plague?

SamidNot sure if this comes under biology or history. Years ago, a chemistry professor gave us a short lesson on the history of nutmeg. He said, the priests in Europe wore pouches around their neck containing nutmeg because it apparently prevented infections during the Bubonic Plague. Is there any tr...

Q: Had the French in Paris started to learn German before their liberation in 1944?

luchonachoDonald Trump's most recent tweet states: Emmanuel Macron suggests building its own army to protect Europe against the U.S., China and Russia. But it was Germany in World Wars One & Two - How did that work out for France? They were starting to learn German in Paris before the U.S. came along. ...

Q: Are there any Egyptian, Babylonian, Assyrian, or any foreign account of the demise of the Hittites?

SamidI read the Hittite Empire collapsed due to a civil war inside the capital (ignoring the territorial losses that occurred earlier). Are there any foreign accounts of that era (non-Hittite) that describe this event? Or even by neo-Hittite kingdoms? I read it was a family feud among the royals th...

Q: What is the difference between annexing, occupying and taking over a country?

Thomas GlatzelHitler in WW2 annexed or took over Austria, but occupied France and Belgium. What is the difference? When Hitler took a sliver of Poland, and Czechoslovakia, did he take over or did he occupy it?

Q: World War II question about Germany invasions

ThomasWhen Germany invaded countries like Austria, a sliver of Poland, Belgium, France, and so on. Did the country’s political systems fall under Nazi rule and become a part of Nazi Germany or were the countries just occupied by German soldiers?

@sempaiscuba Would you mind to input that into history.meta.stackexchange.com/q/3737/26786 ? –– Unhelpful is a cranky cowboy attitude of some users piling on DVs to a relatively new & low rep user without leaving constructive comments under an improvable but not that bad Q. I know it's allowed and designed that way, but it remains unhelpful and comes across as punishment.
In this case, I also would question the pure validity of the opinion expressed in votes as "not useful" for this Q: further inquiry inspired by a reference work is judged 'not useful'? More like "me no likey!"
@LangLangC The "me no likey!" aspect was basically the title of the meta post I linked to in comments. By all means link to that in your meta question if you wish.
I agree that it is unhelpful, but as you say, it's allowed and the system is designed that way.
As wiser men than me have observed, "It is an imperfect Universe".
Additionally, in this case, that question - as originally worded - was of the exact form as the currently highest-voted answer in Mark C Wallace's excellent meta post Why did my question get a downvote?
22:13
@sempaiscuba "a downvote", not 3 under the circumstances I detailed. & after some fresh air I can say – 'But': Fair enough. And I think it could still be improved further…
@LangLangC Downvotes can, and - imho - should, be reversed when the question is edited and improved. tbh, a year or so back, the question would probably have also attracted multiple close votes as well. Now it hasn't. I think that's progress.
22:33
@sempaiscuba I can agree to that.
@sempaiscuba Right now I can't comment. Is there a problem with the system or even my account?
Ah. Never mind. Probably a userscript on my side needs changes…
