Q: Where can I find the actual historical accounts of events in history, especially battles and so forth?

Hussein HorackI'm watching something about the fall of Constantinople and it was mentioned that there was a defenders' chronicle. I would pay money to read that! I really want to find these actual scribe-written accounts of what happened, instead of only watching or reading things written like 600 years later...

Q: Why did the Italian government offer Montenegro aid in exchange for agreeing with the Carrington plan?

Step StartIt's mentioned here at 8:28 : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oiSgAiM0d8A The Wikipedia article on the Montenegrin leader who accepted the plan doesn't mention the aid: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Momir_Bulatovi%C4%87#Carrington's_proposal_(1991) I haven't looked further than this.

Q: Was there intermixing between brits and Hong Kongers during Britain's control of the territory?

OutsiderWhen Britain took control of Hong Kong at the end of the First Opium War did British Europeans stay and intermix?

Q: What was European Jewish society like before 1933?

zoobyThe way I sort of was taught history implies that before 1933, countries in Europe had small minority populations who were Jewish but otherwise belonged to that country. So you might have German Jews, Polish Jews etc. So antisemitism can be viewed as a persecution of a minority. As a kind of raci...

Q: Why and when did Schulz become an Ashkenazic name?

Step StartDid it refer to the headman of a Jewish community? I have read about it in the wikipedia article (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schulz) and the wiktionary article (https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Schulz) and neither say. Is it related to money lending or tax collection, as this article could sug...

Q: Did the ancient Greeks have "taverns"?

WhitehotContext: I am going to be starting a D&D campaign in a world based on ancient Greece, rather than your classic western european medieval fantasy land. This will probably not be the only question regarding everyday life in that place and period, as I am no historian. If a band of regular folk are...

@TheHistorian Not sure if my comments went down wrongly. Is it a valid heuristic to assume that if a suspected 'trolled-topic' post gets deleted quickly by OP chances are higher it was an innocent genuine and intended as harmless post? (=Us having a false positive)

Yeah, I think its fair to say that anyone who self-deletes was probably not intending to troll. It would probably be possible to develop a trolling technique that involved self-deletions (perhaps to avoid automatic question posting bans?), but I've yet to see any evidence of someone doing that.

Indulging in a bit of self-promotion here, but I got an upvote on this old answer today:

A: Was violent or nonviolent protest more effective in the context of the 1960s Civil Rights Movement?

T.E.D.This is probably a very debatable question, but I think I can make the argument, with good historical backing, that it was the non-violent protests that were most effective in what progress was made in the Civil Rights movement. Firstly I make this argument in deference to the leaders on the gro...

About half the answer goes into the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921, and one of the commenters was particularly taken by the panoramic picture of the aftermath.
For those of you who haven't seen it yet, HBO's The Watchemen series was set in an alternate present Tulsa, with multiple flashbacks. In the first episode, there's a depiction the looting of Greenwood (North Tulsa) in 1921 after it had been overrun.
To my knowledge, this is the only attempt to depict the 1921 Race Massacre that has ever been filmed. Certainly the biggest budget one.
Its only a small bit, showing probably the ugliest phase, but my inner history geek was still in hog heaven.
My wife watching with me scoffed at the biplane bombing run depicted. At which point I had to pause and explain. "No, that shit really happened"

Q: Is there any way to link John Marshall to Andrew Johnson's impeachment?

MangI'm desperately attempting to find a way to link John Marshall to Andrew Johnson's impeachment. I'm looking for specific events, and not just his separation of powers either. I've already used the Marbury v Madison case, so I cannot directly link that either. Please help.

Q: Which philosopher said that taking notes is good?

NilsHe said something like, that this is a good way to learn, because writing it down in the own words helps one to understand it. I think it was Aristotle, but I dont know exactly any more.

Q: Is it true that Christian English monks adopted Norse hairstyles before the start of the Viking age?

Stylish MonkI remember a documentary suggesting that Vikings traded a lot with English monks, before the Viking Age started, and that the monks ended up adopting their hairstyles. They mentioned a senior monk or bishop complained against them doing this. This supposedly happened before the raid at Lindisfarn...
