This looks like a dupe to me, but I can't find anything that's an exact match. It's just ground we've been over a hundred times.

Q: DDOS TCP SYN and UDP flood attacks detection

maya-bfI'm a newbie in network security, I would like to know what are the most relevant information to look at to detect TCP SYN and UDP flood DDOS. And is it possible to prevent these attacks if detected at time. Thank you!!

This perhaps?

Q: Why is it easy to detect network layer DDoS attacks?

KyleMI have seen numerous research papers that claim it is "easy to detect network layer DDoS attacks" without saying why. Usually these research papers focus on detection or prevention of application layer attacks, which is why they don't go into detail about network layer attacks. Why is it easy to ...

@Iszi What do you mean exactly?
04:24
@David I think that makes me cry.
Doesn't everyone hate their ISP? I thought it was a requirement.

@RoryMcCune The Pwnpad community edition has been released.
But damn, it needs the 3G model. :(
05:42
@TerryChia I've got a nokia n900 i use :D
Runs well
@D3C4FF Not the same thing really. Phone vs tablet. And a very old phone at that.
@TerryChia Ah i love it. And it works pretty awesomely. I haven't had any problems with it. The wifi pwnage works well.
06:20
@TerryChia The N900 is kinda cool in that it's such a small package, albeit it's a bit out of date these days. I've got one I take on-site for wireless gigs as backup scanner. Hmm so 3G N7 needed, that puts me out for now, I've just got the Wifi version...
gotta say that pwnie express don't half charge a lot for their software given that it's based on Linux...

Q: How can I make my IP address appear to be from another country?

BrianHow do I make it appear that my IP address is coming from one country while I'm located in another? I live in Germany and some websites (like Hulu or Youtube) don't work because my IP isn't in the US. How do I get around this? Do I have to use a proxy or something? Moderator note Super ...

@TerryChia so that makes me open source?
what is faXor haXor?
10:00
@TildalWave Yes. Bet you get forked on a regular basis. ;)

Hmm. I wonder if I should apply for the Google Summer of Code program..
OWASP has some interesting stuff.
@D3C4FF Week-ends are like that.
@Lucas, @Jeff: apparently, the script was triggered.
@pnp Damn bear ! He got past me for the week.
13:30
@TildalWave Surprisingly, I woke up hangoverless. Everybody is dead, so nothing to do except checking The DMZ.
You killed everybody?
13:48
@lucas I thought so. Maybe I messed up the seting. Rather than publish now shall I wait until Monday morning? Otherwise it may not be seen.
14:39
Does anyone know if Python has a library to setup an access point using a wifi card ala hostapd? I really want to avoid system calls if at all possible.
14:51
@Adnan We're finally getting some nice days here so I've taken the opportunity and strolled around the city a bit with missus and the dog. Only returned because they're gonna get hungry soon :)
Gonna prepare some chow while she spams folks with her blog updates :))
@RoryAlsop sure, it might be because I altered the title that it doesn't publish anymore
@LucasKauffman Jerk.
15:12
@LucasKauffman Sorrrrrryyyy
@TildalWave Today was the first actual raining day. It sucks
@Adnan yup I saw the satellite photo, doesn't look good ... and UK much the same
@Adnan Here, still snowing.
Maybe last snowstorm of the winter. Maybe not.
Here it's just cloudy and chilly
I'm slightly worried that that front that @ThomasPornin is talking about finds its way here too in the coming days... it looks like it's already over UK and northern France... not too worried about the NE one tho, looks like it's breaking way before us
15:20
@TildalWave Usually it takes four or five days for East Canada storms to cross the Atlantic and reach Europe. It will cross, but it can "miss" (it can turn South to Africa, or go North to the Arctic).
Also, Europe may get depressions which missed Canada (e.g. coming straight from US East coast near Philadelphia),
@ThomasPornin dunno how the actual weather is in UK right now but it doesnt' look too dandy... we're jsut behind Alps so that sometimes stops it... I really hope this weather keeps I've been way too depressed with the gray skies for months
@ThomasPornin What are the temperatures there?
@Adnan FWIW, I'm south enough of Thomas that the systems he mentioned affecting Philadelphia often affect me too.
And now time for yard work. In that fantastic weather.
15:35
@ScottPack I don't understand the numbers
@TildalWave Today it was +7 almost throughout the whole day.
16:03
@Adnan 17°C, 44% humidity, wind 4 km/h, pressure 1020 hPa... pretty much perfect :) forecast is solid for the next week but I always take April forecasts with a big grain of salt ;)
Oh, that's +17 I forgot I'm talking with one from Finland here :)))
@Adnan It's around freezing point. Hasn't changed much for more than one month.
16:18
@TildalWave It is a "squirrel".
We have a lot of these around here.
The one in the tree on my front yard, this morning, looked quite displeased at the presence of snow.
@ThomasPornin yarp we have a huge park in the middle of the city and there's plenty of them there, and quite friendly too. In fact so friendly, they were throwing nuts off the trees after my missus and the doggie... the photo is from missus' blog where it's more, if she disclosed what she told me... I only pretend I read all of it :)) but don't tell!

17:40
@lucas I will fix for Monday morning
@tildal lovely weather in Scotland right now. That satellite photo is not accurate at small scale
@RoryAlsop NVM... I was wrong... the link is updated each hour, sry :)
@Adnan 12C, 44% Rh, 1016 mb, winds at 15km/h.
@ScottPack you forgot to put a plus sign in front of the temperature! :P

Today is 13 degrees centigrade warmer than this time last week. Result!
19:44
@RoryMcCune haha, absolutely. I'm actually one of the more polite guys around.... It's rare to insist on being patient on queueueues, and such.
the article alluded to this, but I think this has a lot to do with the technological product coming out of here.
Maybe Israelis just don't understand social conventions, just like engineers.
Actually that, and the israeli "hutzpah", contributes a lot both to engineering and startuping. Its all here:
I strongly recommend it for anyone interested in Israeli culture, OR in entrepreneurship in general. It's a good read.
It's also why, even though some really great products can be built here, there are almost no huge companies based on that. Israelis know how to build, not to sell.
20:40
@TildalWave I don't need to worry about such distinctions.
@AviD Nope.
@AdamMcKissock weeelll, are ya familiar with them now?
haaaaaaave you met Billguard?
