The way they have handled this problem is very indicative of that.

@Jis12yearsold. Oh, they also messed up production

Anonymous
Yeah.

Anonymous
But they should also have done more to make sure the cards go to the right places not any place.

Anonymous
And the whole crypto gpu thing was just another money making tactic, they didn't do that for gamers (even though they claimed they did)

@Jis12yearsold. I literally covered 3 floors and walked god knows how much to find ONE store with a card.

2:01 PM
On top of it, now you can have NFTs. Which are like pieces of paper with an address printed on it, like business cards. People buy them thinking they buy what is located at the address.

@Jis12yearsold. Its a good way to make money off old silicon
@Jis12yearsold. As I said, I like the theory, but all the implimentations suck

@Jis12yearsold. No company really cares about customers

@A.Hersean exactly, that's why the analogy with the wild west is kind of good IMO. People don't trust the government? They should instead think of improving their state, choose better politicians, fight for improving rights, etc. People who think the solution is to have cryptocurrencies are people who want to go back to a "trust-less" society, and I don't think that's where we should want to go to

they only care about the dollllllllar

Every cent counts? :D

But it doesn't mean I cannot want them to be held to higher standards.

I'll always want that...

@JourneymanGeek knife rising...

Oh yah
it'd be good, but
I dunno
30 years off using a computer has convinced me
that computers actually suck :/

2:02 PM
@JourneymanGeek I hope at some point they will mature - when I sat on the R3 group we identified a few solutions like that

I'm sure we could do so much better.

@Jis12yearsold. well - it's a good in to Monero, so...

Anonymous
@RoryAlsop Phrasing I agree with now :D

@RoryAlsop Well - Its for 'internal' use but it seems pretty easy to use
My covid vaccine cert's 'digital' and signed
NOT THAT I GET TO USE IT ANY TIME SOON.

@JourneymanGeek in Scotland we have no evidence that we have had the vaccine

2:04 PM
@RoryAlsop ._.

No app, no paper evidence.

@RoryAlsop not even a paper slip?
NHS records?

Maybe just some antibodies...

Anonymous
The NHS jab app is a disaster

Anonymous
It's black text on a screen.

2:04 PM
Ah

@JourneymanGeek well - I would hope so, but I haven't seen anything that assures me that is the case

Anonymous
Can literally just de-compile the app and write the text in the label then compile it again..

Anonymous
Absolutely fucking useless.

And I was told to call up in a few weeks to ensure I get my 2nd one

Other than the whole "Who're you?" "There's no registration counter for you lot" "OH, Just join the queue"
But that's kinda cause we got in with the quota of the agency we work for
My dad went and got our paper certs vaccinated
@Jis12yearsold. ours is that and a QR code, that links to a government app on our end

Anonymous
2:06 PM
Yeah, you really think the UK government would ever be capable of such a feat?

Presumably it'll tie into ICA's systems eventually

Anonymous
They spent 200 million on a spreadsheet...

Anonymous
The app was never going to be more than text on a screen.

Anonymous
I am glad it is. It means I don't need to get a vaccine and I can still travel - go me.

Well, I am not going to get one. But I am not against them.

Anonymous
I will get one eventually when I wish to. Not when I am instructed like I'm a fucking dog.

Anonymous
Can't even get one right now anyways so it's all irrelevant. Not offered to me yet.

2:09 PM
@Jis12yearsold. Its more a matter of taking the opportunity to
In my case work slightly insisted, then tried to play funny buggers with my already booked time.

Anonymous
If my workplace insisted I would throw a fucking tantrum.

Anonymous
That is vile. Workplace restricting your rights to work? Vile.

@Jis12yearsold. Oh, it was "we strongly recommend"
Oh, THAT didn't annoy me

Anonymous
Yeah so: "do it else you're getting fucked off outta here"

So, on my second vaccine - I was assigned a date

Anonymous
2:10 PM
(That's how I take that, anyways)

@Jis12yearsold. oh, one of my co-workers didn't want one
No one tried to talk him into it from the company

Anonymous
That's nice to hear.

My boss was like "You should go earlier so you can do your shift"
1) its a fixed time
2) THERE ARE SIDE EFFECTS
So... I took leave (I had to clear it anyway) and no one covered my shift
(and frankly, don't work for contracted gov IT, it sucks :D )
Not that you'd be desperate enough to :D

I booked a slow day after my 1st - but it was Pfizer and I had to side effects at all

I've actually been homeless. I genuinely would go homeless again. Over working for a government.

@Jis12yearsold. No worries, I'm okay. I just happened to work during a work day.

Glad you're okay.

Yeah, I am. Glad to hear you worried though

what vaccines are actually available in your countries?

2:16 PM
@Jis12yearsold. One of the things I do is work as part of an advisory body providing guidance to the Scottish government on how to be more secure, how to help the population be safer and more secure etc. There is a lot of good that can be done. I'm sure most folks who work for government are not evil

here you can choose between Pfizer and Moderna, maybe still AstraZeneca but I'm not sure (most people don't want it anymore)

@reed Pfizer, Moderna, Astra Zeneca

@reed in mine, I guess all at some point or other

@reed Pfizer is the 'default', Moderna is just rolling out
We're looking at sinovac and sputnik as an alternative
but we're tiny so the cold chain and such is easier

Anonymous
@RoryAlsop I should say, I do not think the people who work at governments are evil (not all of them). I think that the government themselves are evil and as such I do not want to assist them or be in any way associated with the evil they do! :D

2:17 PM

TL;DR: you're not evil. Neither is Sally from accounts...

I had mine at a building that used to be a bank building so assumed it wouldn't be pfizer. But I rocked up and saw two huge chiller units on the front

@Jis12yearsold. I kinda vaguely work for a corporation that works for the government.

turns out they do any and all vaccinations

Anonymous
@MechMK1 Of course! :D

2:18 PM
@Jis12yearsold. Oh, if only you knew what Sally was up to

@Jis12yearsold. I do like to think that most of what I do helps protect people

Anonymous

Anonymous
@RoryAlsop I am sure a lot of people at government do! I just don't think it outweighs the evil... But, that's your decision, not going to think less of you for it. Not like you're crafting exploits to be used is it.

@Jis12yearsold. god no - as Geek will tell you, most of my friends now tell me I'm in HR, as I'm just senior management
20 years ago I was pretty good at exploitation

But if anyone here is arming exploits for their government - I WILL hold that against you.

@Jis12yearsold. I literally get paid to stare at screens and call people when things break ._.

Anonymous
Well, in some senses "easier".

2:22 PM
@JourneymanGeek lol

Less resource intensive, we'll say.

I'm not concerned as much about power cuts as the exploits being used against dissidents

Anonymous
@JourneymanGeek Yeah you're contributing to war!!!! :D

@JourneymanGeek my jobs for the last 8 years have mostly been to talk to people and persuade them that doing the right thing is not a waste of money

@nobody true, however it still kills folks. I don't have the numbers on Ukraine deaths due to power cuts during winter but I recall it was not insignificant
@Jis12yearsold. I am very patient :-)

@RoryAlsop this.

2:25 PM

Well, yes power cuts was a bad example
Sorry

Anonymous
But you do make a good point about dissidents...

Anonymous
And journalists too should be included in that.

@nobody no - your point definitely holds true. And I guess from Russia's perspective, the Ukraine may be dissidents

Anonymous
Thats a big one. When they hack all the activists well..

2:26 PM
@Jis12yearsold. I tend to think that "cyber warfare" is... kinda too seductive and easy

But most cyber warfare sideeffects are not as alarming as exploits against civilians

there's no 'obvious' concequences, no obvious deaths...
Well unless someone gets disassembled like that journalist

Copy-paste of my comment: @Jis12yearsold. It's about calculating bounds on anonymization of datasets. As always, the point is to be able to analyze the dataset without disclosing identifying information.

Still seems like nonsense to me. I don't get this at all. I don't see any value in this but hey. It's science! Sometimes it has no direct or instant benefit.

we have 2 options:
1- live where we are now for 15 months, sell the car, finance the house for 35 years paying 30% more on the mortgage than our renting
or
2- move to a small apartment on another city for 15 months, don't sell the car, finance the house for 12 years and pay 10% less on mortgage than on our current rent

it's just me "looking only at the numbers" or option 2 is overwhelmingly better?

@ThoriumBR what's the downside of 2?

smaller apartment, another city, and the neighborhood isn't as good as here
but man, it's temporary! it's 15 months and we move to a new house... and we won't spend our retirement checks on mortgage
mortgage goes from 35 years to 12, and monthly payment from 4k to 2.6k
with interest rates close to double digits, anything you can put in downpayment shaves A LOT on the principal... and cuts a lot on the montlhy and duration of everything

If you move to another city, what about work?
option 2 sounds so much better that I'm wondering what'd missing

my job is homeoffice
@JourneymanGeek "the not so nice neighborhood"

4:34 PM
my wife does care A LOT about that, more than she should

Safety or snobbery?

if was a shanty town or a guetto, ok, but it's not... the building painting is falling off, but whatever, it's to save to buy my house. it's close to the school, it's accessible, one block away from the main avenue, the mall is 1 mile away, but isn't a pleasant place on the eyes
but if we think that any week we endure that is a week closer to our house that will be built the way we want, it's a no-brainer for me

Ah
the latter

but we live indoors, so I don't care about graffiti on the outside walls, I don't see them after all
if was to buy the place I agree, isn't a nice place... but it's with a termination date in 15 months... we move there, save a lot for the downpayment, endure those months, and move to our home shaving 23 years from the mortgage

It would be nice if he held that same energy for Palestinians. This is what I hate about this country, they have forever and always condemned antisemitism (as they absolutely should). But I do not think we have a single politician with any real sway, or anyone in government has ever supported Palestine, publicly. It is like the only humans in the matter are Jews, that Palestinians aren't even humans so why bother holding public support for them? That's how they act.

Anonymous
I am more than happy for anyone to tweet condemning antisemitism, I urge them to do so. But when you never, ever show any support for anyone else other than that one side, it makes me believe you do not think that anyone from the other side is even worthy of sympathy, empathy, genuine concern or value.

Just to add: the most disgusting part is that while all of this is going on, we have a multi million pound lobbying scandal happening, our prime minister (and mps) are not filling out ministerial code resulting in borderline corruption and to make it worse, the PM is asking donators to fund his kids fucking daycare.

If we consider the current climate, including the way that the west treats Palestinian's, it is unlikely that Palestinian's will even be able to call themselves that in 15 years.

Heh, I actually figured out what those tweets are referencing. They are apparently the "number of rockets fired by Hamas" towards Israel and Israeli' citizens.

Anonymous
This is what Israel do best, they oppress the Palestinians, then the Palestinians fight back (perhaps by throwing rocks) and Israel screams at the US: "we're being oppressed, we're being oppressed!" then the US and the rest of the west rally in favour of Israel, meanwhile Israel are the ones committing a genocide.

8:07 PM
@Jis12yearsold. Omg
@Jis12yearsold. So the US is on the side of Israel? How bad

@Warlock Not just the US. The entire west and in-fact, some of the middle east itself is on the side of Israel.

"The Iron Dome also received funding of more than $200 million from the United States."
Perhaps it is the end of the Palestinians? In the future
I'm sorry for the innocent people...

@Warlock Yeah. Pretty much. Although, I think there is also a bit more to it than just money. The west (even ones that aren't funding Israel) are in support of Israel. So it isn't exclusively about money.
