@JourneymanGeek It's not hard. You can even get a rotary dial phone.
I have one and it's quite nice. It's a phone I can actually slam.

Why do people so often have no idea how Tor works?
30
A: How does Tor protect against an attacker just running thousands of nodes?

Tom LeekTor provides privacy only under the assumption that at least one node in the randomly selected chain is not attacker-controlled (since we are talking about traffic analysis, simply eavesdropping on traffic entering and exiting this node, without trying to decrypt it, counts as "control"). This is...

This answer is +31/-1 despite every sentence having at least one factual error.
And it's weird because Tom Leek is usually spot-on with his answers.

@forest maybe because the answer is 5 years old?
09:13
@HamZa Not sure why that would matter.
The problems with the answer were known problems from 5 years ago.
i see
(With the exception of the very last sentence, sort of. The general issue was known, but the ASToria paper I mentioned that detailed it was released later. Still an issue then as it is now)

@JoshuaJones yo, my oral English final exam will be tomorrow, I need to improve my english. Communicate with me Josh, I need to write in Englisch.
this is just great. Some other person with exactly the same name as me registered the same gmail adres (possibly with less/more dots, but those don't matter for gmail). So now I get his mail...
@Arperum How are two people even allowed to have the same name?^^
I mean the same gmail-address of course^^
@watchme I don't know, it sounds like a massive issue to me.
@Arperum I cannot imagine that this is the reason for emails getting to you mistakenly. Gmail cannot be that bad^^
13:10
@watchme I contacted the other person through PII I got from mails that were aimed for him. He has the same email.
Thats weird...
I'd like to know how google decides then to which address those emails should be forwarded to
@Arperum are you shure its not some type of a prank? or something?

Because if he has really got the same email address as you do, and emails destined for him are send to you (because you got the same address).... than .... it would be possible to just create a new email-address which is the same as my neighbours and well... :D
@Arperum have you seen his email-address?
@watchme I just spoke him over the phone.
@Arperum did he ask you to send him money or the emails will continue to be send to you? If so, it's fake
I knew of his existance for years since I was always completely unfindable though googling because you'd find his stuff (he's a researcher with lots of publications)
@Arperum no okey I am joking, but its weird^^
13:20
@watchme It is weird.
@Arperum oh okay

"Since Google does not allow duplicate accounts to be created, it’s not possible (for example) to have both a first.last@ and a FirstLast@ account (because capital letters are read as lower once and dots don't matter ~ watchme). There are not two accounts with the same name and no one is getting e-mail that hasn't been sent specifically to their account."
@watchme Except that we have a case with two people with firstname.lastname@gmail accounts.
Identically the same.
@Arperum But it cannot exist... you guys broke gmail
Can you send an email to him?
and is the top-level-domain the same?
@watchme both are [email protected]
@Arperum okay... I think I got it now that your emails are the same :P
13:37
I don't know if I can send him an email. he's not in an IT related field. I don't know, nor do I want to go figure out if we can mail between the two accounts. I submitted a bugreport to google, they can figure out how to fix this nonsense.

@watchme You want to speak English with me?
14:55
@JoshuaJones Well, I can speak English and you write back :D No I just want to write a bit (you can correct my mistakes if you want to :P)
Have you already finished working?
15:11
@ОльгаСкворцова are you from russia?
@RоryMcCune is a person with a reputation below 20 allowed to chat?
good lord it's been many a long month since I've been pinged in here. I'm afraid I'll have to confess ignorance on that front and ask @AviD @RoryAlsop or one of the other mods to answer
@RоryMcCune ok :D
15:36
so apparently @AviD is clueless, but a more educated crypto.se says it's 20
minimum for chat
@RоryMcCune IIRC mods can somehow allow lower rep people to chat in a specific room. on an account-by account basis.
@RоryMcCune yeah I thought so...

Do you want to engage with people here in the chat? :P
If so I got some questions (as you seem to have experience with security/networking)

@watchme Hi there - your best bet, if there are specific questions is to post them as questions on the site.
@watchme chat is more for things that are chat...
