The one was me :) I don't know if it's SE wide or what, but upvoting questions always seemed rare on SF.

My rule of thumb is that if you think it's worth answering, then it's worth upvoting.

On the data site, one of the stock queries is to look at the ratio of rep and upvotes to see which users have the 'highest standards'.

Some really cool information is available there. Also a little bit at stackexchange.com/sites

Nice thing about the data site is that, if you speak the language, you can build your own queries against any of the SE sites and Metas available there.

Downside is, no Betas there.

@RoryAlsop Beta periods aren't necessarily based on lifetime. Sure, we get evaluated at 90 days. But, if we don't meet certain criteria (or if there's a bunch of sites still ahead of us in line) it may yet be some more months before we do get out of Beta.

Wow - I keep running across great bits of UI in stackexchange. Who knew that by clicking on a user in chat, you get a graph of what hours and days they tend to be online? (and who worries about that from a security standpoint :/ )

Mostly, yes. There are two ways

One is strictly auditory.

On the right hand side at the top you can see the speaker icon to set the volume. Whenever your name gets mentioned there's a beep.

Also, you can 'enable desktop notification'

On chrome, at least, it looks an awful lot like the guifications for pidgin.
