feels a little too implementation for crypto and a little to crypto for SF, so I'm leaning towards Sec.SE but not quite sure
@AJHenderson Doesn't feel like security at all. Possibly SO, SU or Crypto.
@Gilles it kind of is from a security implementation stand point in terms of making decisions about how you implement. ie, is there a disadvantage to using a VM for your security implementation
that's the point of connection, but it isn't a particularly strong one and is kind of peripheral
but it doesn't really fit super well anywhere. I may end up just simplifying it to the particular instruction set though, at which point it becomes a SU or SF question
@AJHenderson if you were worried about e.g. side channel resistance then both Sec.SE and Crypto would be contenders. But I don't see how Sec.SE would be a contender about performance. OTOH performance of crypto is on-topic on Crypto.SE.
if it's an administration architecture question, it might work on SF
@AJHenderson A 64 bit VM on a 64 bit machine should have performance close to the host.
If it's server-side then the instruction set would presumably be amd64? Or maybe you're considering ARMv8?
20:15
@CodesInChaos right, but it specifically needs AES-NI support
Either way I don't see what impact a VM would have on crypto performance: that's pure computation. It might have an impact on I/O; if that's your concern then Crypto.SE isn't the right place.
Intel provides a special set of AES related instructions
but the answer is apparently "yes, it does"
I found some documentation on VMWare's site
I think you can use AES-NI in a VM, but I'm not 100% sure.
so? If the question is “does VM software X support AES-NI” then it's an SU (perhaps SF) question
(I don't know whether the VM has to do anything special for AES-NI to work in a guest)
vSphere 5.1 added AES-NI support
or atleast has it in the feature list
20:48
@RоryMcCune pls leet speak doesn't suit you at all
#fogey
oh noes I just got tricked into browsing to arqade.com
-.-
now I'm going to have to hit /review and clear everything
oh cool, United just announced a direct Israel <-> San Francisco flight.
@kalina why would you do that?
I had to take 3 flights to get there, last time I went
20:49
@AviD handy, if you do more $hipster stuff
pffft
@RоryMcCune somebody commented on one of my posts
could have helped for AppSecUSA
@kalina the... bastards
@AviD indeed
'course, the flights are only scheduled to start next April 1st.... which made everybody believe they were getting a headstart on pranking everyone....
20:50
@RоryMcCune hey I may not be a fan but at least I have the courtesy to read people's comments
@AviD see AppsecEU 2016 is in rome..
I think I've also awarded the checkmark a few times in my idle state
@kalina very noble of you
@RоryMcCune I know! and good timing, for a change!
@AviD yeah will need to see if I can get to that one
20:51
@RоryMcCune thanks, I try
@RоryMcCune AppSecEU 2017 will be in Tel Aviv ;-)
I hope
@AviD who was it in here who objected to that concept, I forget
I don't remember Israel being part of the EU
did something major happen while I last slept?
@RоryMcCune @Adi. but its really not an issue
@kalina not Schengen, no. But the EU business zone, or whatever they call it...
20:52
@kalina careful, you're dangerously close to agreeing with @Adi about something
@AviD hell Scotland's not part of schengen
@RоryMcCune does he frequently miss something major when he sleeps?
wow damn, that TLV-SFO flight is NOT expensive!
(and with our current .gov we'll be leaving the EU altogether)
@AviD no schengen not in the EU
@RоryMcCune the Uk isn't part of the EU, they can gtfo as well
@kalina I have no idea
20:53
@kalina bullcrap, half of europe is not in schengen
:p~
@kalina err we are at the moment part of the EU
ahhh wait, I mean "EU" as short for "Europe", like USA
not "the semi-legal entity known as the European Union"
20:54
I mean EU as in European Union, you know... what it actually stands for
leaves 1AM, gets there 6AM - same day. Dang.
@kalina bzzzzrrrt. EU was used as a shorthand for Europe long before this stupid Union thing.
and, AppSecEU is "AppSec Europe" not "AppSec European Union"
actually I should check that
@AviD I was going to say "not in my lifetime", but...
I'm not going to finish the rest of the sentence in order to leave multiple possible answers
@kalina you'd have to be hella' old to predate the earliest incarnation of the EU (the EEC)
@RоryMcCune EU was November 1993
the internet says so
@RоryMcCune I meant, in that name format
@RоryMcCune so, like @RoryAlsop?
20:58
@kalina yeah but it really started with the treaty of Rome in 1958
@RоryMcCune that's more than 50 years ago, nobody cares
@AviD well obv. in ancient one terms this is but the tick of the clock
@kalina well apart from people over 50
and what do they know
they probably don't care either
There's a cricket in here and it's DRIVING ME INSANE
@RоryMcCune well, not a lot... senility and all
@DavidFreitag #tumbleweed
20:59
@DavidFreitag we had a weird noise in the kitchen tonight, one of the cats had managed to get into a gap under the sink and investigated under the house
he's been wanting to get down there for years
@RоryMcCune You have a hole in your kitchen? You should probably get that patched.
@DavidFreitag it's under the sink, in a cupboard
just where the pipes go
we usually keep the cupboard shut
but obv. forgot tonight
lol, nice typo
21:01
yeah I caught it before it could get quoted
@RоryMcCune in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying Beware of the Leopard
@kalina best place for important docs like plans, that
I <3 HHGTTG
howdy everyone

@JonathanMusso indeed
@AviD how are you?
@JonathanMusso yeah, pretty much
heh sorry I seem to be at my nonsense stage of lack of sleep / overwork
it's ok
i am in same state lol
21:24
NO ITS NOT
BUT IT WILL BE
3 DAYS NO SLEEP
4th and counting
fucking medication is shit lol
21:38
@RоryMcCune Thanks for that, I wouldn't have understood without it.
#sleepy
cookies need love like everything does
@kalina Do you show affection towards your cookies by devouring them?
21:53
om nom nom
22:06
@DavidFreitag flames. @kalina shows affection with flames.
In this case, it works out okay, the cookies are a bit singed but not burnt.

Hi someone told me my app crytpo algorithm was not IND-CPA. I can oonly find complex information online about it but still got no clue
How do I make it so isn't SSL connection good enough?
