Word is a good word processor. Just not worth my time when I can do the same in TeX without thinking of it. Well most of the time. Well sometimes... well yesterday.
If word processors were knives, Word would be a single-bladed pearl-inlaid walnut-handled pocket knife, whereas LaTeX is a trusty swiss army knife with 30,000 different attachments.
Both are very nice, and both will get the job done, but if all I want to do is turn a stick into a pointy implement of s'more making, I'll choose the pocket knife over the swiss army knife every time.
Like I said, if I were doing anything more complicated than writing a paper for an underpaid english instructor at a college, then sure I'd probably use some flavor of TeX
@Xander Interesting read. And no, it doesn't flat-out say Word is better. It demonstrates that Word is easier to use, and use accurately, for most common word processing tasks. But it also goes to demonstrate that LaTeX is significantly superior in these regards, when the document contains a large amount of mathematical equations.
