dude, you gotta dump them in the swamps of your subconcious instead
Adi
Adi
This made me giggle
#tayawaythegay
@JourneymanGeek I don't think a mummified swamp body is the answer.
sure it is
Fun for the whole family
I'm afraid it'll light little candles under the water trying to lure me into the swamp.
@JourneymanGeek what if he's all bogged out?
> dude / dju:d, du:d / n. (Amer. sl.)

Same source
doesn't quite add up
10:16
what? A contradiction on the internet? No such thing ever happens...
I already edited it, why is this one able to suggest an edit to the previous version?
because the system works as designed
And why is Jens Erat always approving everything?
because they go through the queue clicked "OK " without reading
and the system is working as designed so nobody ever cares about it
well there's this mod option to ban people from suggested edit review queue
10:25
so use it
in fact, just ban everybody
and then unban those that ask
@TildalWave I've improved the edit now
but it's still a dupe of "how ssl works"
@M'vy Why? I already did that before. And you still left grammatical errors et al. :P
@TildalWave Well, the suggested edition had some value. Did I miss some mistakes?
Something's weird here...
10:28
94% fat free? That means this is 6% fat!
yes, grammar is still messed up now, starting from the very first sentence
@TildalWave Can you revert to your version? (For a reason I was seeing the old one onlye... not sure why)
@Flyk What's the other 94% supposed to be?
high in fiber apparently
@M'vy sure, done
@M'vy and that's what bugged me, you're the second one that apparently only saw the old revision, even though I edited it before
@Flyk it is a rope?
10:32
why would a rope contain 6% fat? Unless it was absorbed from the bodies of the victims who were desperately holding onto the rope to avoid death but failed
@Flyk OK OK a second hand rope then LOL
weetabix?
some composite material?
dry rolling tabacco?
a plank of wood?
string on @Rory's guitar?
ooo @AviD joins the edit war :)
uhhh there was a war?
no, but it sounds more important like that
what can I say, I have a slow Tuesday ;)
The War At Tuesday
I wonder if @Adi got @Kisunminttu to turn up singing his praises
10:48
@Flyk did that happen?
maybe that's why @Simon got @simon's.donut to appear
maybe they're all related
maybe they're all the same person
@AviD see the star list
actually it's not in the star list but there is a message from that conversation in the star list to provide easy access to it
maybe we're ALL the same person
@Flyk I have no proof that you're not
or that any of you even really exist at all
maybe in his old age, @RoryAlsop's personality exploded into hundreds of different people
@AviD she's not me.
@Flyk could happen
@AviD likewise
10:50
except for @Simon. There is no way that is a result of machine intelligence, or my own sick imagination.
as if a social media presence is any kind of proof that you exist
I am trying to work on some quirks / weirdness as I get older (yes, such a thing is possible)
@Flyk like when he entered his own timeline.
@RoryAlsop you need more?
@AviD I want some interesting ones
@RoryAlsop replace random words with cake
10:52
mmm - cake
yes, that worked
@RoryAlsop you should grow a human head out of your chest
this bassline needs more cake
"what are you doing?"
turning up the cake while adding more cake to the cake so that it cakes and the air moves
what did you even just say -.-
@TildalWave yeah that's pretty weird.Probably a time factor in there
@AviD been done
@Flyk cmon, please. Total recall?
10:55
@Flyk this cake goes up to 11
@RoryAlsop still interesting.
@AviD what does total recall have to do with it?
@RoryAlsop this cake goes up to cake.
it's a cinema production of Philip K Dick's story "We can remember it for you wholesale"
there is a character - Kuato - who is a leetle bit mutated
just a smidge
you're using some strange words
what is a "smidge"
@Flyk a tad. a soupçon
11:07
Technically kuato was a little person with a big person attached
@JourneymanGeek true
@JourneymanGeek but in @RoryAlsop's case, he would be the big person with a little person attached
NO I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT GENITALIA
JEEZ YOU GUISE
why are you talking about little rory in that way?
I can't believe how low you guys stoop at times

nobody has ever had a conversation about microscopic avid

11:12
Lol
@RoryAlsop thought I was joking and then he checked what IP address I'm connected to chat with
it's too early to sleep but I'm already tired
watery eyes like cutting up onions means bed time
@CodesInChaos AFAIK what happens is that their customers do security reviews, which Oracle regard as "reversing their code" and then give them findings. this annoys oracle 'cause all those little customers should just be trusting in Oracles marvellous security reputation...
I agree
Oracle obviously know what they're doing
Afterall, they continued the development and support of Java
@Flyk and you love Java?
nope
does anybody?
11:17
@Flyk possible, but does seem unlikely
I'm unqualified to make jokes about programming
Adi
Adi
@Flyk What's on the starlist?
as I was stalking through chat messages, I found this
Adi
Adi
@Flyk 2 words too many
@Flyk That one only has 1/3rd of the data, there is another one that has all the data. It's a chart of who is blaming who.
11:21
@Adi look at you arriving in chat with weapons powered
Adi
Adi
@Flyk Too much negative energy from my flatmate's girlfriend.
Sorry about that
@Arperum I like how I'm assigned minimal blame while simultaneously slaughtering everybody
That's the complete version.
@Adi it's fine, I discharge my hatred for a handful of men on the entire male population of the world
@Adi hi Adam, hows tricks?
Adi
Adi
11:23
@Flyk Oh no, I'm discharging on females and males at the same time
5
@Arperum amazing with the amount of idle I demonstrate that I even appear on there
@Adi sounds like quite a party.
@Flyk That's from all the time you spend over there before.
erm... +umbrella
pls don't discharge in my hair
@Flyk a clove of smidgerine :)
11:26
sometimes I feel like minesweeper cheats and purposelly chooses the square next to the one I tapped so I lose
@Arperum Blame @KevinvanderVelden
@Arperum what is it?
@RoryAlsop a big graph with a lot of spikey lines
I would have thought that much was apparent
13 mins ago, by Arperum
@Flyk That one only has 1/3rd of the data, there is another one that has all the data. It's a chart of who is blaming who.
Well that last one is full data actually
Y U HATE ME LIFE?
3 2 TAP FAILS IN A ROW?!
srsface
11:36
CUZ PONIEZ!
ZOMG
no this isn't pony related
this is Minesweeperjustbecamesentientanddecideditnolongerwantsmepushingitsbuttons related
well, that was worth a try
@M'vy yes, but what is it
@RoryAlsop "It's a chart of who is blaming who." < ? not clear enough?
@RoryAlsop it's data stored in an image format detailing the number of instances an individual in an internet chat room blames another individual in an internet chat room, with lines drawn between each blame target and thickened based on occurrences
11:39
@RoryAlsop it's a white hole
now, is a white hole a real thing?
because I was watching Andromeda to get to sleep lastnight
@Flyk wrong series
that's from Red Dwarf
and they converted a black hole into a white hole using weapons of mass destruction to create a star and blow everybody up
yes, but what is it?
or something
in all fairness I was 99% asleep at the time
11:40
@Flyk a white hole is just a black hole from inside its event horizon
how do you even know that? Have you ever been inside a black hole?
it's also how we know we're not in one
In astrophysics and physical cosmology, Olbers' paradox, named after the German astronomer Heinrich Wilhelm Olbers (1758–1840) and also called the "dark night sky paradox", is the argument that the darkness of the night sky conflicts with the assumption of an infinite and eternal static universe. The darkness of the night sky is one of the pieces of evidence for a non-static universe such as the Big Bang model. If the universe is static, homogeneous at a large scale, and populated by an infinite number of stars, any sight line from Earth must end at the (very bright) surface of a star, so the night...
it doesn't explain it directly, but you'll get the point
please don't spread your so called "science" which accounts to nothing more than stoned people sitting around dreaming things up as fact
@Flyk but that's how science works
there is no way a primitive species like humanity, who still struggle getting humans into anything other than low earth orbit could even begin to comprehend things like this
it's basically fiction passing off as intellectually confirrmed fact
in other news, Jedi are a real thing, travel by Stargate is possible and there is life on Mars right now, and until you disprove it that statement is no different from your science about how black holes work
11:47
@Flyk That's ridiculous.
Jedi are real (just use the force), travel by Stargate is possible (if you can build one), and there probably is some life on Mars right now (spacecraft sent there are sterilized, but that has proven before as not 100% effective)
Everyone knows that the last Martian was accidentally exiled to our planet, and when the rest of his race return he will battle their leader for keeping the peace.
I find that my enjoyment of using Windows Phone 10 for mobiles is largely based on the accent color I set
Morning gang
And how black holes work is either proven experimentally, with observations, or concluded by deductive reasoning ;)
11:49
it's evening
stop enforcing your time of day on me
hugs @Flyk
@TildalWave the problem is that "deductive reasoning" in this instance is like reading the first paragraph of a 500000 page book and guessing the end
@Flyk Please. only need to read the inside cover for that.
@Flyk my query was more around what constitutes "blame" but I left it deliberately vague for comic effect
@Flyk evening.. where have you wandered off to this time? Australia or something...
11:51
@Flyk no, it's more like reading a Rorschach test
@DavidFreitag well after much testing last night gonna have to cancel my subscription for the VPN :/
I mean, you're talking about a species that actively poisons it's own air, food and water supply on a daily basis and SEES NO PROBLEM WITH IT! They're hardly masters of thinking things through
@RoryAlsop I would assume it's based on the recognition of "blame something" in a sentence. (probably even a sentence with only "blame [words]" for what matters)
@TildalWave exactly
@Flyk I'm not talking about species at all, what has any of that got to do with how idiotic mankind can be?
11:56
because it's mankind that is coming up with the hypothesis on how things work
@Flyk there is life on Mars: xkcd.com/1504
you can't say "mankind are stupid except this part of mankind which is brilliant and must be correct"
@RoryAlsop I love that one
@Flyk we can. But I tend to word it along the lines of "Any large enough group of humans is stupid, despite their being small pockets of individual and team intelligence"
even though they're talking about completely theoretical things that they've got no proof or real experience with
11:57
@Flyk s/are/is/
@RоryMcCune lol @rorspeelinazzi
@RoryAlsop I've been doing a lot of report QA recently, has that effect on me
@RoryAlsop there*
I'm starting to get a massive unenjoyment about the amount of latency I have
it's annoying me enough that I might just go to sleep
@Flyk takes the packets a long time to cross the indian ocean
well assuming they don't go the other way round of course
well these packets are going all MH170 on me
12:02
@Flyk they probably get slowed down when they get to the equator and have to get turned back the right way up
@Flyk No, it's individuals, exceptional ones. And you're judging their ability to comprehend complex things based on how well Joe and Jill Average are able to do that.
@TildalWave strange because I don't remember Joe and Jill average making the choice to burn corpses for electricity - it would seem to me that we are in fact talking about the same group of people
And nowadays, it's actually groups of these exceptional individuals, because it became too difficult to progress much anywhere without huge projects.
as a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure Joe and Jill average would have been perfectly happy living in mud huts before your precursor black hole dreamers came along and industrialized everything

Q: Preventing ethernet over power

philI'm an electrician doing a job at a secure site. The client is concerned that someone could plug a ethernet over power connection into the switch and then connect elsewhere in the building. Is this possible and if so, how can I prevent it? The room is secure with a dedicated 3 phase supply and no...

^Interesting question
12:05
at least the precursor dreamers actually got some hands on experience with their dreams, rather than just pulling ideas out of thin air
I'd guess there's some kind of answer about filtering frequencies on the power line
@RоryMcCune simple. just flip the master breaker switch.
@AviD heh, I'm guessing there's an implicit (we still want the power to work) in there
@Flyk You're judging the whole world based on moral values of some crematorium in Durham, England? C'mon. With a few bright exceptions, the whole England is pretty much the last place on earth I'd ask anyone for opinion on moral issues.
@RоryMcCune is "occasional power surge" an acceptable answer?
12:08
@TildalWave I'm not sure how we got onto England
@Flyk "burn corpses for electricity"
@TildalWave sure, all of the deposits in the ground are decomposed carbon based life forms, like coal, and oil, etc
48 mins ago, by Arperum
@Flyk That one only has 1/3rd of the data, there is another one that has all the data. It's a chart of who is blaming who.
That one ifs the full chart.
@AviD heh could be. It's interesting tho' 'cause I'd bet there's a risk of data exfiltration there (or accidental network extension without corp security approval) and I'll bet no-one is looking for it
@AviD quick register powerlinesecurity.io and get someone who knows how to do electronics to come up with a detection device!
@RоryMcCune and a plug-in blocker
"like a condom for your powerlines!"
12:11
@AviD yeah the cheap option is is lockable plug insert
all we need is the 50c plastic cover we use for kids, sell these at 23K a pop, plus a site-license.
@RоryMcCune in all honesty I'm not sure what this question is asking
@Flyk how do I stop people using powerline networking to bridge a secure site and a bit outside of a secure site
}]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]
12:14
@RоryMcCune very simple answer. The smoothing is probably not even needed
@RoryAlsop see I knew someone like you or @DavidFreitag would know that kind of thing
@RоryMcCune search everybody on the way in
@RoryAlsop you can be CTO of powerlinesecurity.io then :)
@RоryMcCune yay (something I know, combined with the name of a Jovian moon)
raz
raz
So I still can't login to Meta
12:16
@Flyk Oh that. Jeez you sure use strong words to get your point across. That's not really corpses, is it? And FWIW there wasn't really any scientific process involved in the choice of where we get most of the energy we use from. Actually, it's quite the other way around and it's thanks to science that we might, just might if we're lucky, move onwards without sacrificing too much.
@raz what happens when you try
@Flyk yeah for some sites that might be a plan. I know for some jobs we're barred from taking things like mobile phones onto site
raz
raz
@RoryAlsop Says I need to sign up for an account
@raz and what happens when you click login
raz
raz
errrr no literally nothing happens
I click login, and the web page blinks, but no change
12:18
@RоryMcCune the doughnut does a good frisk and search
@raz oddness
raz
raz
@RoryAlsop I agree, it started yesterday. I figured it'd fix itself
@TildalWave what? kalina in "uses blunt wording" shocker? I'm shocked that you're surprised
@RoryAlsop yeah I can see that being the case.. you know you could completely change the meaning of that sentence by misspelling doughnut
raz
raz
I am shocked Cotton
@Flyk I'm probably more surprised that I was surprised by it :)
12:19
@RоryMcCune yup - which is why I very nearly did...but couldn't bring myself to stoop so low
le gasp
raz
raz
@RoryAlsop So I take it you can login just fine?
yes, basically, your account got deleted and nobody wants to own up
@RоryMcCune DNBYOD (or else) policy?
there was a conversation about it in here but I think the transcript got cleansed
12:23
@TildalWave yeah pretty much, I tend to avoid that kind of assignment where possible
you're here to work, not to sit on Facebook on your phone
@raz yep - just tested
Don't like it? Get lost.
@Flyk what if that's your job?
@Flyk it is often useful to have the tools of the trade accessible
sometimes the organisation doesn't have them
so you need to be able to get them
12:25
LOLz Oracle have pulled that blog post... blogs.oracle.com/maryanndavidson/entry/no_you_really_can_t
if you have no connectivity/devices it gets tricky
which of course means it's totally gone from the Internet web.archive.org/web/20150811072134/https://blogs.oracle.com/… .... or not
LOL @RоryMcCune
@Flyk phones are actually v. useful for reserach where the site has restricted Internet access :op
raz
raz
@RoryAlsop lame, this is bush league. Must be part of the "New Design"
12:27
Ironic that that blog post can't be found. Unlike bugs in their products.
^awesome D litchfield burn there
hahahaha - lovely
@RоryMcCune oh my response to such a thing would be "well, cya then"
@Flyk well it's generally only for a couple of days while you do the review.. tolerable if annoying
@RоryMcCune hahahaha thats almost funnier than the original post itself
[a man is choking] waiter: quick is anyone a doctor? vim user: i’m a vim user
Jeez google is getting to be more swiss cheese than Windows
12:37
@JukEboX kudos to IBM for getting anything to run on 55% of android devices
Hahhahah @AviD
@JukEboX tbf though, Android was always swiss cheese.
@AviD is this supposed to be funny?
This is true. Open source is practically transparent paper
Also tbf, I'm not sure this qualifies as "bugs", since Android was designed that way.
@M'vy still have trauma?
12:38
@AviD I don't think so.
@CodesInChaos pls germany
@AviD Trauma?
@AviD ??
Someone needs to turn Hollywood off now
Morning @M'vy
Hi @JukEboX :)
why would you need a doctor for a choking man?
surely you'd just stand around and laugh
12:41
@Flyk Gives asprin to someone with a heart attack.
And a cold compress :P
aspirin is the correct thing to give in the event of a heart attack
You look like a thing.
my hair is not that long
@JukEboX Aspirin can actually help in that case. OK, you might wanna eat the whole box and risk ulcers, but it's pretty good at reducing blood clots. Glycerin is much better tho.
@TildalWave what's the assimilation time though ?
12:45
@M'vy pretty fast, it's only a relatively simple acid
@TildalWave I know I was just pointing out that it would take some time. It isn't really fast acting
@M'vy aspirin is pretty quick, it dissolves in fluids at room temperature
@TildalWave plus heart attacks have many possible causes
like donut eating
@M'vy That is true. But it doesn't hurt to take aspirins anyway, whichever the cause.
12:46
@TildalWave yeah. If you are still able to drink anything
linking to responses is so difficult
@M'vy place under the tongue, it'll melt with saliva
@Simon dude given your name for your girlfriend you might want to be careful with the contexts that you use the word "donut" in ;op
@Flyk yeah, the message numbers is growing fast
and it's also where it'll be absorbed into the bloodstream the fastest
12:47
@RоryMcCune :D
@TildalWave Unless you have hemophilia, in which case aspirin kills you.
BTW that's also how they give glycerin
@TildalWave Then how does it go into your blood?
That's also how people pop pills.
@Simon also remember that ever time you're pinged also pings her
12:48
@Flyk I don't think that's true.
@ThomasPornin you wouldn't be suffering from a coronary then, so if you're having a heart attack you're pretty much gone, it's already died to the point of no return
really? do you not think that there are plenty of blood vessels in the mouth?
well, necrotic is the right term
but whatever
@Simon pinging @rory used to ping all the rories, why would pinging @simon not ping all the simons?
@Flyk @Simon yeah gotta say that makes sense
12:49
@Flyk Could be the capital letter, maybe the 2nd one did ping her though.
you should ask your donut whether her ping levels are through the roof!
dunno
@SIMON Capital's don't matter for pings
YOU'RE A CAPITAL PING
@Simon I know you dunno, that's why I was suggesting asking her :op
12:50
@M'vy directly through the capillary system
I would doubt "through the roof", @Simon isn't that popular
@RоryMcCune FIne, fine, I will tonight.
pls I had 9 notifications this morning.
@Flyk they have low roofs in canada, something to do with all the snow
she'll say no, when she does, be afraid of her intentions
@Simon pls I get 9 notifications per morning after not logging into the site for 6 months
pls
12:52
pls
I could set an auto ping for @Simon so that he can feel special
@Flyk Thing 1 or Thing 2
Ping him every 5 minutes till early morning :P
@RoryAlsop which one is which?
I could set an auto flag.
12:55
and why no "Thing 3", "Thing 4",...?
@TildalWave Cat couldn't fit all 4 things in 1 box
@TildalWave I take ibuprofen
in The Base Camp, 2 hours ago, by Rory Alsop
It's the only non-prescription painkiller I can use. Paracetamol doesn't work for me - plus it gives me ulcers. But I have taken at least 500mg of ibuprofen almost every day since 1996 and it works very well. Keeps me mobile and reduces the pain a lot. Occasionally need codeine it stronger. And occasionally tramadol. It's a necessary part of my life thanks to a single drunk driver
@TildalWave they are shy
@TildalWave either
@RoryAlsop LIES!! THE @RORY DOES NOT GET "ULCERS"!
Ibuprofen is love, Ibuprofen is life.
@AviD If you poison him.
12:56
@AviD And aspirin just tastes bad and does nothing much for me (other than thinning my blood)
@RoryAlsop you need to move over to vicodin and get a cane
@Simon Ibuprofen-filled donuts.
@RоryMcCune haven't tried vicodin
@RoryAlsop then you'll be able to get away with doing anything you like!
@RoryAlsop lOl

Q: Can FBI or government agencies still get hold of my files if I store them on Google Docs?

GravitonAssume the following: I am doing all my work, including the one with sensitive information on Google Docs. No documents are stored on local hard drive. I am not using the Google Drive App, just doing everything via web interface There is no one "looking over my shoulder", or manages to install ...

I'm tired of these crappy questions rep training.
Or a couple of the other lyrics to that QotSA song
@RoryAlsop Yeah we were discussing aspirins and heart attacks ... I kinda doubt you could treat a heart attack with an ibu. It might relieve some chest pain, but your lungs would still get filled with water.
@Simon Crappy Q's reptrain as they have the widest applicable audience
interesting question tend to be niche
That one is pure tinfoil hattery though.
