Why do I need this information in my check-in email?
08:03
Is this room for security?
Adi

@Hjorthenify Jepp
Nice. If I were to make a website that are to be used in some supermarkets how would I make it so that unauthorized people can't access the website? Should I make a login for the page or are there other ways?
Adi
Adi
@Hjorthenify Is it an internal web application?
No it has to connect to a remote server
And I think my requirements are that they have to access the website through an url, which means I can't make it locally on their machines
I'll have to follow up on that though
Adi
Adi
@Hjorthenify Depending on the sensitivity of the information exchanged on that application, a 2-factor authentication solution seems suitable.
08:14
Right. That would be better than just a login. Do you have any recommendations for how I should implement the token? We won't be sending a guy out to install it, so my question is how they(the supermarket) should get the token and easily install it?
Am I talking gibberish? :P
Adi
Adi
@Hjorthenify How do the supermarkets get the username/password?
Probably by email(not my decision)
Adi
Adi
When you give the username/password, you give them a TOTP token than they can install on a mobile device that has something like Google Authenticator (or the iOS/Windows equivalent)
I'll look into that, thanks.

Good way to get yourself disliked.

baAAH?
10:18
@RoryAlsop Now you broke it though.
Good Morning !
@Arperum oh, that's a bit inception....
Adi
Adi
Too late, @HamZa. Too late.
hehe :)
@RoryAlsop totally your fault the combo's broken
10:19
@SteveDL watch it, or I'll change it back :-)
(to be fair there was an incorrect capitalisation just before i arrived so t'was still not my fault)
@SteveDL I really wanted to fix Barry's M but that wouldn't have been as funny
The combo has ended.
The end of hte world is night
REPENT
REPENT THE WORLD IS OVER SOON!
Glad I'm not the only one who spotted it
Why would we bother to repent if the world is over?
goes eat unhealthy food
DON'T REPENT DO ALL THE BAD THINGS YOU WANNA DO!
FLUFF IT ALL TO HELL!
flips The DMZ
10:21
@BarryCarlyon so that all the DMZ chips fall to the floor?
I think we are now the MZ instead of D now…
WE DON'T HAVE THE D!
NOOO don't let us fall to the north korean side!
@BarryCarlyon don't - that's the call of the @Simon!
HALP!
panics
I'll just wear my safety flat hat.
10:24
spontanouesly explodes into glitter
This devolved into random pretty fast...
I think I need less random in my life right now. I have a test case which is randomly failing.
I have the requirement "move these pages to the root of the site, and don't break stuff!"
Especially "woo" when you have multiple of the bloody pages/files with the same name.
10:32
:-(
@BarryCarlyon Sounds like you are applying for a role in my band...
@RoryAlsop I am a competent triangle player and work well individually and as part of a team. I can play in band too?
After all, how many live artists have got a rhino? That's gotta be rock and roll, right?
@Rhino that's so metal.
10:51
@Tinned_Tuna Not sure it'd be okay for me to crowdsurf. As a rhino, I have quite a large BMI.
@Rhino lol
'Breaking news, tens of heavy metal concert-goers crushed to death by crowd-surfing rhino. Band members and survivors of the tragedy described the scene as "So metal."'
"Rhino said to have had a whale of a time, leading band to promise whale at next concert."
@Rhino "Sei Metal"
(I'll get my coat)
The sei whale (/ˈseɪ/ or /ˈsaɪ/), Balaenoptera borealis, is a baleen whale, the fourth-largest rorqual after the blue whale, the fin whale and the humpback whale. It inhabits most oceans and adjoining seas, and prefers deep offshore waters. It avoids polar and tropical waters and semi-enclosed bodies of water. The sei whale migrates annually from cool and subpolar waters in summer to winter in temperate and subtropical waters. Reaching 19.5 metres (64 ft) long and weighing as much as 28 tonnes (28 long tons; 31 short tons), the sei whale daily consumes an average of 900 kilograms (2,000 lb) of...
Actually - I just love the way that trips off the tongue - "The fourth largest rorqual is Balaenoptera borealis"
11:06
@RoryAlsop Ror-qual? Are all whales Scottish then?
@Rhino nah ----- Welsh ----- all from Wales
:-)
@RoryAlsop Oh man oh man.
That was bad
what do you expect for Punday
I should have been prepared for it yes, but all the same.
@Rhino I've actually seen a triangle player on a stage in a metal band.
11:18
that's really the most useless instrument ever to play
I mean, you spend years studying music and then you decide "let me go play the triangle"
that's like being a webdevelopper and choosing PHP
2
@LucasKauffman you think most musicians 'study' music....
I can't remember what band it was though, I think it was some Slovenian band playing on Metaldays.
ANd I think it was last year, but it might've been two years ago.
@RoryAlsop I can only recall seeing triangles in classical concertos :p
11:21
@LucasKauffman yeah - us rock bands use moar cowbell
I probably will try to catch a nice concert at Botanic gardens in Singapore, they do open air concerts
@RoryAlsop exactly!

12:14
man where is everyone
@raz Today is holiday in Canada.
Didn't you know that half the DMZ is Canadian ?
12:33
@ThomasPornin Salmon salmon salmon, maple syrup, salmon, sorry
raz
raz
@ThomasPornin I generally ignore that fact.
I thought most people were from the UK actually
Is it bad form to award a bounty to an answer different from the accepted answer?
If I could accept both answers I would.
@raz Your bounty is yours, you award it to whom you want.
The only bad thing is awarding it to your sockpuppet account.
raz
raz
@ThomasPornin Damn, but my sock puppet needs to rep!
@raz THEN GET IT TO WORK !
raz
raz
@TomLeek gah, my sock puppet is an idiot.
Oh, @ThomasPornin (from last week) it turns out the disassembler I was using didn't support the object file format. Which is why everything was getting messed up. Using the correct objdump gave me what I wanted.
12:45
@raz What Thomas said. I don't know if there's options to split bounties these days - people certainly used to offer bounties on questions with the express purpose of giving them to a specific answer and not always the accepted one. I think if you don't award a bounty manually it goes to the accepted one (or highest voting) after a certain delay
raz
raz
@Rhino Yeah 24 hours
Between @TomLeek's answer and @Ali's diagrams/answer I got what I wanted.

14:10
Neglecting to take my allergy meds this morning was a terrible idea.
What was my brain thinking
14:23
@DavidFreitag Not all that much it seems.
14:38
hey guy
does anyone know if there have been recent updates to Dradis or MagicTree
or what is generally cool for pen test result aggregation?
15:23
@RoryAlsop ROAR
Roary?
15:36
love it when VS crashes

can people PLEASE stop downvoting questions they think are stupid?
just because they don't know stuff doesn't mean it's a BAD question

Q: Would requiring multiple passwords enhance security?

Glen DespauxI assume that it was considered at one point, and that there's a good reason for not doing it, I'm just curious as to why. I'm sure that there are many people who struggle to remember a single password for a site, but aside from that, would requiring two or three passwords to login to a website r...

@Polynomial I downvote questions that are unanswerable, personally
that question is answerable
it's also on-topic
i didnt downvote it :p
I generally don't downvote questions
But then again I very rarely actually use the site for anything other than information gathering

18:16
There's nothing quite like getting zapped by 120v AC
18:31
@DavidFreitag Indeed, getting zapped by 220V AC is a lot more dangerous.
@ThomasPornin That's because 220 causes your muscles to lock up
But I have found 120 hurts more than 220
raz
raz
18:55
Can't say I've been zapped with that high a voltage. I always thought the current was the deadly part, not the voltage.
19:05
@raz You are a resistor.
2
I.e. more voltage means more current, proportionally, as long as the current source can deliver it.
@raz It's the combination that kills you. 50mA across your heard and your heart stops, but there's a certain threshold voltage that needs to be passed in order to reach your heart.
raz
raz
@DavidFreitag Ah that makes sense.
V=IR and all that jazz
19:44
@raz Also because human flesh has been shown experimentally to have a non-linear resistance with respect to voltage

GHOST VENUM POODLE!?!? They're my favorite.

Q: How can I get a log of all incorrectly entered passwords in linux?

gagan1kumarHow can I get a list of all incorrect passwords used whenever someone tried to log in. And how can this be generalized to all types of password fields in linux? As it mentioned by K1773R, yes it's a not good for security, But i still wanted a temporary solution.

@Gilles Seems to me someone is trying to write some "malware"

Q: Handling broad repetetive quesions

SOJPMI recently wrote this Q&A that was meant to be a monolithic point of help for (nearly) all questions regarding. But for a "serious" question this was of course too broad. If anybody else would have put this question I'd flat out have voted to close it as "too broad". Now this action was inspire...

Q: Are commercial aircraft designed with a shared data network?

GdDIn modern airliners, do systems like the in-flight entertainment system (IFE) share the same physical and/or logical network as the flight management systems (FMS)? Is there any communication between the IFE and the FMS? Also, is there any Airbus training or procedure that might deal with what to...

Should we accept this question here if it is migrated from Aviation SE? This is about the Roberts case (alleged hacking of the FMS on United flights) (pinging @Gilles)
@DeerHunter sounds like more of a Skeptics or Aviation question than a Information Security question
@Gilles - no hard data either way...
not saying that it is firmly off-topic here but it's very specific to airplanes so Aviation should be where the experts are
My gut feeling is that the experts keep their mouths shut to avoid following in Roberts' footsteps
NDAs and all this...
Need actual schematics for the buses.
22:04
Quick someone find an RCE so we can fly to the moon a few times
22:44
so if you're interested in how integer overflow bugs work (or bad int type casting generally) this might be an interesting read:

23:04
@RoryAlsop: I'm confused by your migration act done here without leaving a comment. Can you justify the logic behind it?
23:27
@Unihedron The question appears to be more about the meaning of "spam seed" in the context of StackExchange, though I agree that it's 50/50 on which side of the fence it should go.
@Polynomial Shouldn't MSE be the migration target then?
Even then they'll probably just migrate it back.
@Unihedron Meh. I think it's ok where it is and isn't causing a problem by being there, and is probably best answered by Sec.SE folks.
as I say, it's 50/50 as to if it should be meta or main anyway.
@Polynomial The keyword here is "probably". The answerers of that post are active on MSE and practically were their first posts.
shrugs
I don't really mind what happens to it. I'll leave it to mods to decide.
@Polynomial I don't think so. In fact, it would either be on main or MSE from my perspective, since Meta Security is for discussions about Security itself, which it simply doesn't belong.
23:30
flag as bad migrate and let a mod fix it then :]
The question included a picture and it didn't even cover the Security site design. :P
@Polynomial I will do it later if the mod did it by mistake, not by rationale.
23:50
also, just hit my 600th answer.
