I wrote a small piece of code that I believe should have succeeded if tail recursion was optimized, however it blew up the stack. Should I conclude PHP does not optimize tail recursion?

@ManishEarth PHP is interpreted as well. But that's not really the point. Tail recursion is just a silly compiler/interpreter trick that converts a nested function call to something more like a GOTO to the top of the current function, plus bookkeeping, etc. You can implement it anywhere.

Actually that might be just annoying enough to prevent most PHPers from doing their SQL with string concatenation. We might just be able to fix SQL Injection in PHP!!

@TerryChia IMO installing the compiler/runtime/... and finding a good IDE is one of the bigger parts of beginning with a new language. Doubly so with python, since you also need to be careful about python2 vs python3.

@TerryChia No, you should not. It's basically "What very general kind of PC+OS combination do you have?" If you don't know that, you're gonna have a bad time.
@TerryChia That still implies a complete lack of introduction to the fundamentals. You have to learn how to use a computer before you learn to write software for one.
