@ton.yeung You mean before :'(
@LucasKauffman Still shooting after putting it back together?
@Adnan aye
@LucasKauffman Way to go!
Lucas randomly comes in outta nowhere.
@ton.yeung with eunuchs they only cut out the balls
@Griffin Lucas always randomly comes
17:01
@Simon Where do you work simon.
Wrong comes that one is spelled "cums".
@Griffin But that's not what I meant!
Oh! How vulgar!
Shit Scott is here. Gotta stop talking crap now.
@Iszi Also @Xander, @Griffin, @jrg, and @this.josh though he doesn't often come hang out anymore. Technically I suppose @ThomasPornin.
@Griffin Seriously?
@ScottPack I thought @ThomasPornin was Canadian?
jrg
jrg
@ScottPack yes?
17:03
Wait who what?
@Griffin Engineering automation company, why?
jrg
jrg
SOMEONE PINGETH ME.
I'm not working atm though.
@Iszi Which is in North America.
jrg
jrg
I DEMAND A ANSWER. OF SORTS. Please?
17:04
@jrg Nice response time!
@Simon Idk I thought you had an IT security related job?
@jrg Go back to your hole Sheldon.
@Griffin Nah
jrg
jrg
Ok, time to reset the Sheldon timer.
I'm a developer
17:04
@ScottPack Broadening the definition of American a bit, aren't we?
Wait what about @ThomasPornin he's here a good deal.
@jrg @ScottPack did it. It's all his fault. (Pointing finger)
@Simon What do you develop?
@Iszi To being someone living in, or being from, America? Not really.
@Xander Careful where you slip that finger.
17:05
@jrg You represent Americans here... that's what @ScottPack said, it could as well be set in stone :)
I am American :(
@ScottPack YARLY when you stretch "America" to include any continent with "America" in its name, as opposed to the more colloquial definition of just the U.S.A.
@Iszi Oh shut up everyone knows what we're talking aobut.
About.
Internal software (web, Archive software)
@Iszi The hubris of the USA never ceases to amaze me.
17:06
Sometimes I configure servers
stuff like that
@Griffin Aboot
@ScottPack Yes aboot.
Hold on. I need to chew up all my ram launching a VM so I can launch the vSphere client because VMWare is a terrible company.
:/ What does your day consist of doing? Throwing information around into different places?
@ScottPack Sure.
Time for me to go get my daily dose of caffeine, guarana, taurine, and Vitamin B12.
17:08
@Iszi I'm drinking coffee and eating Smarties. Does that count?
@Iszi Red Bull?
@Iszi tap water?
Oh, I forgot ginseng.
@Griffin Starbucks Doubleshot Energy
Can't stand Red Bull outside of mixed drinks - even then, just barely.
It's like Jager that way.
@ton.yeung I thought it was spelled canuck.
Oh, I'm not making any value propositions. I've just always wanted an excuse to use that gif.
Better?
@ScottPack just wanted to point that out LOL besides, it's "self-inflicted racism" which is completely PC
it might be less PC nobody was disputing it, though :)
17:17
@TildalWave Do you even have racism in 5th world countries?
@ScottPack sure... every hill is a country here
@ScottPack Shouldn't it be "That's lacist!"?
So she's from Boston?
Not.
@ton.yeung Just because someone can pronounce things doesn't really guarantee they'll be making much sense... I mean, look at @ScottPack, he's been spewing random GIF animations out of his temp folder ever since he turned off that VM and has enough RAM to play with :)
@TildalWave I'm searching for the gifs off images.google.com thank you very much
17:24
@ton.yeung Not at all.
jrg
jrg
@TildalWave Americana i be!
@ScottPack So, images.google.com is your temp folder?
@Iszi looks more like DMZ is his temp folder
Bostonian accents are non-rhotic and tend to have very broad A sounds. They also tend to add an 'R' to the end of words that contain certain sounds. For instance, "idea" -> "ideer"
@Iszi Sure. I'll go with that.
@Iszi Just like those bears I keep posting. I just google "bears gay culture" whenever I want to pull them up.
@ScottPack Yeah, you keep saying that yet I'm not sure anyone believes it...
@ton.yeung @ScottPack - Archetypal Bostonian accent: cisco.com/web/ordering/ciscocapital/media/commercial_vod/…
@ScottPack Ha! Beat me.
@Xander That's a good one, but his is rather soft.
The audio quality is much better than that youtube vid.

Found a photo of @LucasKauffman :)
@ton.yeung if I had to guess I'd say that's the Martha's Vineyard accent :)
Found this linked in the above YouTube vid. Pretty good job on most accents.
Martha's Vineyard (Wampanoag: ) is an island (including the smaller Chappaquiddick Island) located south of Cape Cod in Massachusetts, known for being an affluent summer colony. Often called just "The Vineyard," the island has a land area of . It is the 58th largest island in the United States and the third largest on the East Coast of the United States. It is also the largest island not connected to mainland by a bridge or tunnel on the East Coast of the United States. It is located in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, as a part of Dukes County, which also includes Cuttyhunk, as w...
@ton.yeung dunno about that but a lot of posh movies about wine & philosophy of life were staged there so I though he's a natural fit
17:50
@ton.yeung Yes.
Holy shit! What's with the Facebook?
@TildalWave Lucas wouldn't drink that shit
At least I hope so
@Adnan I've never drunk it TBH so I dunno

> In December 2003, parent company Diageo caused controversy[1][2] by halting the production of Cardhu single malt and replacing it with a blended malt which they labelled a 'pure malt' using the same bottle design and label as its single malt. This was done in order to keep up with increased demand for the whisky, particularly in Spain, as well as for use in Johnnie Walker blended whiskies.
yar doesn't sound that good
I think I should go post this to /r/shitredditsays for troll value:
18:04
"fishing attack on my phone no"
LOL
@Simon not sure grammar alone would do it tho
what I was actually looking for was this:
to post as a comment on that guy's question
@TildalWave Yeah, he seems to be confused.
How do you type like that and don't even feel bad about it?
@Polynomial Brings lots of memories
@Simon if you learn to read off items in your fridge

Yay! @RoryAlsop gets to play regular user today!
NO NO NO NO NO!!!! I've just Googled define:literally. I'm so disappointed I literally killed myself.

@Iszi I like it when that happens
@Adnan You're too young to die!
@RoryAlsop I've just been editing that "answer" when you converted it into a comment LOL... can you update it with corrections?
> It's off-topic. Anyway, read this and you can take a good decision. It's a spam message sent by someone in Nigeria, or some other country. So many people are involved in this kind of stuff. The main aim of this kind of people is to cheat people and get some money. So don't reveal your personal information to them. If you reveal your personal details to them, you have to face a lot of consequences...
@TildalWave will do :-)
sorry
it was flagged - I responded
18:13
@Simon and too awesome
@RoryAlsop oh no problem, it's a crap answer anyway :)
@RoryAlsop For me? How sweet.
@Iszi lol
"Nigeria or some other country"
Sometimes an entire page is just crap - so the hammer gets very close to OBLITERATE!
:-)

@RoryAlsop Y'know, some day you should give a BSides talk in full Doktor Mayhem gear. That'd be awesome. Dunno if anyone's ever told you that.
@Iszi hahahahahaha - right then. That's one to think about
@RoryAlsop Sorry. ADD attack.

Or, better, with a *self-imposed* pause. e.g.:

@ton.yeung How can you be stuck anywhere with a 100 Mill? I mean I get it that it's a bit bulky to get through some doors...
But how will 1k help with that? That's how much new doors cost?
18:18
@TildalWave The money is stuck in his anus and he needs the advance to pay the surgeon to remove it.
@Polynomial I vote for that money to stay put! We don't want no a$$plode!
Who has gone on a starring spree?

@ScottPack Your tweet confuses me. Are you meaning to imply that all people with WP8 phones use Facebook?
@Iszi I think you should go read it again.
@ScottPack link please
18:20
@ScottPack Then I'm just more confused than usual.
I'll follow you if I can remember my password
Whatever you do, just please don't feed the anti-WP8/anti-anyone-not-on-Facebook troll.
@iJohnNelson Your statement seems to imply that other people have a WP8 phone. Talk about misleading.
You see, I'm commenting on the fact that he's implying that there exists people other than himself with WP8 phones. Which we all know is misleading.
Scott Pack is on Twitter and I'm not following him? Gotta fix that.
@ScottPack hahaha. The Nexus Fairy has at least one :-)
18:22
@ScottPack He doesn't have a WP8 phone. He's a total Apple fanboi.
More than likely, his tweet is meant to be obtusely referring directly to me - being one of the few (if not only) people he knows with a WP8 phone, and also one of the few he knows who is not on Facebook.
Why does anyone ever complain about sugar rushes & caffeine highs? We all know it's the inevitably ensuing crash that's the worst part.
@Iszi I would need to either have pre-recorded voiceover, use the medium of mime, or do the entire thing using heavy metal riffs..... might work <shrugs>
@RoryAlsop I vote for metal riffs.
Windows Phone == You work for Microsoft
@Iszi I usually play in Drop D tuning - C might leave the strings a bit flappy. I'll end up sounding like Korn.
@Iszi Oh, now that just makes me look stupid :-)
@RoryAlsop You know I only do it 'cause I love you.
18:27
Anyone fancy some quick edit rep - this guy's answers need some grammar work, and a comment to help educate:
@Iszi of course ;-P
@RoryAlsop Sure it's just grammar work? The one I've seen from him wasn't even an answer.
@Iszi I removed that one :-)
Oh - someone has edited the phishing txt question
Like, what do we do with this one?

A: Is it possible to write shellcode in C++?

Jijo JohnYou can choose any programming language which is converted into machine language for writing shell code.Any way iam not teaching you computer science theory .There are plenty of tutorials available on the internet .. Here is thread discussing about writing C++ shell code - Here

Seems there's a bit of an attitude problem possibly hiding there too.
good point - I'll edit that, move to comment and leave a message for him :-)
Also, ambiguous third-party anecdotal evidence as support for an answer?

@ScottPack hmmm where does Chris Andrè Dale seem familiar from? What's he known for?
@ScottPack Well, looks like I was right. So predictable.
@TildalWave google says Sharecat Security Officer
@Iszi Ah, that makes more sense.
@RoryAlsop oh SANS yup that might be it
@TildalWave He's wearing a Sec.SE shirt
18:34
@ScottPack linky?
@ScottPack LOL c'mon that can't be one's best achievement
his twitter profile pic
@TildalWave yay! Sec.SE goodness
wonder if he is on here, or got it at a con
@RoryAlsop now if we could only match him with a nickname here ... :?
@ton.yeung All the ones I have been to since Sec.SE first started...except RSA/BSides SF in 2011 - the T-shirts hadn't been printed then
BSides/BlackHat/Defcon/RSA/Infosec/SecuriTay
18:38
@TildalWave and nearly a 10k!
@ScottPack hahahaha - ninja-ed
I need to restart Chrome. It's quite sluggish
@RoryAlsop yes but I'm off the hook because his last answer is from before I registered here... dunno how come you didn't recognise him tho :P
@ton.yeung GenCon...Origins
18:40
@ScottPack that's what happens if you use images.google.com for your temp folder :P
@TildalWave According to Task Manager this tab is taking 1.5GB of ram
@ton.yeung I'm actually a little nervous about how my move is going to work out. I need to find another gaming group.
@ton.yeung I may just have to find a FLGS that hosts PFS and do that for a time.
@ScottPack ~ 270 MB here... but I only run about 5 plugins
@ScottPack You should move down here and we could start one. I'd like to get back into that scene sometime.
@ton.yeung I have a weekly group where we play Pathfinder RPG, think Dungeons and Dragons with some updates.
@ScottPack "Dungeons and Dragons with some updates" - Isn't that just DnD4e?
18:43
@Iszi I've given some thought to an online game.
@Iszi Fine. D&D 3.5 with some updates.
@ScottPack Those can certainly be interesting. Have you checked out some of the attempts made in Role-playing Games chat rooms?
One of my friends did a playtest of DNDNext at Origins. It seems like it'll fix a lot of the problems that drove people away from 4e.
@ton.yeung Sometimes smartphone/tablet apps (or even laptop apps) are brought in to assist. As well as maps, minis and occasionally 3d models. But mostly just pen & paper. Oh, and of course dice. Lots of dice.
@ton.yeung I learned how to play that with nothing more than some dice and a character sheet. Now we play with figures and a map.
@ScottPack ORLY? I actually kinda liked 4e, though I wasn't a fan of the Essentials updates. Then again, I got my start in 4e.
18:46
Guys
What's the install shit for tar.bz
@ton.yeung You're referring to the dice with the spots on them? Rarely used in TTRPG scenes - even for D6's.
@Iszi 4e isn't a bad game, but it was a very different design philosophy from the older editions. They were trying more to emulate the MMO feel in an effort to bring in more younger players.
tar.bz2
@ScottPack I would say, for at least this one case, they succeeded then.
@ScottPack Sec.SE and Chat.SE are always the biggest culprits for me when Chrome starts slowing down. I try to restart them regularly, because they seem to love to climb up over 1GB.
18:47
@Griffin That's just a file archive, just like a zip file on windows. You don't install a tar.(bz2|gz), you unpack it. There may or may not be an installer contained within.
A die (plural dice, which can also be used as the singular, from French dé, from Latin datum "something which is given or played") is a small throwable object with multiple resting positions, used for generating random numbers. This makes dice suitable as gambling devices for games like craps, or for use in non-gambling tabletop games. An example of a traditional die is a rounded cube, with each of its six faces showing a different number of dots (pips) from 1 to 6. When thrown or rolled, the die comes to rest showing on its upper surface a random integer from one to six, each value bein...
There isn't.
@Iszi A lot of players left 4e when Pathfinder came out because they felt that the 4e gameplay was too simplistic or the design was too chaotic.
@ScottPack I know it's not installer but I'm pretty sure there is a way to do the install stuff when there isn't an installer
@Iszi I was annoyed with the fact that so many of the powers had a laundry list of pretty specific conditions for it to work.
18:49
@ScottPack Maybe I'll have to pick it back up when Next is actually released. Hope they keep Shardminds and Psionics around. I loved playing mine.
Nvrm I got the install instructions...
@Iszi These days there are over 7500 powers. Each one slightly different and requires a different set of conditions for it to be of use. That's just crazy.
Right, I've updated my Twitter's following list, now all I have to do is actually follow Twitter :)
@ScottPack I'm not sure I ever really ran into that. Or, if I did, other powers were available at the same level which did not have such restrictive prerequisites.
@Iszi it got worse as you leveled, and as they added more classes.
I really liked the addition of Passive Perception/Insight, the healing surges, and the area of effect rules. Those three things really added a lot.
18:51
Ah, now I'm remembering some really good sessions - and I didn't really play that much to begin with.
Crap. Now you've got me wanting to return to a hobby that will cost me money again. Why'd you do that, @ScottPack?
Attempting to calculate the AoE for things like cones were a mess because they were a different shape depending on how you directed it.
@Iszi What you talkin bout, Willis? Buy a core rulebook, some minis if you need to, and have fun!
@ton.yeung Getting books, figs, dice, subscriptions to online libraries & software tools, etc.
@ton.yeung Fig, as in short for figurine.
Though fig newtons wouldn't be a horrible choice for a snack.
It's not as much fun.
For me.
In WoW, can you set an oil slick trap for the next mob that comes through the door to slip over, only to have you telekinetically drag him back into it and then telekenetically drop a flaming log from the nearby filreplace on top of him, setting him on fire?
It's also a good social experience. My weekly group is very beer and pretzels. We really enjoy playing the game, but we spend 1/3-1/2 of the time also chatting and having fun. Also beer.
19:00
@ton.yeung Or, could you telekinetically pull a goblin onto a bear rug that turns out to be a pit trap and watch him get eaten alive by the swarm of rats at the bottom of the pit?
I've had some good times in DnD.
Ubuntu isn
Another good time: The DM set up a scene that was supposed to essentially put the players in a game of Frogger. I chose to bypass the whole situation by taking advantage of the fact I was a Shardmind. Having no need to breathe, and a body denser than water, I just sank to the floor of the river and walked across.
Ubuntu isn't in this list is it? :
Fedora Core
Debian
Mandriva
Open SUSE
Gentoo
MeeGo
android 2.2 (froyo-x86), etc.
Of course, pissing off the DM by circumventing his creatively-planned challenge only leads to him coming up with even more creative ways to kill you. I barely made it to shore by the time he finally managed to do it.
@Griffin you know you can edit your previous message by pressing the up arrow :-)
19:06
@Griffin What's the list supposed to represent? Ubuntu is a Debian fork, so that may be useful information.
THAT kind of party
Someone linked to it in FB.
Far more entertaining than I had originally expected.
@ton.yeung It's a perfect metaphor what I do every day at my job. Fix disasters created created by idiots.
19:21
@tylerl lol Romanians... go figure :)
@Iszi Yes that's useful. It's the OS compatible list for this driver.
@Griffin Ah. So, yeah. I would say it's worth taking a shot on Ubuntu then. Then again, I'm not really a Linux guy. @ScottPack?
Ubuntu is a downstream product from Debian.
It's also a Mark Shuttleworth abomination.
19:46
Sure. But it has helped increase uptake of Linux in general (always a silver lining)
@RoryAlsop Oh, granted. It's just unfortunate that so many things end up being Ubuntu specific.
20:02
Linky?
And an explanation. What is a lightning bike?
Ah. Now that is very cool. And utterly not what i would buy, as I am far too stupid when on 2 wheels and would die at the first corner. ..
I have my big old (mostly stationary) Super Tenere
@ton.yeung they are good fun. Wonderfully nippy
@Iszi Neither am I. It's Linux mint which is based on Ubuntu which is blah blah blah
Guys after a make install do I just reboot?
@RoryAlsop WANT
@RoryAlsop Shit, I should have bribed you to borrow that. It would have had a windshield unlike the bike I hired in London.
@JeffFerland heh
@JeffFerland is lovely - 13 years old now, and needs a bit of work, but that's a project for the summer with the kids
20:21
@Griffin unless you just compiled a kernel, no, why would you reboot???
@Gilles I have no clue what the fuck I'm doing
3
But I think it just worked
@ton.yeung the real news there is how crappy the redbull.tv coverage of Sebastian Loeb's record breaking Pikes Peak run was, those comentators were the last to know his run time... while others behind them were already congratulating each other, they were still "waiting for the final time" :)
@RoryAlsop damn I love those bikes
and Transalp :)
20:37
@TildalWave Yeah, that could have been a lot better. Still an amazing run.
@ton.yeung motorbikes are generally very cheap
not that lightning, admittedly
@Xander Yes, that's why I watched it all, even though I've seen parts of it before... and funny, it's been at least a few years since I've been playing simulations of that run, and I still remembered nearly all the turns :)
but many are cheaper than a set of tyres for my car
VMWare is now officially on my shit list. The Host Image Profile (OS kernel/version) never changes from the time you install the system.
@ScottPack eh? what about when you just upgrade a kernel as normal
does it not reflect the change?
20:39
@RoryAlsop No. It does not.
gaaah
why wouldn't they do it
For ESX the kernel version isn't really any different from the OS version
it's not like the info is hard to get
Profile Validation Result
Compliant: true
Host Image Profile: (Updated) ESXi-5.0.0-20120302001-standard
VIBs in Host Image Profile Only:
Validation Profile: ESXi-5.1.0-20130402001-standard
VIBs in Validation Profile Only:
That says that while my ESX instance has a version number of ESXi-5.0.0-20120302001-standard I'm really running ESXi-5.1.0-20130402001-standard
@ton.yeung play your cards well my son - marry a wealthy one ;)
@ton.yeung there go my dreams of you sending your private jet to collect me for our yearly DMZ gathering on Bali :(
@ton.yeung it's a long sail till there ;)
20:49
@RoryAlsop So the only real way to see what I'm actually running is to run a validation report against the update zip file. How lame is that?
21:28
Any recommendations on what to do with this (crypto.se) question, if anything? crypto.stackexchange.com/questions/8957/…
22:06
@Michael This would be probably better asked in crypto chat but SPORE is in my opinion what you're after, it is after all an Open Repository and you can submit new protocols you feel should be included. Personally, I don't know of any other lists of security protocols that wouldn't be limited to a specific subset (e.g. network security protocols), and meet your requirement...
...but, here's @ThomasPornin and he should have a lot better ideas where to look for such compiled information
@TildalWave Well, in practice, the question does not arise as such.
When trying to find algorithms for practical use (as opposed to making research), one looks for standards.
@ThomasPornin Ha! You see, this is so simple explanation I haven't even considered it. Yes, it makes sense :)
*perfect sense
