@Simon I concur
now look, when there's no drama, chat is quiet
also apparently the things I chat about are boring
so somebody else can choose a topic
weens
I can't believe that what I chat about is boring but chatting about weens is not boring
These earbuds are so freaking bass dry.
WHERE'S MY LOW END
2
I need some help
user11842
13:12
@JukEboX I'm watching this. I want to see if this goes down the same way it does in the C++ lounge.
@Simon you're sat on it
@TechnikEmpire hm?
@TechnikEmpire If asking for help gets you flamed?
we could talk about the new Killer app. for VR that's coming out soon...
user11842
@JukEboX yeah lol
It is known that anybody who does C++ is a bad person anyway.
13:13
I know I can't wait
user11842
@Simon Being that I "do" C++ and am a bad person, I agree with you.
there are three lines of people in here
why is this happening
this used to be one and a half lines at peak time of which half were afk
and now this
I transferred one of my websites from my hosting (Running PHP 5.6 and MySQL 5.5) to a new hosting running (PHP 5.6 and MySQL 5.5).
@TechnikEmpire Seriously, who wants to deal with pointers?!?
> PHP
^ problem found
13:15
The site on the new hosting is throwing index and fetch errors but on my the old hosting everything works correctly
The new hosting is a complete 1 to 1 carbon copy
called it
user11842
@Simon But it's so much fun being passed a raw nerve ending into your hardware and not knowing for sure what will happen if you poke it.
@kalian thanks for you help. Much appreciated
yw
unfortunately you haven't provided enough information for actual assistance
@JukEboX Is the local IP the same as before?
13:16
Local IP of the MySQL Database @Simon ??
Of the machine hosting the MySQL, yes.
databases don't have an IP address
Maybe you binded the service on a specific IP and now it's a different one.
Otherwise I have no idea, I'd need to see the actual error/infrastructure.
@Simon The old DB used to be localhost the new connection is to MySQL.newhosting.com
@Simon The database is working and is pulling the data
can you connect to the mysql instance with the credentials and connectivity details the application is using
inb4'd by @JukEboX :(
sad day
13:18
@JukEboX Where are the errors seen?
in the web browser
@kalina :D
@kalian yes I can. I am able to get into the phpmyadmin as well as it shows pulling the data on the page
@JukEboX so your page starts to render and then errors?
@kalian it renders but shows MySQL WARNING errors on the places it is having trouble referencing
13:19
so do you fancy showing us some of these errors?
Did you google the exact error message?
@kalian I am trying to get to them from here but work internet blocking me. Bare with me
I wish you would spell my name right at least once
@RоryMcCune Saw it. Not surprised, really.
@Simon I did but nothing really helped me without rewriting all my code. I don't have time for that and if it is working on my old hosting then it should work on my new hosting
13:21
@kalina, I like how he keeps not highlighting you
@JukEboX Well clearly there's something different on the new site.
@kalina I typing you name in using @ and then tab on your name. It shows @kalina but when I press tab it changes to @kalian
@JukEboX have you considered perhaps rewriting all of your code? You know... in a good language?
user11842
@JukEboX It doesn't really work that way. I can have two machines with the same php and mysql and have them configured to function wildly different from one another
@JukEboX are you using Microsoft Edge?
13:22
@Simon @TechnikEmpire I am trying to figure out what is different. I haven't changed much of anything in the php.ini file so it should be all default.
@kalina still bashing on the PHP? one PHP bash is free per PHP "developer" and chat account per hour, not more;)
@kalina no Google Chome
@kalina pls no-one uses edge
@SmokeDispenser sorry you don't make the rules
@RоryMcCune I used Edge all of yesterday
13:23
@kalina Sounds like according to roro, you're no one.
@Simon @TechnikEmpire Anywhere specific I can look to compare my php and MySQL configurations other than the php.ini file?
@Simon p.l.s stop stirring somon
@Simon wow that really hurts I shall cry now :'(
@kalina everything else is just hitting people already on the ground;)
:D:D:D:D
13:24
@Simon meany
@SmokeDispenser no a true PHP developer is oblivious and thinks you're laughing with them
HEY I'm not the one who said it
user11842
@JukEboX I think fully enabling debugging is a start and specific error messages
@Simon I guess not all canadians are bad... well played...well played
@kalina :DDDD
13:24
@kalina wait you are not laughing with me?
user11842
@silverpenguin I'm Canadian. I'm sorry.
er... o;)
@TechnikEmpire I will try and get some errors to show you later today. I am sure that will help a lot more
(that's a halo)
MEAN CANADIAN MASTER RACE
13:25
haha mean canadians
there's no such thing
@TechnikEmpire man, we could have been friends, why did you have to fess up to having a flappy head and beady little eyes
@kalina yea! canadians are just a myth
don't forget fart jokes
user11842
@silverpenguin lol I've never heard of that before
user11842
@silverpenguin Allow me to apologize for not getting your joke
@TechnikEmpire He's referring to Terrance and Philip from SP.
13:27
@TechnikEmpire you....you.... are just apolgising this much to mess with me right?
user11842
@Simon Oh, Television. I just puked in my mouth a bit.
oh, you weren't being sarcastic?
I've just lol'd for no reason
what a waste of a lol
user11842
@kalina About? I'm sorry you wasted a lol. Can I get you a new one?
13:28
@TechnikEmpire Are you in the West?
user11842
@Simon Ontario, the butthole of buttholes
I see.
@TechnikEmpire don't worry I have no doubt my lol will be fully recharged by the time I next need it
user11842
@kalina Oh goodness this is great news. I can sleep better today.
@TechnikEmpire cant tell if being sarcastic or if just 100% canadian
13:31
... Or maybe BOTH!!!
user11842
@silverpenguin Both? None? Whatever one is acceptable?
Acceptance is overrated.
@TechnikEmpire another canadian... what is this place all aboot, you're like the 4th one!
@Simon control your fellow canadian
He does not need to be controlled, he's doing very well on his own.
user11842
13:31
@RоryMcCune Oh man nobody says aboot. lol
It's okay @Rоry - we've stolen one. If we can get him to change his name appropriately, all is good :-)
@Simon he is too polite for this room :P
he might bring up the DMZ standards
we cant have that
@TechnikEmpire pls I've seen TV I know how it goes it's all "aboot" and fur trappers and people crushing other people's heads
wat
user11842
@silverpenguin I was going to say something really ignorant to this, but not sure if ban hammer will come down.
13:32
@RoryAlsop good call we should remind him of that requirement
@TechnikEmpire nahh say it come on! do it
@Simon please tell me you know about the kids in the hall
tempts like the devil
@RоryMcCune I'm sorry </canaduh>
user11842
@RоryMcCune You're actually right, I'm currently wearing the last bear that ponied with me while I was out sculpting the raw landscape with my bare hands.
13:33
dayum.
I FOUND SOMEONE WHO WILL BITE THE BULLET FOR ME
YAAAAY
Heh heh heh (sniggering into my hands)
user11842
lol
13:34
@Simon dont put your self down like that, we wouldnt have questioned if you said something bigger than a bullet
@Simon Pointers aren't that bad. And C++ added references as well
@RоryMcCune jeeeezus
user11842
@RоryMcCune never heard of this show.
oh warning that last video is likely NSFW
@TechnikEmpire canadian sketch comedy show, it was/is famous
@TechnikEmpire That's because we have standards.
user11842
13:35
@RоryMcCune yeah, I was lying.
Oh.
@Simon ha, looks like it's just you
Screw you then.
@TechnikEmpire it does seem to be a frequent fear today, don't worry though, the regulars don't really raise flags in here
so even if you do get banned, it doesn't mean the active majority dislike you
Adi
Adi
OH MY GOD! I feel soooo stupid right now
13:36
@kalina Frequent fear is also a nickname of my ween.
Adi
Adi
Copy the content into a .html file and open it in Chrome
@Simon actually you remind me of this kids in the hall sketch!
Adi
Adi
I've never doubted that what is inside the double quotes would be considered a string
@Simon why would it incite fear on a regular basis?
Edge 14291 has extensions guys
Adi
Adi
@Simon You're the HTML guy. WTF, dude!
13:38
@Adi That's funny.
That's actually really weird.
It literally ignores the first quote.
Adi
Adi
Of course, it makes perfect sense. The only way the parser knows where JS is is by looking for <script>
as opposed to figuratively ignoring it?
Adi
Adi
and it sees it's closed
So, of course it'll assume the script has ended
but still very counter-intuitive to me
Which shows me how my intuition is wrong
Thus,

OH MY GOD! I feel soooo stupid right now
is it counter intuitive though?
It's a really honest mistake though.
Adi
Adi

Which shows me how my intuition is wrong
surely whatever is parsing it would be navigating by tags first and then execute whatever it finds after it has parsed the contents between the tags?
I mean html is a tag driven language
Adi
Adi
I'm embarrassed that I thought it was counter intuitive
why would it work any other way?
#howToParseDOM
Adi
Adi
@M'vy Umm
:D
user11842
13:41
@kalina I thought this was never going to happen
Adi
Adi
Now you should be embarrassed
@Adi So, if you want to avoid it, the solution is to escape the slash?
I don't really care actually
I guess if you're coming from a proper development background you'd be potentially treating the html as the end goal and are used to the code executing first
Adi
Adi
@M'vy Cool
@Simon I actually don't know. I'll test
13:43
I bet there is kind of "error recovery" thing going on in your problem
@Adi Yeah it works.
did not even ran it
Adi
Adi
@Simon Cool
cause browser probably don't want to display "broken" pages and therefore accept any ill-formed HTML.
Escaping > works too, but not <.
@M'vy HTML has been designed to be veeeery forgiving, yes.
13:45
I'd argue on the "has been designed" part, but that'd probably be trolling.
Adi
Adi
I found out when I saw that a URL parameter is being appended to one JS variable. So I tried to "escape out of the string" by using double quotes, but it was encoded
To me, that seemed like a good solution
@Simon surely you mean html rendering engines have been designed to be forgiving of bad html?
Adi
Adi
If you can't close the string, you're good to go
But then the script close tag
You can simple close, open, alert, close.
There you have XSS
firefox does the same "; console.log(test); display btw.
Adi
Adi
Yup. I'd assume that's just proper HTML parsing
Thanks for verifying with me, guys
13:47
I didn't help, sorry
I'd think " would take precedence over the tag, but I guess it does not
Adi
Adi
@kalina I think you did. You challenging some of the statements helped me rethink them
You were very helpful as well. Thank you
15:45:25.606 SyntaxError: unterminated string literal test.html:3:11
No shit Sherlock
@Adi -.-
Adi
Adi
@kalina What?
13:50
@adi var test = '...... </scr'+'ipt>......';
From SO :)
Adi
Adi
Hahahahaha
That's one solution for it I guess
@Adi I think @kalina is unnerved by niceness :)
Adi
Adi
I wasn't being nice. I actually thought her input was helpful
@Adi well that's a nice thing of you to say ...
i.e. you weren't saying it to be nice, but to be accurate, however it was still and objectively "nice" statement
Adi
Adi
Oh, I now see the distinction. Thanks for explaining
13:53
yes my sarcasm detector fails
so rather than react like you're being positive and possibly making a fool out of myself I just react neutrally biased towards negative
I eat boogers
2
ew.
What's up with you and boogers lately Markus?
Adi
Adi
Cool
I already know everything about @MarkBuffalo as a result of some late night facial recognition
13:55
What's his real name?
Really? He left his phone on his desk and the best you could come up with is "I eat boogers" ?
@MarkBuffalo you sir, failed at everything this room stands for
Dammit I missed one
I hope you're proud
13:56
@kalina I have?
;)
WHAT'S UP WITH THE DAMN WINK OVERLOAD LATELY
@MarkBuffalo you left your mobile phone of all things unlocked in public and stepped away from it
No I didnt. I'm making things up for fun
