00:00
yeah dovid wtf?
@DavidFreitag he kinda did today
@DavidFreitag well you see if I were signed to a producer, I'd be a person who sat in the corner giving ideas but not really doing much in the way of making anything
yesterday, by silverpenguin
when you let your arm drop and your punch your self in the goodies
@kalina I'm sure I knew that somewhere...
ah yes, yesterday, damn you UTC
00:02
@DavidFreitag that would be like me telling you that your job is sitting behind somebody else doing the engineering
@TildalWave I was referencing that
going "yeah I like that, needs more solder"
or something
@kalina I mean technically that's part of my job
@DavidFreitag wait. Waiting for airtimes. Like a plebian?
Specifying build processes and reflow profiles etc
00:03
@DavidFreitag Meh, wait a few years and everyone and his dog would have a fairly compatible VR rig out
@JourneymanGeek No I don't have to wait, I can watch whatever I want, but only if it's in my "lineup"
@DavidFreitag I know, and then he posted a pwn hack video where he nearly pwnd himself with all the PII visible in the frames LOL
Basically what channels I'm subscribed to
@TildalWave wut
@JourneymanGeek I don't care all that much, otherwise when I upgraded from my 6870 I would have bought a 980 instead of a 960
@DavidFreitag no it would be if that's all you did, and you never actually did any real work because you're incapable of doing so yourself
00:05
@DavidFreitag was a manatee hacking screengrab video with a) his photo, b) his IP, c)... couldn't bare it any more but I suspect loads more, I was only 2 minutes into it
@DavidFreitag oh, including the system
(I have a 980TI, but so I can reasonably happily run games at 4k)
oh, I guess c) could be that he watches Family Guy
@JourneymanGeek Yeah I mean the VR system itself is only like $650
@DavidFreitag or cheaper
@TildalWave rekt
00:06
I was looking at OSVR, and its ~300usd
dosen't have the same mindshare as the big two tho
@JourneymanGeek Well if I was going to get one I'd get the one @RоryMcCune is getting
but alas
no fancy hardware till I'm employed again
why's it so quiet
@JourneymanGeek why are you still unemployed?
@JourneymanGeek You are unemployed?
@kalina I lost my job, I apply for jobs, I don't really get interviews.
00:15
I know you lost your job
I was here when you announced it
Economy is crap at the moment I suppose, and typically the application -> interview ratio here is shit
@JourneymanGeek Sheeit man that sucks D:
bigsigh
I don't want to go to bed yet, I need to stay up a bit more so that I don't feel tired too early tomorrow
So run around the block
I can't be bothered doing that
that would involve getting dressed
00:36
hey @ThomasPornin
@kalina Yes?
yes?
it's called saying hello
it's what one does when another person arrives
@kalina No person arrived
One does not simply say hello to a bear.
yes there was, he popped up in the list
pls, bears are not immune to fire, I can say hello to a bear if I want
It's a good way to become breakfast.
00:41
fine
netflix then sleep
01:09
I swear this week's time viscosity has been really high. Over 9000 at least.
02:06
@schroeder now we've got 3 people agreeing :>
got home... fell asleep...
it's 10 pm
ugh
well I needed that
02:43
I love the top 2 comment: Occulus Thrift

5 hours later…
08:07
morning
08:27
mornin' all
/o @RоryMcCune
@RоryMcCune I was thinking the same thing the last few weeks on SO, closing requests for libraries that do simple tasks.
e.g. 'that post has taken you longer to write than to just implement it'
the crazy part is that people don't seem to feel that importing libs is a dangerous practice that should be only used if entirely necessary. With package manager security being as poor as it is, it's a risky thing to do...
@RоryMcCune mo'nin'
08:35
indeed.
Morning
morningz
morning
09:00
@silverpenguin the CTF will continue later on today and will be extended until monday!
ALTER TABLE `tbl_name` DROP `COL 14`, `COL 15`, `COL 16`, `COL 17`, `COL 18`, `COL 19`, `COL 20`, `COL 21`, `COL 22`, `COL 23`;
what did I screw up
;~;
backup first!
its a test
@Lighty select whole message -> ctrl + k to format as code
@kalina Clearly I am just to awesome and you all fear me
@HamZa thats good! its been hard to find time over the weekend im glad
09:09
@HamZa no as in, Im not getting the query to work :x
does mysql protect against multiple collumn dropping? o.o
@Lighty you forgot the column keyword
@Lighty ALTER TABLE tbl_name DROP COLUMN COL 14, COL 15, COL 16, COL 17, COL 18, COL 19, COL 20, COL 21, COL 22, COL 23;
or wait... that's probably not MYSQL...
44
A: MySQL Drop Multiple Columns

voidALTER TABLE `tablename` DROP `column1`, DROP `column2`, DROP `column3`;

@silverpenguin hey, no more excuse :P
that worked
thanks :3
been a while since I did MySQL
had to work with Transact SQL in a dodge GUI in Visial Studio for the past year because of school :x
@Lighty if you want to follow the trend, you shall try mongodb :P
@HamZa My NAS will act as a backuplocation soon for a friends systems, and they asked about it too :o
@Lighty nosql vs sql FWIW
09:14
@HamZa You lost me there :x
@Lighty basically it depends on the requirements. You gave me a vague sentence, I gave you a hint where to look
@AviD Ah thanks. I translated the article using google translate and I think it tried to translate the Hebrew variant of that name too.
Put it this way, it didn't make much sense in English :)
and I don't read or speak Hebrew, sorry.
09:30
@HamZa one shall look, and one shall find then :3
10:26

A: How to create a SQL injection attack with Shift-JIS and CP932?

NarfThe devil is in the details ... let's start with how answer in question describes the list of vulnerable character sets: For this attack to work, we need the encoding that the server's expecting on the connection both to encode ' as in ASCII i.e. 0x27 and to have some character whose final by...

the room is quiet this morning
@silverpenguin where's @kalina?
@HamZa you saying she is loud?
@silverpenguin I'm saying this room sometimes orbits around her
wait, is that even a valid verb?
@silverpenguin yes.
10:31
@HamZa yes, although (as a native speaker) the word I'd use would be "revolves".
@diagprov TIL, thanks
@HamZa as a native speaker this would actually sound like you are calling @kalina fat... and she is now going to hunt you down
@silverpenguin more like strong? Whatever haha
Do you even lift bro?
@HamZa i lift bro
10:52
@HamZa I'm gonna tell @kalina you called her fat because you said the room orbits around her, as if she has the mass to have a orbit
>:D
That escalated quickly...
11:06
@Lighty Everybody knows if anyone tried to say this seriously they would be white knighted to death
@HamZa you are going to have to change your name to fernando cortez, grow a mustache, buy a sombrero and hide out in norway
woke up this morning, went to look in the kitchen... the kids climbed up onto the cupboards and found cake.
and now cake is all over the living room, bedroom, the kitchen, etc.
@MarkBuffalo they are learning
haha
11:09
@MarkBuffalo was it good cake?
@HamZa And this is why you prepared statement, right?
@silverpenguin Yes. It was good cake.
@MarkBuffalo true prepared statements wins!
people who strip slashes make me want to kill them slowly with a plastic spork
@MarkBuffalo Read "the bad" part of stackoverflow.com/a/12118602
@MarkBuffalo have you considered punishing them to extreme levels?
11:11
"It gets worse. PDO defaults to emulating prepared statements with MySQL. That means that on the client side, it basically does a sprintf through mysql_real_escape_string() (in the C library), which means the following will result in a successful injection"
@HamZa Hmm, I am not even using mysql_real_escape_string()
@MarkBuffalo Well, there was a time where real escape string was popular to prevent SQL injections
yea, I know
So apparently (in obscure cases) it was still possible to SQLi
It's still popular
11:13
I find it kinda funny that you need to specify that you want to use real prepared statements
@MarkBuffalo why ?
@silverpenguin see?
BECAUSE IT'S NOT RIGHT
@MarkBuffalo I will need more than this to know your reasons :P do you mean people who ONLY strip slash or people who use it with other things?
@MarkBuffalo I'm pretty sure the question "why?" implies that he does not magically see the ambiguous point you've made
@silverpenguin maybe a little bit of both, but mostly those who only strip
11:18
@MarkBuffalo well i type check, strip, entities and prepare
what?
show me the process you're using
in order
1. do
2. the
3. pls
4. dance
That's the process in order.
tbh, you don't want to mess with the data when saving it
you use html entities only when outputting data (to browser for example)
^ that
the only time I'll mess with the data before saving is if spaces aren't allowed before/after
a simple trim, for example
I'll also allow all encodings to be sent to the db for processing >:D
11:23
@HamZa indeed, I Know this but I was just going off an XSS attack i found and fixed
Are you guys babbling about PDO again?
It makes me think that you're all getting aroused by PHP.
@Simon It's mainly getting angry... people are still using strip_slashes() in 2016
@Simon it all started with some sjis sql injection
which is not php-specific
@MarkBuffalo Yes and people are still killing other people for no reason in 2016.
' OR 1=1'--
11:25
@Simon "for no reason"... There's almost always a reason
@HamZa Don't go full on @AviD on me, you got the point.
I don't get the (joke?) about Avid but I got your point
He stretches everything people say.
oh ok
@Simon must ... resist... making... Yo... Momma... Joke... :op
11:27
Hehehe.
hehehe
wow 10 questions in the close queue
@MarkBuffalo im interested in what you would do exactly down to the nitty gritty.... because it sounds like you would use some default catch all, but surely it would depend on what you are needing the data for, to what you do with it?
wot
You're a default catch all.
@RоryMcCune left-pad.io
11:32
@Simon did i make no sense again ?
@Ohnana LOL!
that's genius
00000How hard is it to left pad things anyway?
@Matthew They're node.js devs, do you expect them to be competent?
@Simon I expect everyone to be competent, and am frequently disappointed
@Matthew Poor man.
Maybe one day the cynicism will take over your mind.
11:34
direct quote from donut "this is why JS devs are cancer, and should be purged from the earth"

Q: Should Ersatzpasswords be changed?

Le Kim Trangshould an authentication server using Ersatzpasswords be changed and how to change its password aging policy? Thanks a lot for your help.

wadafa
@Simon my donut
o lulz
the human kind, not my breakfast
He's a dev too?
11:38
yeah
@Ohnana baha
That's kewl.
@Matthew reading the threads about this from HN and similar and the lack of understanding/knowledge about the downsides of including huge numbers of 3rd party dependencies from people who are meant to be professional devs is very sad
@RоryMcCune I hate 3rd party dependencies, so much
@RоryMcCune o der r downsides?!?
11:39
@silverpenguin validate that input is not null, and is of the correct length and format, and in some cases, check white list. Use prepared statement on input. Entities on output
@RоryMcCune Surely you just grab a copy for yourself if it provides something useful?
Adi
Adi
@Ohnana I don't think I've read something better in a long time
initiates a dependencies count request
@MarkBuffalo ok cool so we are on the same page....
11:40
Oh man. The kids trashed my clothes with sugar
∞ dependencies found
How can I get to work... All my damn clothes
@MarkBuffalo vaccuum
@TildalWave fkin_lol, should I waste my time on reading that?
it's dry sugar right?
11:41
@MarkBuffalo phone up work and say you are in grievance, the loss of some good cake
Boy is running around mongo super hyper after spreading cake matter everywhere, and eating until he was bursting full
@Ohnana it's cake. Two cakes. And it's smeared everywhere.
Kids are fuuuuuunnnnn.
@MarkBuffalo o lawd
@Simon your choice, but it explains the concept
i hope your boss has kids and is merciful
11:42
@TildalWave They make a really bold claim in the title.
We are allowed to work from home sometimes
go out an buy yourself pants + shirt?
But I've already done that like twice this week. Sigh
@MarkBuffalo then stop buying cake
11:43
you have only your shelf to blame...get it ....self....shelf..
:D
crickets
tumble weed
tumble weed full of crickets
You're a cricket.
@Simon can i be your conscience?
Nothing can be my conscience.
@silverpenguin kids dragged a booster to the kitchen... Stood on it, climbed up and pulled down the cake in the cupboards... Got them on the ground and mercilessly tormented the precious cakes.... And now my boy is so hyper he's literally freaking out, running around cackling manically, and spreading cake smears everywhere
Well he was. We cleaned it up an hour ago
Problem is, he smeared my pants, and I only have two pairs. One is being washed. Need to buy more :X
... You have two pairs of pants?
Are you a hobo or something?
11:46
@Simon Dress pants. Corporate dress policy
o fkin lol
I can't waltz in with normal pants, of which I have plenty lol
#bigcorps
you have two pairs of pants? are you rich or something D:
Shut top greedy Brit.
11:47
I had three, but recently, one got ripped up
im currently in my office wearing a grey t shirt with a hole or two in it... beaten trainners (sneakers?? ) and jeans
Spotted the guy who spends all his pay check on his car.
@Simon not meh. I have trouble finding long enough pants
@Simon I like to be comfortable
@silverpenguin If new clothes can't be comfortable, it means that you buy cheap clothes.
@MarkBuffalo Go to a tailor.
11:50
@Simon not a real popular profession in the U.S. anymore
I'm sure you can find one.
@Simon hey man, also i spend alot of money on suits..my cheapest suit in the range american $$$ is 500 which i got on a black friday sale when in the U.S ... my most exspensive suit would cost about 1200 $$
I know how to dress B)
i choose not to
o lawd
@Simon I also got a pocket watch to go with my 3 piece :D
@silverpenguin (o lawd)^2
11:52
@Simon I also have a 100% silk tie...
which has hello kitty on it
You may now stop wondering why you're single.
@Simon im single?
she left me?
yh
soz bro
11:54
man she could have text me or something, I had to find out from the canadian ... brutal
@Simon wait actually, what you trying to say? you have a problem with hello kitty?
Why don't you get your car wrapped in pink with a huge Hello Kitty face on the hood?
@Simon yea you have a problem with the hello kitty... I only ever wore the tie once on the jet to see if anyone would notice... no one said a thing
Sometimes, there are words that are better when unsaid.
@Simon you are mean to me
I'm not mean, I'm Simon.
