@CodesInChaos A mainframe is an old server.

With no actual clients.

The idea of a "mainframe" is that there is a single, big computer, and users "connect" through dumb terminals (e.g. VT220).

It is an old concept but most of the security best practices on, say, access rights in computers, come from the mainframe model.

Over the years the paradigm shfit in computer architecture has been from mainframes, to a client-server model, and sort of back to the mainframe /client-server hybrid in the "cloud" model

I have never used an officially released version of 10 so I can't really help you on the power manager side of things

the motherboard drivers shouldn't affect the graphics though, should they? I mean there is no onboard graphics anyway, so surely the motherboard won't shutdown power to the GPU?

Amusingly, I rebuilt my old machine from scratch for Hamish on new disks - took me 20 minutes, everything worked by default, and even adding a new Powerline adapter for ethernet just worked stright out of the box
