So, I see in the help center that asking questions about consumer electronics are generally off-topic. I was considering asking about *why* I was hearing a hum at a particular pair of alternating frequencies in a laptop charging brick. I recorded some information such as the period of oscillation and a spectrogram of the noise produced (showing the frequency of the noise).

Would that be on topic here, at a different site in the Stack Exchange network, or not at all?

Hello!

@fyrepenguin I think dis-allowing questions about consumer electronic repair is off-topic, mainly to thwart an endless number of questions from inexperienced DIY types looking for a quick fix. But one of Stack's pennants is analysis and research, which are very important in this stack specifically. So if you posted the question, especially with spectrogram (prior research and analysis), this would be ok.

@rdtsc Thanks for the feedback! I've now done so here
I figured it was easier to ask in chat whether it was on-topic or not than to go through the trouble of writing it up only to find that it's not even an on-topic question anywhere

I'm not saying this often, but I think I found the coolest YouTube channel. :-)
