afk for bathroom @W5VO, brb

just in time, lol

thanks for letting us know

@Kortuk, I'm not really at odds with the way shopping questions have been handled, but it seems that it is a relevant question for the community.
Any "hard and fast" rule that gets enforced without significant community support all the time has the potential to become controversial
(meaning just an admin closing instead of 5 people)

@w5v0 did you see my response?

just saw it

12:16 AM
felt like it was similar enough to what you are saying that it was worth asking if you had seen it

well... i saw it after I wrote that - I don't click F5 that often

just got a news feed for a question asked 15 hours ago... that is horrible
@w5v0 haha, yeah, i understand

Part of the enjoyment of having "shopping" questions is that you find out about useful parts
Just found out that they make a 3-terminal SMT capacitor specifically for signal bypassing

hmm, interesting

signal goes from end to end, and ground connects in the middle

12:59 AM
@W5VO This has to be done because there are almost no users whom can close.
@W5VO Also, I was told to do that with some of the rules until the community learns them, lead my example.
@W5VO, I think there as been one action I have taken in the last month that was not started by a user flagging it for me.
@W5VO This is an acceptable question though. If someone has a technical problem and gives detailed information and asks about what solutions are available they will often be pointed in the direction of any interesting solutions. Yes, bad shopping questions sometimes get these answers, but to my experience of closing shopping questions, I have not closed one I know of that had "great" answers.
@reemrevnivek, I had no idea you left a note in your profile. To be honest, I had a very very busy couple months and coupled with a large amount of flags I could not keep up with normal operations of site. It was mostly just damage mitigation(often more then an hour a day).

1:20 AM
@W5VO I'd like to think that we're educating users to be more successful when they perform their Digikey searches.
Your response sounds very authoritative and by-the-book. I'm glad that you operate by-the-book as a moderator, but I'm curious what your personal take on the issue is.
Also, there are a few spelling/grammar issues, but I think it would be poor form to do that kind of demi-moderation in an election post :)
@W5VO @W5VO - I think the current mods' policy of letting one or two close votes accumulate, and then adding the authoritative close vote, is a good one. We don't have the traffic or the numbers to get 5 close votes in a timely fashion like, say, SO, so moderator close actions are helpful.
Gah, the middle post is @Kortuk. I've been using Chat for a while, but I still get tripped up by the formatting, character limitations, and time constraints.
The last post is just @W5VO, but it stripped the @Kortuk from the previous one, so I figured I should add '@W5VO' manually.
@W5VO - Sorry if this generated a lot of notifications in your inbox.
@Kellenjb Yup, brought that up yesterday. We can get the raw feed for the site instead of the Twitter feed, or add multiple feeds, or do any number of things that would make the feed more useful.
NickT pointed out that the Gaming.SE feed setup is nice. We could probably just copy over their settings, replacing gaming with electronics.

cool

However, that needs a chat mod, currently Tyblu or Marc Gravell, to fix the setup:

@Kortuk i think you have misread what i wrote. i never said you gave anyone hostility, i was being broad about the community in general

1:35 AM
@Kortuk Wait - you're saying you personally spent an hour a day moderating the site? Wow! I hope we can distribute that among the new mods.

things like comments of "This is a shopping question and will be closed" can be taken very rude. and about them never coming back again... that isnt a universal statement, which is why we have questions in meta of people wondering why their questions were closed

@Kellenjb Anything can be taken rudely, including the act of blatantly ignoring community guidelines and posting questions that get closed. Valuable users will be taken aback that they've done something wrong, discover what they need to do differently, and correct their actions, while less valuable users (those who don't care) will not come back. Sounds good to me!
Well, once again, I have to say goodnight. My truck blew a relay, and needs some new plugs and wires, among other, less pressing maintenance issues...
Adios!

sadly, as i go around looking at closed questions, the issues i have had with responses all go back to a single user, i thought it was more then that

@reemrevnivek You are more then invited to correct my grammar and spelling. I take no offense, to write something I write a first draft, wait a day, edit, wait a day edit, repeat until happy.
@Kellenjb It was directed at me, I had to point out that I do not take that stance, quite the opposite, I have chastised leon multiple times.
@reemrevnivek Mods on the site are mods in chat. I have mod in this room.
@reemrevnivek Tell me what you want, I can try to copy it in a bit when I am not actively working.
@reemrevnivek Ha, yes, if you take a look at the sum of mod action I have 150 actions, and there are many actions it does not count, i believe edits fall in that category.
Danniel has taken 77, 28 in the last month
joby +pingswept = 28
I did not always need an hour though @reemrevnivek, I had days were 5-10 minutes would suffice. I had 2 or maybe 3 days total where there were no flags, I would celebrate by answering something.
3 active mods would fix this. We do not know whom the mods will be yet, I will be relieved either way. Either myself and 2 others or I get to drop mod duties all together. That means a lot less work either way, but I hope for staying on.
@reemrevnivek My personal stance though. That is messy. I have attempted to heavily moderate my personal views in light of being a better mod. I have very strong personal views, but they are normally pretty strongly by the book.
If I was a stand alone user I would fight the shopping questions. I would also fight the IDE questions, but if they stayed, as a stand alone person, I would leave.
But that is hard to say, because I am not a stand alone person, so it is not easy for me to be sure of my stance on this.
My large amount of interaction with the teachers lounge, @ivo especially, have had far reaching affects on my views.
Some of the things I requested on teachers lounge from the powers that be where I was just told, no, you are doing it wrong were pretty disheartening. I have spent hours trying to explain things I want different and to no avail. They are very focused on off site attention, I really wish they would focus on making it easier to show on site users the best content.
I would like a "featured" tag mods could use to feature a couple questions at a time on the site.
anyway, back to work.
@reemrevnivek, on that note, at one point on chiphacker there was a situation where someone asked a question that the "community" did not like, this led to the one moderator removing it. It was a valid technical question, one of the best I had seen, but it was over the heads of many of the users(nothing personal to the users of chiphacker, there were quite a few good users). My comments went unheeded. I think I stopped being an active member for a few months before I returned.

@Kortuk i dont understand why you think it was directed at you, it wasnt at all.

5:13 AM
@Kellenjb You misunderstand me back, you had an @kortuk, This implies a response directed at me, I needed to explain myself or leave people thinking that people consider me rude. I was not phased.

5:54 AM
@Kortuk you took issue with what i said, i responded to you to try to clarify what i said... that is the part that you misunderstood. just because i responded to what you said doesnt mean i am talking about you, just too you.

6:26 AM
@Kellenjb That is where I am saying there is a disconnect. To someone reading the conversation it is directed at me. Not by most, but it was also a valid point. Please do not think I am offended, I was not ever offended. It needed to be said.
Go to sleep also.

Q: Cost of wifi components when bought commercially

SimonBarkerOk, I'm editing this, as per kenny's suggestion below, to hopefully make it sound better .... here goes :-) I am prototyping a potential future product and I am struggling to get my head around the complexities of using wifi components in it. I understand that wifi (or 802.11x) is primarily jus...

Based on his other answers (here: electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/13195/… and here: electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/13873/…), and on the fact that he read the shopping questions on meta and revised his question (Wow! What a novel idea!), I think we should try to help him out.
And, it's a pretty good question as well.

@reemrevnivek, just flag for moderator attention, I agree it should be reopened.
@reemrevnivek, take a look at the new title, update it to be well worded if you can.

@Kortuk Done. Now reads: Can a generic 2.4GHz transceiver be used on an 802.11x network?

Thanks, it seemed to me his target was making his own affordably.
That works.
I just saw your flag, there was a flag from community, I got sidetracked and had not taken action.

1:52 PM
on the person posting an answer that should be a comment.

@Kortuk Good solution to the problem.

that is the only one I saw.
As a side note, someone can see a deleted answer, if you did not know. That way you can leave a message and remove it.

@Kortuk I can't see or delete answers anymore since we graduated from Beta. I think that's a 10k+ thing now.

On a question, this is not true. That is why I leave the questions undeleted @reemrevnivek. They are cleaned up at a later time, it is always why you have to wait to delete a questions
@reemrevnivek, it is
I am teaching what little things I think are important to you in case I am not there to help teach you when you get there.

You'd better stick around!

Holy crap - too many comments to read this morning

@reemrevnivek hahahaa
@W5VO sorry
@W5VO your own fault.
@W5VO one more for the road

2:29 PM
I also still type chiphacker.com to visit the site.
i cannot flag markrages, he does not come to chat.
I am going to bed, later guys.
