@HåkonK.Olafsen I don't actually follow anything about any country, but when I read something I generally really read it, not just skim thru. A thing that I sort of follow with interest is the quarrel in Belgium that has lasted a long time now. They might some day even split into two independent countries, though that is a long shot, nothing to bet your money on.

And I have read about the political situation and tensions in Norway, but I haven't got that memorized and did not know you'll be having an election soon. I'm sure to have an eye for it when I happen to see it mentioned in Finnish newspapers.

@EsaPaulasto I think I would try not to use it when possible – I want to have the constraint of having to foot zoom. But when I come to things like holidays I would bring it along to make sure I don't miss a shot because of not a wide enough lens. Ideally I could have a really wide lens instead and then I could ditch it, but I don't want to just go buying a shit load of lenses before I know how to use them properly

@Toby That 40 mm is 64 mm in film SLR camera, and while it is nice, it is also very narrow FoV for some scenes. I have (not using anymore) a 55 mm prime for my film SLR and got fed up with it when there was a nice landscape or sunset or an indoor birthday party to photograph. With digital it is easy to stitch panoramas, so you'll have it easier with landscapes, but when shooting indoors in cramped small room this focal length allows for one person per photo only.

Now, of course I'm exaggerating a bit, but you get what I mean anyway. Field of view is quite narrow, and this was my only complaint on it. I also had a 135 mm prime too, but no other lenses.

Can I get a 300mm lens worthy of using on a FF camera for $200 <--- what kind of question is that, you want even get a FF camera for that

@TobySeers true, though I'm always a little dubious about that because "foot zooming" also changes perspective

not that it isn't good to get people thinking about focal length

and it's a good way to more cheaply get a fast lens

but foot zooming isn't always the ideal, knowing when to walk and when to zoom is important

but sometimes zooming is the correct action

He is asking if there is a 200 mm lens for $200. So that he would get the 300 mm worth of glass (on an aps-c).

anyone know if there has ever been any thought of including video topics here. Apparently AVP is getting ripped apart and I'm a little bit worried that the video portion is being set out to die a slow painful death

but no, it really doesn't fit with photography, I'm just not sure how it is going to fit anywhere just by itself, video isn't a field by itself

it's camera technique, composition, cinematography, audio, lighting, editing, general production, animation, effects, etc

but when it gets stripped down to me and basically nobody else on the site, that's gonna be rather depressing

I doubt it, now I'll explain less because I'm tired of writing out detailed explanations of complex problems

trying to troubleshoot a performance problem where it runs the same speed between the new and old version on my computer (.33 and .33 seconds, with or without ANTS attached), 4.4 and 7.8 seconds when running on QAs performance box and 10 seconds and 16 seconds when running on the performance test box with ANTS (Redgate's performance analyser) attached

and the differences appear to be that it is taking 1 second to build the result handler for a query in one version and 4 seconds in the latter, but it doesn't take any longer when running on my computer for some reason

sweet, and now one of my local environments is hosed, guess it's time for another 45 minute long SVN pull... :(
