@MichaelNielsen well unless the fungus amongus does them in
@HåkonK.Olafsen see above
that 1:1 crop I said I would put up the other day and then promptly forgot (about the sharpness of the 70-200
in particular, that's ISO 100 at 100mm, 1/2000 f/2.8 on a 5d mark iii

@HåkonK.Olafsen That's cool :) I know Norway has always been wealthy with all the natural resources there is, but now I have to admit I'm mildly surprised you are so well off even today while we've had downhill after another in the European economy. Good work, Norway :)
05:08
@TobySeers I hope you are not plannin to ditch the kit lens though, or the one thing you will be thinking is whyyyy did I let go of that little zoom? ;)
@EsaPaulasto we might be jumping over the edge with both feet first if the election in a few weeks end up as the polls are showing now....
Oh, I have not read about elections in Norway in our newspapers
maybe there has been an article or even many, I just have not noticed.
but I tend to skip the politics section in the paper if I'm not in the right mood for it ;)
not many people outside Norway would bother to follow our elections, we're too few people
but off to work
kk, cya
@HåkonK.Olafsen I don't actually follow anything about any country, but when I read something I generally really read it, not just skim thru. A thing that I sort of follow with interest is the quarrel in Belgium that has lasted a long time now. They might some day even split into two independent countries, though that is a long shot, nothing to bet your money on.
And I have read about the political situation and tensions in Norway, but I haven't got that memorized and did not know you'll be having an election soon. I'm sure to have an eye for it when I happen to see it mentioned in Finnish newspapers.

A new entry level Sony system camera!
quote "Sony A3000 hits a sweet spot: It's small, light, and only $400"
And the same in Dpreview site: dpreview.com/previews/sony-alpha-a3000

@es
@EsaPaulasto I think I would try not to use it when possible – I want to have the constraint of having to foot zoom. But when I come to things like holidays I would bring it along to make sure I don't miss a shot because of not a wide enough lens. Ideally I could have a really wide lens instead and then I could ditch it, but I don't want to just go buying a shit load of lenses before I know how to use them properly

@Toby That 40 mm is 64 mm in film SLR camera, and while it is nice, it is also very narrow FoV for some scenes. I have (not using anymore) a 55 mm prime for my film SLR and got fed up with it when there was a nice landscape or sunset or an indoor birthday party to photograph. With digital it is easy to stitch panoramas, so you'll have it easier with landscapes, but when shooting indoors in cramped small room this focal length allows for one person per photo only.
Now, of course I'm exaggerating a bit, but you get what I mean anyway. Field of view is quite narrow, and this was my only complaint on it. I also had a 135 mm prime too, but no other lenses.
13:47
Can I get a 300mm lens worthy of using on a FF camera for $200 <--- what kind of question is that, you want even get a FF camera for that
14:24
@TobySeers true, though I'm always a little dubious about that because "foot zooming" also changes perspective
not that it isn't good to get people thinking about focal length
and it's a good way to more cheaply get a fast lens
but foot zooming isn't always the ideal, knowing when to walk and when to zoom is important
but sometimes zooming is the correct action
@HåkonK.Olafsen well, the lenses are generally a little bit cheaper than the camera, but yeah, not at all realistic
14:56
He is asking if there is a 200 mm lens for $200. So that he would get the 300 mm worth of glass (on an aps-c).
Ouch, my bad, did not read it well :P
/me goes dizzy trying to figure out which level ND filter he ought to get
15:32
@MattJ maybe we can invent a -1 level ND filter to help with the low light situations ;)
15:51
whoa, I seem to have just made a friend
I just got a huge number of upvotes that will almost certainly get removed later on by the system
System even stopped adding rep points for the last 5 upvotes..
After 100 rep points inside 4 minutes, no more points.
no
after 200
for the day
you can only get 200 rep a day from upvotes
I have 230 for the day because I have two answer marks
16:08
Right, would have been too cool to have it automaticly stop if certain number of upvotes come in in too short time :)
I'm fixated to PhotoSE, which is relatively slow site. Somewhere else a one question might generate more than ten genuine upvotes, 100 points, in a few minutes.

I'm currently making a product at work to be delivered on week 37 of 2013.
Our markdown for that is 1337 ;)
:)
18:11
@EsaPaulasto I have an answer on IT Security that got like 100 upvotes in a day when it hit the super collider
anyone know if there has ever been any thought of including video topics here. Apparently AVP is getting ripped apart and I'm a little bit worried that the video portion is being set out to die a slow painful death
but no, it really doesn't fit with photography, I'm just not sure how it is going to fit anywhere just by itself, video isn't a field by itself
it's camera technique, composition, cinematography, audio, lighting, editing, general production, animation, effects, etc
but when it gets stripped down to me and basically nobody else on the site, that's gonna be rather depressing

2 hours later…
20:20
Bon soir
I'm all for including video here (not that I have any say), if it is related to things you can see (as opposed to audio).
20:34
I hate power outages
just lost about 45 minutes of putting together a report :(
most frustrating part is I have a UPS at home but not at work
That is sad
Maybe the second draft you have to write now will be better?
20:55
I doubt it, now I'll explain less because I'm tired of writing out detailed explanations of complex problems
trying to troubleshoot a performance problem where it runs the same speed between the new and old version on my computer (.33 and .33 seconds, with or without ANTS attached), 4.4 and 7.8 seconds when running on QAs performance box and 10 seconds and 16 seconds when running on the performance test box with ANTS (Redgate's performance analyser) attached
and the differences appear to be that it is taking 1 second to build the result handler for a query in one version and 4 seconds in the latter, but it doesn't take any longer when running on my computer for some reason
sweet, and now one of my local environments is hosed, guess it's time for another 45 minute long SVN pull... :(
oh :(
oh well, at least I'm taking photos in an hour or so
