Heya guys. Does anyone have any experience with MS Power BI? I'm looking to pick somebody's brain.

@Kaz I've dabbled with it.

@BigBen I'm in this position where I do a lot of excel-based data analysis for work. Came across power BI. I'm pretty sure it does things that would blow my mind, but I have no idea what they would be.

So I'll either have to wade through documentation and blogs and youtube videos hoping to come across something, or hopefully find people who've used it before and can suggest which bits I should focus on.

Do you have any suggestions?

Depends what exactly you want to do. Do you do a lot of data transformation? Are you looking to visualize your data differently?

Right now it's a lot of joining data together on unique ID numbers shared across different sources (and occasionally having to create my own keys by concatenating different fields together), looking for gaps in what we hold in various sources, and where we do hold data in more than one place, looking for differences/discrepancies.

Never heard of either.

I honestly would start with Get & Transform...

Can easily manipulate CSV files.

That looks Awesome

It's game changer.

Plus there's overlap with Power BI, if you decide to go down that road.

This feels like it's going to be similar to the time I first found out about Pivot tables, 2 years after I started doing work that could have really used them.

Sometimes you don't know what you don't know, I guess.

Especially when you're the only, and therefore by-default most senior, technical person in your startup.

Eh that's why I'm thankful for this room and Rubberduck. So much personal learning and development because of it.

@BigBen Absolutely. Same with CR in general. I was programming VBA for a couple of years before finding out about the site. Absolutely transformed my learning virtually overnight.

Wish I had more time and energy for more PR.
