OK, do I bid on a somewhat overpriced laptop, just because it's the top of its series? Advantages over my current rig: maybe 40% more CPU speed (same cores / threads), able to take 32GB RAM and an NVMe drive rather than SATA.
OTOH, my current laptop can take an eGPU, which could be kinda fun :-)
@FreeMan quite so... ThinkPads (especially the T ans X series) are pretty bulletproof business laptops. My X230 (circa 2012) has been upgraded with 16GB of RAM and a couple of SSDs, and does fine even with 3 instances of Visual Studio and ReSharper running. The current X is perhaps 50% faster in CPU, but would cost close to £2000 from Lenovo
X230 and X270 are particular gems in the series, some of the other iterations have upgradability issues.
the X240 being a particular low spot (they decided to remove the dedicated TrackPoint buttons...)
