Q: Clue: Tree that's sported to keep visitors out at university (3). Answer: OAK. Why?

BillOAK +S(=s sported) is a racing fixture named after the famous Epsom Derby, The Oaks. I have been unable to relate university or Oxbridge jargon, such as gated or up, to the rest of the clue.

C4 hint: There is more than one D in the answer.
Hm. That hint would have been more useful with the (4) enumeration ...

@Jafe looked it up, found nikoli.co.jp/en/puzzles/dosun_fuwari , and don't understand why the solution is unique. For example, why can't the two circles in the top-left case switch places?
Ohhhh never mind. I thought the cage walls serve as gravity blockers, but they don't.

Sadly, You have only 1 tank, but you can put glass panes inside the tank to divide it, not necessarily into equal parts. There are 2 restrictions. No 2 fish will be in the same area. Eac...

This answer valuably adds the information that the term is still commonly known in Oxford and Cambridge, even if regarded as a bit old fashioned. There's no need to bite the chap's head off when he's trying to be helpful. — Mike Spivey 6 mins ago
Was my comment (which this was a response to) overly harsh?
I don't think you have 'bitten the chap's head off' - you've provided what's really a stock comment response to a duplicate answer, commonly given on other users' posts, nothing aggressive in that.

Perhaps though you could have taken into account that the tone of the answer was a bit more personal-anecdote and lighthearted than a typical dup post, and adapted the comment in the light of that? That's all I can think.

Q: The prisoners and the switch

Angel SachseAfter studying for a math exam some months ago, I fell in an uneasy sleep and had the oddest dream. I dreamt I was part of a company of soldiers captured in enemy territory, imprisoned for weeks. Finally, one day, we all were brought before the prison warden. He offered us a chance to earn back o...
