Q: Longest sequence of two-digit sum replacements

Dmitry KamenetskyYou are given a two-digit number. You can replace one of its digits with the sum of its digits modulo 10. For example, if the starting number is 58 then you can change it to 38 or 53. You can continue changing this number provided that you do not repeat a previously generated number. This means i...

@Stiv can you use "southern" and "beside" in the same clue like that? or does one imply a down clue and the other an across clue?

Q: Solve this QR code riddle please

ParjanyaThis is the image for the riddle. Please solve this riddle. It's a jumbled QR code and you have to rearrange it and tell the link where after scanning it or the image after rearranging it. Hint: It's like a rubik's cube. I will even pay you for this if you answered correctly.

6:48 AM
@msh210 My intention was for 'southern' to imply 'bottom end of' and 'beside' to mean 'place these two components next to each other in the answer'
CCCC hint: The city in question is a capital city.

CCCC: Suck in stomach muscles and go about showing it off! (6)
Apologies for the (temporary) departure from theme!

I really want to say VACCUM but can't figure out the wordplay
Oh wait, it's ABSORB as in ABS: stomach muscles, and go about showing it off: BOR from Borough, which means a town or district in American English, so it means showing off in a town. #BadC4Solutions
Really bad solution for the explanation of ORB

1:27 PM
yeah you can't anagram BOR if there's no BOR in the clue but i'd bet you're right about ABS

2 hours later…
3:20 PM
Well, Anonymous 25 was halfway there, I think: ORB is ORBIT (go about) showing IT off.
@Stiv So: ABSORB = ABS + ORB(it)

aha!

3:38 PM
@MOehm Spot on. @Anonymus25 you were so close!

Darnn

In case anyone here was taking a look at my just posted puzzle, I added a Penpa link. Sorry about forgetting it at first!

Q: Japanese Streams Sudoku

Jeremy DoverTL;DR - it's a puzzle: In a previous puzzle, we presented a puzzle inspired by the recent Japanese Sums puzzle series at Grandmaster Puzzles which combined the Japanese sums cluing technique with a Sudoku, with a little bit of Cross the Streams thrown in for flavor. This puzzle makes this hybridi...

Q: You can count on Sergeant Sequence

Stiv"Ah, Sequence, there you are," said the Chief Investigator as Sergeant Sequence entered the briefing room. "Your man Patrick Terne is on the move again, and we need your help to track him down." "Where's he been this time?" asked the Sergeant, cradling his morning coffee. "All over - a lot of tim...

@JeremyDover really good puzzle! Had to use both restrictions all the way to the very end

@BeastlyGerbil Thanks! I was really pleased with how this one came out. The 16s irritated me as a test solver, since it didn't seem like they helped nearly as much as they should have, but of course you needed them eventually.

CCCC: Second crew is in old vessel (9)

@JeremyDover I feel like theres probably some proper analysis of the 16s you could do to deduce where certain numbers can go, but I almsot like how you don't use them all at once which is what you first think to do

7:15 PM
@MOehm All I can think of is "Second crew's in old cruse", but I assume that's irrelevant.

Huh? Sorry, you've lost me there, I'm afraid. (I guess that means it's irrelevant.)

I guess so. :-)
(A cruse is a kind of vessel. And "cruse" sounds like "crew's".)
@MOehm oh it's s team's hip ("in", old) = vessel
nice clue

@msh210 nice!

Yes, that's it.

I was trying to work out SUBMARINE and CAPILLARY which both suspiciously fit 9 letters

7:25 PM
I was trying catamaran.

(Although I meant the "old" to go with the def. Don't know whether "hip" is really that old.)

Oh. Well, either way works, I think.

Yeah. The poor man's Schroedinger clue. :)
Didn't know the earthenware cruse, by the way. (But cruisehsip would also have 9 letters.)

Q: Puzzle changing edits, new suggestions and better analysis

AnkitDisclaimer: I want to preface this post by saying that I am extremely frustrated right now, but I'm trying to make this a solution based post, and stop this from happening to myself or others on this site. Sorry if it comes off a bit rant-ish though. This problem has been discussed on Puzzling Me...

Q: Trig's amuddle!

msh210As in most cryptic crosswords, each clue here has a wordplay portion and a direct definition. The definition clues the answer that goes into the grid; the wordplay, on the other hand, yields one letter too many. The extra letters, taken in an appropriate order, will spell information that can lea...
