I liked the joke @ffao

1:55 AM
Yay! ^_^

2:53 AM
I was wondering if anyone could help me find a puzzle on this site.
It was a really long time ago 6-7 months ago maybe, but the gist of the puzzle was decoding a song. The puzzle used some sort of decimal encoding that was based on changes in words. You would start with the first word in each line and mark that with a number. Then all subsequent words in that line would be defined by the difference between the first word and that word.

Try or , perhaps

@Areeb There was this puzzle puzzling.stackexchange.com/questions/49570/the-shifted-library that was about shifted books and authors in a library, I did a musical spin off version.. but both of those were only 2-3 months ago

3:10 AM
@boboquack @n_palum thanks for trying, but I couldn't find it among music and the puzzle was definitely way more number oriented than the shifted books one.

@Areeb Did you try ?

Not yet, there's a ton of those so it'll take me a while

@ffao I resemble that remark.

Q: Cryptic Clue Guide

Deusovi This post is not a puzzle. There is nothing puzzly hidden inside it or the self-answer, posted at the same time. What exactly is a cryptic crossword clue, and how do I write one?

Deus created a very helpful guide
rather lengthy one too, which means it takes a while to read but hey, its packed full of info from the master himself :)
also see the resources at the bottom

I will give it a good read now. Thanks. :)

Q: Translate: tool isn't working

MithrandirThe translate: tool available to mods in chat seems to be broken. It refuses to translate things for me: (this was in the sandbox) This has been confirmed to not work very often for other mods in the TL as well. Can we please fix this, if it's not a problem on the Bing side?

I don't need a translate tool for German :P
Why isn't that available to everyone?
I suppose chrome has a translate tool as an extention anyway...

@BeastlyGerbil it used to be
It wound up getting abused, so they made it mod only

6:05 PM
wooooahh. The rep cap has cut off 946 rep for me according to this
Jeez. @Randal'Thor the rep cap has cut of 10k rep for you

Random fact: I've predicted Jon Skeet will get 1 Mill rep on Friday, 10th November. (Just based off average rep per day)

Whats the bet that it will make international news? :P

BBC already has an article on Jon Skeet: bbc.com/news/uk-england-34596634

I think I'll post some comments in my desk for people to go flag, to see if I can get the three flags necessary to nuke a comment just like that.

Q: A warning to the wise - What am I?

indubitablee I begin with deception in the way that I act Then grow in obsession with only the facts. I sometimes yell loudly and sometimes I whisper Some things may confound me but don't let me wither For if I'm neglected in present or past Your life is affected and peace may not last What a...

Bit broad?

6:57 PM
@KritixiLithos o_o that's cool.

7:07 PM
wow. I didn't realise he had a bbc page on him

theres a 'quality' review?
seriously?

> About this queue: This review queue appears periodically on sites to evaluate the overall quality of the Q&A. After a few days, this queue will disappear until it is time for the next quality review.

that seems a bit pointless
and imagine if they had one for SO :P

Q: Let's get critical: May 2015 Site Self-Evaluation

CommunityWe all love Puzzling Stack Exchange, but there is a whole world of people out there who need answers to their questions and don't even know that this site exists. When they arrive from Google, what will their first impression be? Let's try to look at this site through the eyes of someone who's ne...

7:13 PM
what and they just suddenly appear?

Dunno. I've never actually heard of it before.

Tbh it doesn't really apply to Puzzling
We don't need the puzzles to be searchable

I think that was back when the site was about puzzles rather than for puzzles.

They are supposed to be every six months
Oh wait they shut down:

Q: Shutting down recurring community self-evaluations

hairboatWe've been talking a lot about the efficacy of community self-evaluations lately, both internally on the Community Team and out in the open on meta. Lots of ideas were tossed around, but the underlying theme of these discussions has been that site self-evaluations are not useful in their current ...

7:34 PM

8:00 PM
There, tossed something out - should be easy, but at least I'm out of puzzlers block

oooh steganography. My favourite :P

Ohh, cool

@Mithrandir Is the space before the comma in "Yes - that is correct. Yes - I will , and that is final" intentional?

@KritixiLithos no

think I have it already but hey :P

8:02 PM
@KritixiLithos fixed
If this is well-received, I get the ask 30 good questions on different days badge. Hmm.
@BeastlyGerbil like I said - should be easy :P

If I have this correct, How are we supposed to know upper or lowercase ?

I guess you don't then :P

ok. I thought it was morse

Morse doesn't have uppercase/lowercase
It's not imgur

I then thought that gave imgur
^^

8:06 PM
If I win the election, I'll make an that involves smacking Google.
:P

Q: The strange phrases - Clue Thirty

Mithrandir<<---First clue <---Previous clue Aha! You think, and type in the answer. Ding! The pad beeps, and opens a previously-hidden drawer. Inside is what appears to be a... bunch of strange sentences, each written on a separate strip of paper: Yes - that is correct. Yes - I will [ripped], and th...

I find it funny when users comment on random Clues, asking 'when will the next one come out?'...
They're not even always the best puzzles...
@Mithrandir cough still waiting cough :) — Tumbler41 Apr 18 at 19:30

uuuuh. I know those dashes are important but I don't know why
well all I've found that might be anything is that the first words say 'yes no after the what' but that doesn't seem to mean anything
clearly not as easy as you though mith

I think @Gareth might have gotten it

If either COGNON or COCTN were a word, perhaps :-) but no.

8:19 PM
yeah I had morse too
didn't give anything

*laughs*

No 4C still?

(and I have to be AFK for a bit now, so probably someone else will solve it before I figure it out)

whoops, typo, which quote possibly messed you up [embarassed]

doesn't seem to be frequency analysis

8:23 PM
alright, fixed that bad typo <insert embarrassed emoji here>

ooh so the dashes are important

feel free to smack me

I don't know what was wrong so I don't know how bad that mistake was :P

I reversed a couple things #_#

8:40 PM
That latest clue seems to be a bit on the easier side

oh what it was morse code

Yep, morse

but the fourth doesn't match

Sid beat me to posting the answer though
The word "dash" counts

ah
well me and gareth both tried (though before the mistake) and failed so...

8:44 PM
I'm guessing that mistake threw you off, though I can't see what it was

see the revision history
last phrase was other way round
and me and gareth obviously hadn't spotted the 'dash' es

Yes, but had you gotten COCTA like I did it's much easier to suspect the T to be an O
From COCTN I would have been confused as well

Yeah, that was the only hard part of the puzzle. Next one's going to be harder.

yeah me and gareth both got coctn. cocta and we'd probably have got the answer

Like I said, feel free to whack me
*shrug* I'm out of puzzlers block now, which is the good thing from that puzzle

Sid
8:50 PM
So... That was the answer?

I've been stuck for months
@Sid yes, the 'dash' was supposed to throw you off for longer

Sid
How did that last even 45 minutes?

Feel free to downvote; it's not a great puzzle :/
@Sid I honestly have no idea.

anyway night all

Sid
Anyway, I was probably a bit grumpy there. It's past 2 AM and I need to sleep. Have a nice day, folks.
Lol, @beastly we are 5 hours apart yet wishing night at the same time.

8:55 PM
It's midnight here, I'm lying in bed o_o

Sid
Midnight is the best time to look at stars.

Except I'm sick, so I really need to sleep...

Nah, it's not nearly downvote-worthy
That was just meant to be difficulty feedback

Well, I said it was easy - the important thing is that I can think about puzzles again now. Cracked the block!
Anyway, goodnight.

I have an idea for a puzzle but it looks like it's going to take so long to put together :(

Q: What is so weird about it?

L.K.I was going to a place for some summer school(in winter :). But when I first landed on the airport, to attend the school. I just took a random picture, for the memory. However, I later realized something weird in it. The story although true but has nothing to do with the picture. Do you also see...

10:02 PM
@manshu Yeah, that's not a good clue. For one issue, there's not an anagram indicator (unless you count "may", which I wouldn't). For another, "She" is a terrible definition.

Q: Same old New Mathematics

humn Just when you thought the good old days of New Mathematics were safely dusted, here comes another lesson on the similarities of numbers in different bases. For this  lesson  puzzle, 1008 means the digits 100 in base 8, which equals the familiar 64 (in base 10), which itself is represented as 641...
