8:00 PM
My steam profile has me as Jim von Highway, which is just a nickname of mine :P

And my daughter more or less has a Steam profile :P And she is 5 :P

I used this one, for a while, after my ¿
Someone needs to answer TGE's CCCC, ASAP. ;)
@MariaDeleva Yay for family share -- and family mode.

@Khale_Kitha Boo for forcing a library share instead of just the single game...

Very very true

I like the example someone gave online (paraphrase because I don't remember it verbatim) "Steam made it so that instead of loaning the game disc, you have to loan the whole console"

8:08 PM
ugh. my superbowl boxes are pretty bad
5 1 and 8 0
then again, both the last 2 superbowls included safeties, sooooo yea

stares blankly
:P

@Matt You need to speak English in this chatroom good sir, that or Puzzling :P

Well, one could try making a non-English puzzle

They do all the time, it's called ciphers :P

Touche!

8:12 PM
so american football has strange scoring
it's mostly 7s and 3s
there's the occasional 8 and rare 2

Actually it's mostly 6s and 1s
possible points are 6,1,2,3

most workplaces will do boxes, where you win stuff if the last numbers of the scores match your numbers at the end of each quarter

why a 4 wasn't good enough, I'll never know
@Matt Not when there's only 4 people in the company

this is true
but you can't get a 1 by itself. you get the option of going for 1 or 2 after getting 6, and most of the time 1 is chosen, except in dire situations
so it's essentially 7. I was trying to symplify
so a quarter ending with 8 and 0 is unlikely, as is 5 and 1

well. 5 and 1 is impossible

8:16 PM
@Matt You can get 1 by itself, it just needs to be preceded by a 6. I say this because you can easily get the 6 only to fail at getting the 1/2

"Four shalt thou not count, neither shalt thou count two, excepting that thou then proceedeth to three."

but that's not live play
meaning, you can't just score 1 point
you can't end a game with 1 point
it would need to be 7

I thought you said the last digit needed to match.
Or did I miss something.

yeah, only the last digit

So 7+7+7?

8:19 PM
so 25 counts as 5
7+7+7 would be 21, which is one, and 35 would be 5, but that many touchdowns with no field goals (3 points) would be rare

True, but it was stated as impossible - that is what confused me

it's not
it's possible to achieve any positive integer except 1
just highly unlikely
for some

Safety is 2, iirc, right?

yeah

8:21 PM
but a safety is rare

Yeah

but safeties happened in both the last 2 superbowls, which doesn't affect its likelihood for sunday

So another 5 would be 7 + 3 + 3 + 2
Ah

@Matt I think you get 1 if you return blocked Extra Point attempt?

nope
can't get 1

8:23 PM
"In American football, if what would normally be a safety is scored on an extra point or two-point conversion attempt (officially known in the rulebooks as a try), one point is awarded to the scoring team"
Interesting - I haven't heard of this rule
But I think Matt means you can't get a 1, overall.

defense cannot score on an extra point attempt

Huh

oh

Apparently now viable for either side

8:25 PM
block returns are apparently worth 2 in that scenario, but the weirdest rule ever exists that allows a one-point score

so it's pretty much gotta be sabotage
because you have to voluntarily run 98 yards the wrong direction

I'm not sure what the rule is even referring to, tbh, because I know too little.
Or get REALLY spun around by the defense =D
(I guess it'd be offense, at that point?)

getting pushed by the defense without going down would be blown dead by the refs as forward progress is stopped

Ah
Oh no, I meant getting clobbered, but staying up and running the wrong wa, in confusion.
Not something I foresee happening at a superbowl...but you never know.

I mean, you'd be sooner tackled or forced out of bounds by a teammate in that case
if you started running the entire length of the field away from the intended goal

8:29 PM
@Matt I believe the can if they intercept and run clear to the oposite end

@Matt Envisioning this, and LoL
"Look at him go! He's going the wrong direction! The defense is just standing there, watching him! His team is trying to catch him, but he's JUST. TOO. FAST!"

so if they block the extra point, pick it up and run for the opposite end, that's 2 points for them
if the defense picks it up, but get tacked in their own end zone (the one that the attempt was made towards), that's 1 point, but awarded to the team that was trying for the point, anyway

Either way, the point system for american football is kind of stupid and pretty illogical

basically the only way I could imagine it happening is a 2-point conversion intercepted, returned most of the way into a fumble

Point of conversation
That way ------>

8:32 PM
the kicking team would have to take the ball, and run it all the back to their own endzone and get tackled there
that's 1 point for the defense

lol

but even that seems really unlikely

I think if (on receiving the kick) the player gets tackled in the end zone that's a point? but I'm not sure

if not during and extra point, a player getting tackled in his own endzone would be 2 points for the other team
and possession

I know in Canadian football, if you take a knee (after receiving the kick) in the end zone you're giving the other team points (I believe one but I don't remember)

8:35 PM
And in American football, that same move simply ends the first down, right?

not the case in american football

oh, in the end-zone
I missed that part

back to your boxes, 25-21 is a reasonably plausible score
in American football, that means your team gets the ball on the 25 yard line

@Matt I know

from 200 quarters of superbowls

8 and 5 are 8th and 9th on the rarity list

@Matt No idea what the heck that is

the occurrences last digit of scores after 200 quarters of superbowl
so 5 1 happened 4 times, and 8 0 the same

(Have to go now, but will check responses in morning)

I'm not sure what's the point of having an ad on Puzzling to the "Ask a Question" page on Puzzling when there's already a link to it at the top of every page? The image is nice though, so maybe it could be used for an ad for Puzzling on another site (PPCG? Maths?) — rand al'thor 57 secs ago

Ever regretted something after posting a puzzle? Yeah well, just tweaked mine a bit in case anyone's trying :P

11:19 PM
With imgur links in puzzles, are we allowed links to pages on imgur? as in, not hosted on the stackexchange.stuff.png ?

I don't see why not to be honest, how come?
(also is the CCCC one word or possibly two words/two words hyphenated?)

The CCCC is definitely one word
Imgur can link to sets of images
whereas if you wanted to link to a set of images on the stack host, you'd either need seperate links, or moosh your images together into one big pic, which isn't ideal

11:35 PM
k, not that I really had any doubts about the (11) but I had an idea which looked almost plausible but wouldn't have given one word :P
Hmm depending on how many there are you can always thumbnail them

@TheGreatEscaper The main question is, will the link go dead? Stack.imgur is OK because that (probably) won't collapse unless SE does, but the main reason against, say, link-only answers is that they become useless if the link no longer works.

Stack.imgur is just a hosting of imgur images, isn't it?
Stack.imgur will collapse if imgur does, pretty sure
