Q: A minesweeper to annoy 4 logicians

FluorineThis puzzle is original. Although I'm sure it is shares a similar idea with some other logic problems, but I worked out the details of this one. I've not put the no-computer tag because computer aid search can make puzzles more accessible, however a solution MUST NOT be based on purely computatio...

Q: How many coins do you need to have?

Hemant AgarwalYou are in a country where the only accepted currency is a blue coin that is issued by the government. Each blue coin is of the same value and is the only currency that is accepted in the country. You go from point A to point B and encounter 8 tolls on the way. The strange rule in the country is ...

hot dressing? your mum's hot-dressing
that's a nice clue, wouldn't have expected the definition to be six words there

@oAlt yep
@Jafe thanks

CCCC: Maybe log x is over c – it's bounded further above, ultimately, by M (9)

As someone whose major is applied math, this C4 is pointed at me, I'd say.

:)

5:05 AM
X, C, and M are all roman numerals, and they're all exponents of 10. But what's the definition part...?
There are so many 9-letter synonyms of "log", and none of them seem to have anything with roman numerals.

Q: Attain a particular configuration from a given initial configuration in a 3x2/2x3 board

mrtechtroidThe preface is the same as the well known 15 Sliding Puzzle/ 8 Sliding Puzzle. But this one is a miniaturized form of it with a 2x3 board. Given a initial configuration of the board and a final configuration of the board, can we tell: (a) If the final config is "attainable" from initial config. (...

10:51 AM
@DannyuNDos There's a bunch of mathematicians here, I think :-)
Looking at the star-board makes me wonder if the c and M are connected to MC Hammer and oAlt was inspired by Jafe's starred comment.

are you suggesting it may be hammertime

Jafe… stop.

Q: One Up 8x8 puzzle

Dmitry KamenetskyRodolfo Kurchan created a wonderful new puzzle called One Up. Here are the rules: Each cell must contain a positive integer. Each horizontal and vertical sequence of N cells between walls, must contain numbers between 1 and N in some order. For example, here are the possible sequences in the fo...

Q: It's quite odd to decipher seemingly random key-smashes

In some contexts, the "log" function with no base specified has base 10. In Roman numerals, "log x" would then be "i".

so then we have "i is over c"?
reminds me of that old spelling mnemonic: "I over C, except when bounded further above, ultimately, by M"

Oh my gosh hahaha

an excerptum could be a (part of a) log... it has the ex and the c plus m at the end but the rest doesn't look all that promising

@juicifer making English now a language written top-to-bottom

A piece of excrement can be "maybe log"-shaped. Plus the rest of what Jafe just said about "excerptum". (Plus the fact that I don't think oAlt would clue "excrement".)

1:56 PM
(types down notes) mm hmm

@oAlt apparently so, since Jafe is typing down notes

Heh

see I usually type things up

further above ultimately =RE plus the M would somewhat back the excrement theory
or extremist or some such word

2:14 PM
@juicifer what language is that?

I hate how lasagna was also the first thing I thought of when I saw that lol

Maybe the definition is M, and the answer is masculine or, um, judidench.

"by M" sounds like something 007 might say when he sees something really shocking
over can be O from cricket, so it could be exo-something
although hmm maybe the "is" is misplaced then

2:30 PM
Maybe c=9000, and log x is over 9000.
