@Randal'Thor I don't know. I haven't really looked at this one too much - I just saw you musing about a potential double meaning of "paramount" and decided to butt in. :P

if its leading, then its not tracking or kerning

@WesleySitu I believe you mean "keming".

yes that!

:P

12:31 AM
Well, I'm off guys. Good luck with the riddle, I'll check up on you tomorrow. :D

Goodnight! :-)

12:48 AM
Hmm, a + inside a circle is a symbol for XOR, isn't it?
hmm, sequins could be silent letters maybe? Purely decorative?

yep XOR. i was thinking it was convolution, but that ones rotated

Will Rand al'Thor get banned again if I ask him anything regarding to riddlersden here ?

2:46 AM
Hello.
A user was removed yesterday, making one of my posts sunk down on the drain.
I only realized this because I got the Disciplined badge.
Is it possible to figure out what post was this?
I kind of don't remember, what I have answered yesterday.

@Ankoganit: Didn't anything funny incident with prof Pheno menon happened recently with you ?

@ArbitraryKangaroo Haha no...
I'm working on a new puzzle though
But it's taking some time

user189275
@Ankoganit: With Pheno Menon ? Or other genre ?

@ArbitraryKangaroo Nah, something wordplay-ish this time.

user189275
4:09 AM
@Ankoganit: When are you posting that ? Today ?

@ArbitraryKangaroo No, like I said, it's taking some time. Should be ready in a week or two. (Besides I need some chilling out in Pujas :D)
Shubho Saptami BTW :)

user189275
4:23 AM
@Ankoganit: Oh yeah, The nearest Durgapujo Mandap is around 10 feet away from our house (it's our village mandap), and we went to visit the nearby Pandals yesterday, because there's usually less crowd on Sasthi, so I am now just basically free now all the time to spend on PSE and other stuff (as it's the school holiday too, and my parents allow me to not mug (study) in the Puja). Same to ya.

user189275
5:18 AM
@dcfyj: How you communicated with Rand al'thor to make this riddle. @Sleafar: How Beastly proofread your puzzle ? It's probably not in the chat.

5:36 AM
@ArbitraryKangaroo It is in the chat. Why do you ask?

2 hours later…
7:37 AM
@ArbitraryKangaroo we made a separate chat room so it wouldn't fill up the chat here

user189275
@BeastlyGerbil: But you should decipher it with some key, otherwise someone else could read it and get the core ideas (atleast they would get the answer to part 7's questions). It surely kills the fun, but it's possible.

8:23 AM
@Matsmath No, you can't.

user189275
@Alenanno: Is your riddles specific para's meant to be deciphered by the rules of the mini puzzles ? You should add a third hint, perhaps.

@ArbitraryKangaroo What is "para" in this case? But if I got what you mean, no, the riddle needs to be solved... as a riddle. :)

user189275
@Alenanno: Well, any hints ? I am repeatedly walking in extremely wrong directions.

@ArbitraryKangaroo Which part are you struggling with?

user189275
@Alenanno: Everypart, except the first, which is probably U

user189275
8:27 AM
And the station, which is probably X

Well, partly you all are on the right track, with some minor details off, which I think would fix themselves when you get the second last stanza (about the pair).
Ok I'll add another hint.
@ArbitraryKangaroo cc @Randal'Thor and @Sconibulus See the new hint

user189275
@Alenanno: Think out loud most probably means the words are misspelled, and needs to be pronounced to find the correct homophones.

@ArbitraryKangaroo Sorry for the cryptic hint. I think it's more fun that way. :D
Stupid fly is annoying me. ._.

user189275
@Alenanno: So my intrepretation is wrong (of course) ?

@ArbitraryKangaroo Uhm which one? About U-X?

user189275
8:42 AM
@Alenanno: Anyone, about U-X or your last hint.

@ArbitraryKangaroo You're right about the hint yes. ;D

9:12 AM
@Alconja Ehm instead of posting here, post an answer?
@Alconja May I ask you to hide that? I'd still like everyone to solve the riddle. :D

Hmmm.. won't let me delete it... Sorry...

@Alconja Can I do it for you?

If you have the power...

@Alconja Thanks. In any case, you were right. I think you should post an answer, but I'd still need you to solve the riddle to accept yours.

So I short circuited things?

9:25 AM
@Alconja I guess my question was slightly badly designed there. I mean, it's my fault.
I wanted the riddle to be necessary but maybe it wasn't really.

Totally understand. I feel like it's rare for me to make a puzzle without regretting something after the fact. :)

@Alconja Would you post an answer explaining how you got to that solution?

Just having a look at the riddle to see if I can do it "properly"...

@Alconja Ok thanks, and sorry for deleting your chat message, maybe you could have kept it. I just wanted to see how the others get to the end.

Not at all... No point having the fun spoiled by accident. I won't answer unless I can actually make it work the right way (though based on one of your hints, I have an inking...)

9:35 AM
@Alconja Posting a partial answer is fine. Go for it! :D

user189275
@Alenanno: Alconja found the solution to the riddle (I didn't see what was the removed thing) ?

@ArbitraryKangaroo Well, kind of. :D But he/she is still missing the reasoning part, which I'd like to see.

user189275
He.

user189275
@Alenanno: (In your recent puzzle) First one is thermometre (probably)

@ArbitraryKangaroo Are you going to tackle that question as well?

user189275
9:39 AM
@Alenanno: I do randomly, so now I'm tackling that.

user189275
Well, is the first one right ? (Yes/No)

@ArbitraryKangaroo Ok, looking forward to your answer. :D Well, the question is still very recent, do you want my input already? Just to make sure you're sure.
:D

user189275
@Alenanno: You're using ":D" way too often than it's required. Just saying, but you should use it when it's a joke, but not randomly between words. :)

@ArbitraryKangaroo I like to lighten up the mood.

@ArbitraryKangaroo I agree. :D :P

9:42 AM
My style of writing makes me sound like I'm always angry. So I add emoticons.
@ArbitraryKangaroo Well, that's a bit exaggerated lol

user189275
Ololkay, nololt ulolslole lol inlolstealold ololf :D

user189275
@Alenanno I'm joking of course.

user189275
@Alconja: Will you redraw some pictures in REJBAS (as you told earlier) ? Also, any wrap up post ?

I wonder if someone knows where this comes from:
I knew of an alternative wording: What walks on four legs in the morning, two legs at noon, three legs at dusk, and screams in abject terror now? :D — Alenanno 54 secs ago
@ArbitraryKangaroo Ahah sure, no worries.

Re: redrawing... I haven't decided. I think I will do a wrap up post though, because I think there's some good lessons learned from it (for me). Might take me a week or two to get to it though.
I also think it has a vaguely interesting evolution story... (e.g. it and This is important were actually both born from the same core of an idea)
(and I still didn't manage to actually get the original idea all the way through to fruition)

user189275
9:53 AM
@Alconja: What's the original idea ? Directly puzzle related (I suppose it's something meta idea) ? One thing that's common is the writing style, and other thing is that subpuzzles which are used in solving the actual puzzles (But is a hint actually), and other is the importance of apparently useless stuff (the Notex ad, thin marker) but I think these is not the case.

user189275
But the door puzzle also has those things (but the treasure hunt doesn't) so I guess it's part of the idea evolution too.

No the common origin is so buried (especially in This is important) that you can barely see it any more... you'll just have to stay tuned for the wrap up, when I get to it

user189275
@Alconja: What was the point of adding the color in #7 to the asterix part ?

(but you can consider that a meta-puzzle to mull over until then: what is the common ancestor puzzle idea that lead to both those puzzles? :P)

user189275
Excellent idea !

user189275
9:56 AM
The door puzzle isn't a part of that ?

Just to make the square whole to make it clear the cube is separate from the 'K' (and to allow me to pre-colour a few bits to make each side a little more interesting/unique). But yeah, strictly speaking, there's not a huge amount of "point", beyond aesthetics.
Nope. Just "important" and "rejbas" shared a great great ... grandfather of a puzzle idea.
Don't put too much time into trying to find it. Like I said, it's barely recognisable in "important"
And in fact, without my explanation, its probably impossible to see... Just interesting to know (I think) that they have shared lineage.

user189275
@Alconja: Oh ! And as a side question, excluding the time you thought it in your head, how much time it took to actively make them ?

Yeah, I've been asked that before... And like I said then, it's hard to estimate since I tend to chip away at things over a long time (and they evolve so dramatically in that time)... but certainly in the many 10s of hours for most my "bigger" ones.

user189275
What happened to the chat in GRP's "Unsolved Mysteries: Kryptos" question to solve the Kryptos [??] collaboratively ?

user189275
@nine9 I've added a chat room to discuss this puzzle. I took the liberty of copying your comments into it. — GentlePurpleRain ♦ Feb 2 at 21:15

I guess it's something to do with the two pieces put together, and then take i-j th letter or something like that. I can bet if some PSE users worked together, it would be solved within instantly. Also, Sandborn hinted a lot of stuff, some of which are not pondered upon much.

user189275
Most of the hints can be found here, and then others are scattered randomly in his interviews.

user189275
The recent hints (except the BERLINCLOCK one), which are neglected, are than i. One of the key is KRYPTOS (he mentioned it in 1991, before it was publicly disclosed that any piece was solved; It may mean the Kryptos alphabet, but I guess something more too.) ii. The fictionary writer he recently disclosed in an online interview,

user189275
"Who was the fiction author who was supposed to help? David Cornwell" (Why ?)

user189275
I suppose the most important hint is what he told to Elonka around 2003, it is mentioned in the link above. And also, another is that the keywords are not meant to be guessed by frequency analysis, but they are stenographied in the sculpture

I wish I could draw, I'd love to make rebuses.

user189275
10:22 AM
Also, it would be better if anyone found his interviews around 1991~1993, as he "gave a lot of clues ("were less glib")" those time.

user189275
I read around 13~15 interviews, and they are basically the same words.

My previous question was not replied, so I am repeating: @GentlePurpleRain @Deusovi @Emrakul Will Randal'thor be banned again if I ask him any question about riddlersden here, and he replies ? The site is not opening, so I thought I would ask him, but he just had one year ban, so I don't know if this is a good place to ask.

@ArbitraryKangaroo Why would a question get him banned?
@ArbitraryKangaroo I think there are designed chat rooms for testing chat capabilities. :P

Maybe you should delete that, it takes up a lot of space.

No, the letter now streches, so I think that's the limit of nesting.

I think it depends on your screen size...try resizing your window... :O

@Ankoganit Don't give him ideas! :D

Q: Pheno Menon and his coloured flags

AnkoganitProfessor Pheno Menon has sent for me for helping with some decorations. When I reached his home, he explained: "Look here, I've got $6$ flags: $2$ red, $2$ blue and $2$ green. I want to pin them in my garden such that no three are collinear." "I am assuming there's some catch?", I said. "Inde...

user189275
Oh! There was a note at the bottom - I missed that.

Wait, it's 5002 for some reason.. D:
No, it's 5000 again
What do I get for 5k anyway...just tag-wiki-approval? Meh...
10k is a lot more interesting...
Anyway, 5k in 3-4 months is not bad...
@ArbitraryKangaroo You can now reverse the votes if you want...(though it doesn't probably count as serial upvoting, but still, better safe than sorry)
I was hoping someone would nominate GRP's steganographic riddle for the best of Q3...
But apparently no-one has done that yet

user189275
11:30 AM
@Ankoganit: What puzzle ? The Haskell now or the Bold italic ? You may see the comment in the meta post.

11:59 AM
@ArbitraryKangaroo Everything indicates it should be fine: chat is informal; there are multiple precedents; in fact I've even talked about RD before in here with no issues; and I'm pretty sure Emrakul has explicitly said it's fine in chat. However, everything indicated that what I did before should have been fine too - even by the rules they came up with after the fact to cover that unusual situation - so who knows.
@ArbitraryKangaroo He asked for a riddle in chat, so I gave him one.
@Ankoganit Indeed, 10k is the best new level to reach.

@Randal'Thor, thanks so much. It was the Who stole that money? question.

@Matsmath Out of curiosity, can you see that deleted question even without 10k rep, since you answered it?

user189275
@Randal'Thor: What is RD ? Similar to PSE ? What genre of puzzles ? Only riddles ? When it will open ?

@ArbitraryKangaroo It opened on 12 April 2015. It's currently down, but you can still see what it was like using the Wayback Machine, and it might be back up soon. Yes, only riddles, at least for the moment.
Similar to PSE? Not really. It's restricted to riddles, for one thing, and the riddles are higher quality than the ones here (basically, the best riddlers of PSE walked out and set up our own place). Also there's only a few contributors (although anyone can send us riddles to theriddlersden@gmail.com) - it's not a 'social' Q&A site with lots of users like PSE.

12:44 PM
@Randal'Thor, no, of course not. But I remember what it was about, and that how I answered it. Thank you again for your kind help.

user189275
1:03 PM
@Randal'Thor: Who from PSE are the contributors ? (Top users) When it will open next ? How are the riddles presented ? Was it a byproduct of discussion of top riddlers here - or its just a coincidence ?

@ArbitraryKangaroo d'alar'cop, Avigrail, Oblongamous, and myself set it up. (d'alar'cop was the top user on PSE for a while, and the other two used to be quite prominent but gave away most of their rep in bounties.) As for when it will reopen, I'm not sure yet, but I'll let you know ;-) You can see how the riddles are presented using the Wayback Machine link above. I'm not sure what you mean by "just a coincidence"?

Well my computer just took an hour to update, but it was, for once, worth it!
I have a ton of new accessories, my favourite being a 'vault' of sites which will open them for you, and auto sign in
I never have to sign in again!

user189275
1:54 PM
@Randal'Thor Coincidence is the fact that "the best riddlers of PSE walked out and set up our own place" - is it the reason or just a mere coincidence ?

@ArbitraryKangaroo Is what the reason for what?
Sorry if I'm being dense :-)

@Randal'Thor Could you add spoilers to that new answer under the 3 riddles?

user189275
@Randal'Thor Ignore my extremely clunky, stupid and nonsensically pseudo-cryptic comments. (It's , trivially, because I'm excessively stupid - for nothing else). I just wanted to say that The top users in PSE being on Riddlers den - Why does that happen ? Is it that some top users here collaboratively made that - or it just happens that the top users therer is top user here ?

@Alenanno This one? Done.

@Randal'Thor Yes, thank you!

1:57 PM
@ArbitraryKangaroo Yes, we first met here on PSE and then set up the new place together.

user189275
@Alenanno: Why horse is an answer to the first riddle ? I can't understand how line four of the first riddle fits. Also, the first two lines fit, but there are, in my opinion, better fits for these two lines.

@ArbitraryKangaroo I'm not sure I can answer this one way or the other...

user189275
Do both. What "way"s?

I mean, I can't neither confirm nor deny that user is right, since I'm the OP. No?

@ArbitraryKangaroo Alenanno never said horse was the answer. I've asked Guest to add explanation to their answer though.
To do: come up with a good puzzle in the next 8 days.

user189275
2:02 PM
@Alenanno @Randal'Thor Oh, I thought since the OP requested it, it was right. SfS

user189275
2:17 PM
@Randal'Thor: I am both getting 4 minimum, and a "proof" that it's impossible to do below 6 weighting at the same time ! What's your minimum ?

@ArbitraryKangaroo SfS?

user189275
Sorry for Stupdity

@ArbitraryKangaroo Like I said on the question, I don't know the answer (assuming you're talking about this question).
I just thought it was an interesting variant, since in the original wording of TSLF's question, using both hands as a balance scale sounded much more realistic than being able to determine the exact weight with one hand.

@Randal'Thor I am sorry, I didn't reply as I am at home. The spacing should be correct to get the word. If you have tried everything, then I might be wrong somewhere. You could try the sum of phrase. Here's a hint. What do you do to get a sum?

Add things up?
I've already tried counting the words in each sentence ... maybe adding something like the letter counts in each word?
I'm not sure if I've tried every possible spacing of those commas and dots, but I've certainly experimented a lot. Is the final word VAN?
Oh wait, it could be STATE!
For the first word, the most sensible things I can find are PI and PEE.
The middle word is still making no sense at all ...
Ignoring the paragraph gaps, there's an ABOUT in there, but I can't make sense of the bit between ABOUT and STATE.

Sid
4:25 PM
No, there is a single word. And it is pretty obvious

---..--...-.
As well as trying it by hand, I've plugged it into an online translator, but it's not recognising any words in there.

Sid
4:41 PM
Added a hint. Should make it obvious now
Wait, Morse code can be solved by hand? I have always used an online translator

@Sid Woo :-D
@Sid Of course it can, if you're patient enough and/or enough of a Luddite.

5:08 PM
@ArbitraryKangaroo you can do more fun with messages in sandbox, a chat room where you can play with chat features

Sid
@Randal'Thor you have the first part. Then, the 2nd part about sum...

Does anyone know how to change the color of the text in posts?

10
A: Can we get an easy, markdownish way to color text?

Doorknob (my point being that colors are <red>ridiculously</red> easy to abuse and would quickly get <green>annoying</green> and make us look like a <blue>forum</blue>.)

Thanks
Oh what
No, I know it is possible I saw a puzzle recently with it

@Sid How do you define the word "phrase"?

5:52 PM
This question has been massively overhauled to make it much clearer. Reopen votes, anyone?
