Q: Math sequence. What number comes next?

OlshawI have created a pattern that is fairly interesting. It is discoverable from a geometric shape. The sequence begins: 1,2,4,9,1,18,1,2.... It is a repeating pattern. It could be an infinite repeating pattern if you continue the iterations. With an infinitely high number. (This specifically is not)...

1:06 AM
I'm so mad right now
I was two days away from getting the fanatic badge
TWO DAYS

Oh no!! Did you lose the streak?

Yea
(In LSE)

:(

2 DAYS! 2 DAMN DAYS

That's the worst

1:07 AM
I somehow forgot to login

I had gotten up to like 60-something on Puzzling at one point, but then went on a road trip and had no WiFi so my streak broke
The "log in every day" badges are so annoying but so shiny and pretty :p

ARRRGGG >:(

frustrated tree sounds

I WAS AT 97 DAYS
Damn login arrrggg
My shiny gold badge!

Nooooo

1:13 AM
That was over 3 month of consistent logging in

I wish there was like a grace day on those

Like 100 straight days but then you can miss up to like 2 days

ALright 'borg you're a programmer right?

That's definitely a thing I can totally do, I am Pro Hacker

Q: Largest Word Circle

Dmitry KamenetskyMy previous word puzzle failed miserably, so I am going to try again. Can you place $n$ characters in a circle, such that a distinct word is formed when you read $n$ characters clockwise starting from any character? For example if you place the characters "e", "a" and "t" in a circle you will for...

Apparently there was a Grammar Debate?

Were there nasty comments or something? It looks like Deus got involved

I don't recall any nasty comments. I think Deusovi was involved because he found it interesting.

I meant that it seems there was a mention of a user attacking ention and some comment flags got raised.
Apparently I missed the whole situation

1:27 AM
oh, hmm, looks like there was some sort of drama offscreen. I missed that too :-).

Hopefully it worked out
Puzzling is typically a pretty chill, drama-free zone :p

Oh, you haven't been around here then

Q: Unexpected number relations

Vassilis ParassidisLet's have the following numbers. $ \sqrt{\frac{2069}{24}}$, $11$, $\frac{1397}{24}$, $ \sqrt{\frac{2069}{24}}$, $3$, $\frac{2741}{24}$,$13$, $\sqrt{\frac{2069}{24}}$, $91$. How are these numbers related?

aaand i missed 'borg again

Hey matt :D

I'm currently solving the list of sashiganes Bobble prepared for me

1:53 AM

this is my little floofy Christmas tree

nice!
also it looks like your piano photobombed you :p

Yeah, my apartment is pretty small so it had to squish in next to my keyboard :p

hm
[completely random question] do you want to read 270 pages of ridiculousness?

?

(hold on a sec...)

1:59 AM
what is it?

wikipedia, but turned into nonsense via google translate
i've been working on it for the past ~2 1/2 months

Nifty
Is it an art piece thing where you're trying to make a statement, or just a fun side thing?
Might make a fun modern art piece where you're commenting on how things are lost in translation :p

just a fun side thing

It's neat :)

thanks :) funniest sentences?

2:07 AM
"Lee went on to make a nice tin"
"successful at a high level of success" also sounds horribly like something my boss would say in corporate-speak

hehe
and then there are the sentences that don't even make grammatical sense ("The beautiful Ghirlandaio B frescos are that it provides a well-known for its good appeal.")

2:27 AM
Hey @b_jonas , haven't seen you here before :)

@Sciborg Hello. I came in because I want to update the links to Erich Friedman's website in a few posts: data.stackexchange.com/puzzling/query/1341643/… data.stackexchange.com/puzzling/query/1341646/…
And if anyone wants to complain that I'm bumping too many posts at the same time or something like that, let them find me in chat.
Math SE has 60 such pages and about as many comments so I won't edit all of them there, but on smaller sites I can do so.

Fixing dead links is a fair reason to bump posts to me, nothing to worry about. Good of you to help out!

@Zsbán editing a large number of old questions in a short period of time bumps newer questions off the front page. Please don't do that. — Gerry Myerson 33 mins ago

It should be fine if it's just a few
Hey bobble! :D
You are a more experienced editor than me, is it okay to bump posts to fix broken links?

It's 5 posts here.

2:41 AM
I just had Grandparent Dinner but with an Extra! Fun! tic attack during the whole thing

Oh no :(

You try eating pizza while your hands are shaking

^^

That's awful, I'm sorry.

RE: post bumping. My usual rule for bumping is to edit one post and then let it drop off the front page. Five at one time seems fine (pushing it a bit), though it would probably be better if you broke it up into 3/2, separated by a day or so.

2:45 AM
That seems fair to me
It's fixing a broken link which is a good reason to back-edit, obviously.

@bobble I see.

We have a bunch more activity during weekdays, so any bumps won't sit on the front page as long.

@bobble Hmm that's true.

I solved the 12 Sashiganes you posted as puzzlinks bobble, working on the Sashikabes in grid chat :)

:D I'll pop over then

2:55 AM
... and one more on Meta, it turns out.

You can edit meta, that's fine. We've had an unusual amount of Meta activity recently.

@bobble Clues are done, I'll send you everything so you can double-check I haven't done something stupid before I send it to Deus
Actually gotta finish editting

I'll see how much I can do tonight, though I likely won't finish before tomorrow

Oh, I'm done with everything
I guess just looking over and giving general feedback

I can do that.

3:35 AM
@bobble I’ll send it tomorrow
@deusovi I’ll also send it by tomorrow!

got it

Does anyone know a good sudoku app for Android with multiple sudoku variations? I haven't done a ton of sudoku but I've had more fun doing non-classical variations where I can come up with my own tactics.

in Chain Puzzles, 1 hour ago, by bobble
> These puzzles really interested me, and having done lots of tough, but normal sudokus I set out looking for apps for my phone that had sudoku variants. This was harder than I thought but I eventually stumbled upon an app called Sudoku Mega Bundle which was exactly what I was looking for.

This app has 125 different Sudoku variations, which is unbelievable for a free app. There is a 'random puzzle' button, and I started trying out as many different puzzle types as possible. There's still many I haven't even looked at yet!
reposting the stuff I put in Chain Puzzles

Was about to point out the same, but realized it's an iOS app, not Android

(And welcome to the Sphinx's Lair by the way :D)

We're a bunch of nerds over here, of all types - Marvel, Pokemon, linguistics, puzzles, etc.

Quick search on my phone reveals something called "VISTALGY sudoku" which claims to have 70+ sudoku variations, but can't say about the quality

Given that we're getting markdown tables, what's the status of screen reader support (and other accessibility concerns if any)?

@LukasRotter could the FTC bot maybe add links to the pages created for individual fortnightly challenges (e.g. here)?
currently the only link next to each topic points to the suggesting user's profile, which is not very helpful
of course i could add links myself but i don't want to confuse the bot if it edits that page automatically

Hmm, since jafe is close, I won't hesitate to give another nudge right now: to be more explicit, there are zero letter selection indicators in "In the end, In end end".

Q: Looking for a strategy for assembling a Minesweeper grid knowing only the tiles but not their positions

TimwiThis puzzle consists of 36 tiles. Each tile has a digit and may or may not have a mine. @athin ooh, looks interesting
are the wildcards really stretches of black or white cells? from the example it looks like they indicate blacks only?

wait... right... it should be blacks only I'll fix it, thanks @jafe

np!

ooh I just realized that Grant Fikes' original rule is black for row and white for columns

athin... that is hardddd!!!

7:51 AM
but later on they standardize it to all blacks
ey alo O.K. haha, it's actually not that hard.. after the break-in I guess XD

DrDGrandpa seemed to have spent some time writing something. "What are you writing, Grandpa?", I asked. "Just trying to tie up some ends here. Check it out", he says. 2:23 PM
and iirc u can see closed questions/answers as well, so saying that they also posted another pointless answer

Closed and deleted.

@GarethMcCaughan Why didn't you just delete?

Not sure, really :-).

Oh, okay. I was hoping to learn some tip along the lines of "if you close it first, some automated mechanism learns something about the user".
But I guess not. :-)

2:41 PM
Nah. Closing does give you an opportunity to say why you're closing, which with someone who's posting bad things with good intentions has some value, but this guy is clearly just trying to be a nuisance.

2:53 PM
@GarethMcCaughan If you say so. I can't see the post. :-D
This C4 is starting to annoy me.
@OmegaKrypton now I'm confused . . . which is your given name and which is your family name?

@msh210 D:
want me to give more nudges? Only the parsing is left anyway
(although on second thought I think I might schedule them, but give them out at a faster rate than normal hints, for the reason stated above)
@GarethMcCaughan yayyy thanks for putting it to rest for the meantime

@msh210 lmao it doesnt matter XD
u wanna try?
In [the end] (E, as in S and E in start and end of mazes), [In] (IN) [end end] (E_), [In the end, Volkswagen Touareg](_N _G)'s motor (6) @oAlt

@OmegaKrypton I doubt I have time to test a collection of puzzles plus a metapuzzle, sorry

ah nvm

hmmmm

@OmegaKrypton and I wouldn't be any good at most types, anyway

awww it's alright then
In the end, In end end --> IN ("the end" smh disappears) in E E? @oAlt (cries in desperation) this time no letter selection
oof they left

You got the idea right, that "end" is an abbreviation
Still not the intended parsing though
"In the end" does something else
@OmegaKrypton

hmmm interesting

3:24 PM
and some of the other parts too

yea obv
In [the end,](E) [In](IN) [end](E) end ?
but then the last end...

why not a lowercase though? it's still omega

A: Riddles involving Stack Exchange: Off topic?

DeusoviQuestions involving Stack Exchange are fine, but you should take care to note that they're solvable long after they're posted. (Part of the purpose of Puzzling, at least in my eyes, is to be an archive of puzzles that are solvable at any point in the future.) In this case, there are a few issues...

Slightly off-tangent, but hold the principle I was looking for

(to confirm, etiquette for asking about a user's suspension is "don't"?)

there's nothing wrong with asking, but we generally don't say too much about them other than public information (meta.stackexchange.com/q/293213/317699)

I was wondering if Deepthinker's suspension reason changed? I thought it was to "calm down", ending sometime in January, but when I checked today it said for "voting irregularities", ending next December.

yes, that is correct. "voting irregularities" is not necessarily accurate; it's a general reason used for any sockpuppets, even if voting was not involved

you can find sockpuppets with Super Secret Mod Tools?

yes, mod tools give us some information that may indicate sockpuppets
