00:00 - 10:0010:00 - 00:00

10:05 AM
lol I just clicked randomly on 5 and completed it
I'm so good at this

I can't purchase steam games :c

5... jelly no?

yes

Maybe I should try that more
I think it's called subconscious intuition

I wish it also worked on 6, but more jelly on screen is damaging my bruteforce intuition

10:20 AM
Finally solved another level :)

@ffao :|
@Wen1now what's the difference between that and intuition

I'm starting to doubt 6 is even possible, I wasn't born to play puzzle games :|

@ffao but... you aced 5

@ASCII-only Good point... I didn't even notice. What I meant was intuition which occurs by doing random stuff, much like arthur pulling scrabble tiles out of a bag
@ffao Yeah I doubted the last two levels too and they turned out to have cool solutions

wait, it's possible, I'm just dumb

10:24 AM
I mean, I thought the same of the last few levels... but surely this one is impossible? (I'm stuck again)

@Wen1now Everyone's always stuck lol

Excellent!! (yay!)

got it?

These levels are so difficult
yep

wuhu!

10:26 AM
Thanks :)
This next level feels impossible

I'm going to say when a level doesn't feel impossible
if I don't say anything assume it does

Everyone already knows all the levels are impossible
@Wen1now ...

I played this game as an app once, and I'm sure I solved this though.

I think I'm going to spend the rest of my life searching for the solution to life, the universe and everything level 5

Hahaha... that was actually pretty funny

10:33 AM
wow, straight into the fray with level 1

Has anyone played snakebird?
*anyone here

you know the game means business when that's level 1

I've played the free flash version

yep

@ffao And there's an insane difficulty jump between every. single. level.

10:34 AM
(Yes but I didn't like Snakebird much personally)

Snakebird was fun...
At least snakebird, level 1, isn't quite that difficult

ahh you can move multiple connected jelly at once.
Now I have solved level 1

This level is almost definitely unsolvable...

@Wen1now screenshot?

10:40 AM
what is red bar

what's that pink blob on the ground?

(Oops I didn't mean to say that as though I was looking down on Snakebird or anything, I just didn't seem to have as many aha moments as compared to, say, Steven's Sausage Roll)

The red thing line on the ground is a new mechanic

level 2 wasn't as hard as level 1 for me

frictionless slime? acid that dissolves red? or acid that dissolves all but red

10:40 AM
@Wen1now :D

Sorry
Gimme a sec

if this was a normal level i'd say just make a red platform but I'm guessing the pink blob makes it not possible to finish

@Sp3000 Don't worry, I didn't take it that way... I get what you're saying though. Most of the snakebird levels felt unique though

@Wen1now but were they challenging? :P

Yeah, they were very difficult

10:45 AM
:O i am genius i just figured out how to do 5

Do you mind bad art?

I may need to cheat on level 3

congratulations, you get to go to the next impossible level! :D

@Wen1now i don't mind
@micsthepick pls. no cheats
@ffao yus

but, It seems especially impossible

10:46 AM
who doesn't want that amirite

Okay

@micsthepick you don't want the red blocks contacting too early, but you want to move the blue. how will you do that?

I figued that out

What happens on the red blocks
*red slimes

@Wen1now huhwhat

10:47 AM
The squares represent slimes

does it suck in the one on the right or something

I mean jellies

Hmm that doesn't look quite right - which block are you moving how to get that to occur?

Wait I'm stupid
Sorry I've removed that

The blue slime must eventually fall down but the other one has to come first before the other yellow, so the yellows seem like they cannot ever meet

10:49 AM
Moving the red one left a square

@micsthepick move one blue to the very right -> magic

Resolving the puzzles is fun
Why does it keep giving An unknown error has occurred - retry / edit / cancel errors?

your internet is bad

I still don't get it :P

@Wen1now :| do you forget the solutions that quickly
@micsthepick hold on

10:50 AM
Huh. It's never happened before
@ASCII-only Last time I played this (before today) was months ago

@Wen1now ah

are you all sure 8 is possible?

ohh

@ffao Not up to there yet pls halp pls ignore that

10:51 AM
I think I got it
Got it!

/set brain.speed 100

Ugh. This level still feels impossible

@Wen1now so it only triggers on red?

Yep

and you need that to finish the level right

10:56 AM
I think so
Yeah you do
Oh I think I got it

Wait nvm

@Wen1now :D

Yay! Got it
The next level has way too many colours
And way too many blocks

For a second I thought I had 4
but either blue would fall down in the leftmost hole

11:04 AM
@micsthepick do you want a hint :P

maaaybe

I thought I had this level

ok hint: you need a platform

@Wen1now So did I

Then I realised that I had to join all the blocks of the same colour :(

11:05 AM
@Wen1now :P

I mean, I had trouble collecting all the red lines on the ground

@micsthepick :| i use platform to mean a 1x2 jelly that can move most kinds of jellies on top [warning: very spoilery spoiler]

2 wide?

Yeah I think so

11:10 AM
@micsthepick yep

Did you just put a spoiler alert at the end of the spoiler?

@Wen1now yes because why not

This is getting quite fustrating

Good luck

Yeah, I'm frustrated, good luck with the rest of the levels

11:13 AM
got it already
and that's the last level for tonight

Yay got another level

g'night everyone

Goodnight

@Wen1now :| I'm sure you're at least 100% ahead of everyone

11:14 AM
Actually I'd better sleep too
Only because I started earlier :)

isn't it only like 9pm

'only 9pm' - I have school tomorrow. I need sleep

<- sleeps at 2am, wakes up at like 7
... my sleep schedule is messed up isn't it

That'd be nice
The problem is I just lie there for hours if I have anything interesting stored in my brain

@Wen1now ?

11:15 AM
@ASCII-only that's exactly my schedule

@Wen1now this is the reason why i sleep at 2 :P

It'd be nice to be able to sleep at 2 and wake at 7

Sid
@Wen1now How about sleep at 3 and wake at 6?

I'd say go to sleep now and wake up early
(early for me is like 7ish anyway)
Okay goodnight

goodnight

11:20 AM
night!
I sleep anytime between midnight and 4
and wake up from 8:16 to 8:22

Sid
@Mithrandir That's.... very precise.

well, I have to be at synagogue at 8:30

Sid
Everyday?

yup

shh, don't tell anyone, I solved level 5 :P

11:30 AM
@micsthepick :| (also woah that was pretty quick)

6 was worse than 5 to me
And 7 was much easier than either

and I had a shower before starting

But 8 is impossible

@ffao yep

@ffao sure

11:32 AM
@ffao i know right >_> what's with the difficulty function

2 hours later…
1:23 PM
Hmm, the cccc might be Scrupulous double-def? honest/thorough

2:03 PM
@Wen1now huh, interesting coincidence. I'm currently playing through hanano puzzle - just started a few days ago

2:25 PM
@Sid That's what "illegal" means. "impossible to achieve under a legal game of chess".

Sid
2:35 PM
Oh, okay. I seem to have misunderstood what that meant.

It means "illegal under the chess rules" rather than "illegal under the laws of any particular government".

Sid
@Deusovi Remember how I was complaining about that horrible hunt yesterday? Here's the storyline of the "puzzle"
Mark Atled, a 44 year old mathematician was murdered in his own house in Manhattan, USA. He was attacked by an unidentified masked man. 3 CIA members part took in the investigation of the case of which the chief was named Will Foreman and the other 2 members were Lucy Jackson and Harry Zeal.
On examining the house closely on lines of a planned murder, the CIA group found a few things to be noted in the house. These things were compass (which pointed to a fixed direction), an envelope, a plate with a symbol. The most peculiar piece spotted was the blood smeared pattern present on the eye of

...Tom Rundonf???

Sid
Rudonf, yeah.

Was that the answer to that one "mount ford" puzzle?

Sid
2:45 PM
That was the answer to the previous puzzle containing the exact same "code".
They reused that thing again and the answer to that part was Canada(somehow)

"an unnamed man called Biz Stone"

Do they have an archive of the actual puzzles? I'd like to see them.

Sid
Nah, I don't think so. At least, it's not on the website

also, I like how "MARX" is always in all-capitals
so much of this just seems like nonsense
"PROO DELTA"??? 3G --> "U" --> "you"?

Sid
See where they talked about the "U" part.
That part was actually one of the sub-puzzles in the very early stages of the hunt..
(I was joking with a friend that the guy was telling "we were the killers")

Sid
3:00 PM
@Apep lol. I didn't notice that...

3:13 PM
> compass (which pointed to a fixed direction)
What an interesting compass

yeah, those compasses that change where they point are so unreliable
you'll never know which way forward is if it keeps turning!

Sid
@Deusovi I have only one puzzle with me from that hunt. Here it is.

o_O

Sid
(Oh, and if anyone does solve that, do tell me what it is)

Does the phone number you get actually exist? (I'm trying to determine if this is as bad as underclued imgur mazes or worse)

Sid
3:28 PM
Nope. Random number.

104 fits for the first sentence, but I doubt they would require knowledge of foreign languages.

Sid
Wait, let me search if they ever posted the answer somewhere...
Yes, the answer is 3457777777. Make of that what you will...

The last sentence tells that it requires 10 digits (the first 3 digits were optional about 10 years ago)

345>Pythagorean triplet>Triangle>Angle>Angel is tenuous enough to be plausible here

oh god, I hope that's not it
but it very well might be

Sid
3:33 PM
Yes. It was that. :P
(For the first 3 digits. I have no idea about the last 7)

what, did you ask?

Sid
@Deusovi Yeah. They "hinted" about Pythagorean triplets

The last seven are just "number of days in the week" filling the remaining spots

hm, they don't seem to understand English grammar or basic logic

I am almost embarrassed that I managed to guess it

3:36 PM
@Apep Incidentally, some parts of Canada still use 7 digits for local calls, and only add the area code if you're calling them from somewhere else. Other places use all 10 digits for local calls.

Isn't Canada a fictional place?

@Ankoganit :(

yesterday, by edderiofer
TIL that Canada is a fictional location.

Ah, makes more sense. I was worried that I was just a figment of someone's imagination... :P

Sid
Lol. That was their attempt at red herring
Lol. That was their attempt at red herring

3:54 PM
@GarethMcCaughan Hehehe there is one piece of your response that is right. Not gonna tell you which one (unless you ask nicely). Full disclosure, there's some red herrings in the puzzle itself, and you've considered analyzing one of them. :)

Q: Pirate game but with a twist? [Puzzle-Creation]

VepirPirate game You might've already heard of the pirate game or seen it as a riddle, but if you haven't, in short: You have $5$ pirates and $100$ gold coins. The rank of each pirate is known. Highest ranked pirate is the captain. He proposes how the gold will be split among the five pirates. Othe...

8:11 PM
@Alconja If this is just a ddef it seems like it could be pretty wide open. I'll attempt "ACCESSIBLE", with a meaning of both friendly/congenial (and specifically "Open to the influence of"), as well as reachable/easily obtained (and specifically "at hand").

sounds reasonable, actually
but yeah, open enough that I can't tell if it's right or not without Alconja's confirmation

I think it might not be a ddef
but that's just me

I was kind of hoping that it wasn't too
but I couldn't find any synonyms of open that began with over or something of the sort for the slash

It could be &lit for the edge of something or to toggle openness. In that case / could be insertion (divided by).
Unen(close)d almost works, but open would be both def and wordplay.

8:31 PM
I solved level 6 of that jelly puzzle game
7 was easy too

8:45 PM
@ffao have you gotten 8?

no, I went to sleep

@Apep Yeah it'd have to be a ddef. or a &lit if "/" is an insertion indicator, and there doesn't seem to be any other possible indicators in there.

9:01 PM
skipped 8, level 9 was easy
10 simmilar
To stop spamming this room, I created a room specifically for the jelly puzzle, can someone move the messages?

@Rubio It could be simple charades, where "open" is the def, and "slash close" are concatenated to make the solution (or vice-versa).

we don't need any of that here

?
I'm pinging Rubio so that he can destroy the user.

I know

And I've been doing that here for months.

We don't need users like that is what I was saying

9:31 PM
So I'm not sure what you're referring to.
Ooh.
VTC: Unclear ;)

10:01 PM
(zapped)

10:58 PM
@Rubio That's the one. And sorry to disappoint those looking for something more, was a quick one bashed out because I had to run. Also, I agree that it seems like it could be a bit broad, but I think that's mostly appearances, if you go looking there aren't actually that many words that would fit, and certainly not as cleanly as accessible....

I did poke for a while, and that was the best I found.
CCCC: Show Gareth (perhaps) to be a strange man living with a sister in Britain. (6)
and I'll offer the immediate caveat that Gareth's inclusion here is completely gratuitous.

well, I did say accessible was a quite reasonable answer
it's just that when you're in this site for too long you stop expecting people to play straight

:) this is true

11:19 PM
@Rubio U(NMA*+S)K?

CCCC: Behind wood hides evil (6)

11:48 PM
hm
Is there some reason why "evil" would give R ?
B(R)EECH hehe

R-rated movies, perhaps? (but no, that would be quite the stretch) :P
