@GarethMcCaughan I agree. For one thing, kings are treated differently (a player may not make a move if it exposes that player's king to an orthodox check, no matter whether the checking man is guarded or not), so solvers who don't think of that possibility would misunderstand. ...

By the way, in regards to what brain does sometimes, once, when I was working in a call centre, when the phone rang, I answered with "1, 2 ... " I made a pause and continued with the standard greeting. Haha

... For another, some fairy chess rules affect check, but with some, check is orthodox (and you have to specify Rex Inclusiv if you want kings to be subject to the fairy rule like all the other pieces). So even experienced solvers who know this issue will need to know.
I did a bit of research into fairy chess rules and I have to say that I have never come across this one before. It's similar to Lortap (aka Elliuortap), but Lortap merely prevents defended units from capturing and checking; in Dawson's problem defended units can't move at all.

Does anyone know what "User was removed" means?

Q: What does "user was removed" mean and why did my reputation change because of it?

aef Message appearing when a user was removed. It seems I lost 5 reputation points on Stack Overflow yesterday. The reason given in my history is "removed", with the description of "User was removed (learn more)". I don't understand what that means. What caused this? Return to FAQ index

@Areeb It looks like somebody's sockpuppets are being cleared out, and various people are losing rep because of posts those sockpuppets have upvoted. Don't worry about it.

2:19 PM
@Randal'Thor oh thanks for clarifying

2:31 PM
@Randal'Thor Yes, looks that way to me. The OP says he thought of it, so it's not a puzzle he saw in print (such a thing would've had to be accepted by an editor).

hi..I am looking for the longest english language where all the vowels sounds are like the letter "a"
is that a suitable puzzling question?

4:03 PM
@Lembik It seems troublesome to me -- which sounds count as "like the letter 'a'"?

Sid
Don't all the vowels have distinctive sounds?

@Lembik You could say that all the vowel sounds in "great-grandfathers" are like the letter a: "great" has the sound of a in "day"; "grand" and "fa" of course have the sound of a, and "-ers" has the sound of a at the end of "comma". And you can put as many "greats" as you like before "grandfathers".
@Sid But the troublesome bit is relating sounds to the letter "a".

Sid
@RosieF Yeah, Right.. And btw, Great puzzle yesterday.

@RosieF day and neigh for example
@RosieF I meant the "a" sounds as in day and neigh

4:27 PM
@Sid Thank you.

Q: Too broad riddles

CipherRiddleI've been seeing this "trend" lately. For example, this riddle had lots of answers that looked good to me, and the OP had to add a hint to make the puzzle more specific. Puzzles should not require us to look at hints to solve them, otherwise that hint should've been included in the original que...

I am creating a puzzle with so many puns, I'm making myself laugh...
I'm going to wait till Monday to post it though

Daily call to 10k-ers (@Gareth @Alconja @Jonathan?) for delete votes on old bad closed questions: one, two, three, four, five.
Boom! One down already.

Are there really so few of us?
wow only 19

There are 19 users over 10k
ninja'd

@JonathanAllan There are nineteen 10k+ users, but two of those are mods and another 6-10 don't do much here any more.

5:48 PM
I'd say only 9-10 of them are regurlaly active

that reminds me
...where's my t-shirt

Did anyone get one?

Btw @Jonathan, since I haven't included you in my VTD pings before, you might like to have a look at a few more questions which are probably delete-worthy :-)
@BeastlyGerbil Not as far as I know. If my experience with SFF mod swag is anything to go by, we should get emailed with a tracking number and stuff when it's sent out.
(and if hearsay on various metas is anything to go by, it could take a loooong time)

To be honest they probably wouldn't have a size that would fit me so it doesn't matter I was suspended at the time

@Randal'Thor limit reached

5:56 PM
Maybe you should include this to the deletion list ;)

I'm so lazy - about doing stuff like that regularly; hence why I did not run for mod

@JonathanAllan Wow, I thought the limit was so large nobody would actually reach it except on SO and Programmers.

Or does it scale with rep, so a 12k user has a lower limit than a 36k user?

must do

5:59 PM
Btw, you know about the 10k tools?
There are some deletion stats there.

I haven't actually used them much (I suspect few 10k-ers have), but there's a lot of info there if you have the time and inclination to go through it.

Q: Checkmate all the kings #1

Lord of darkThe purpose of this puzzle is to find the minimum number of moves to checkmate all the kings RULES You are playing as White and you can make as many moves as you want before Black turn. During your moves you can take any black piece except kings. During your moves your king ...

New puzzle, it's an easy one but I'm not sure if it's clear enough

11:02 PM
nice. Only confusing thing was the first checkmate example (given it only has two rows - the kings could maybe not be in mate)
