9:00 PM
big ol' bird
@BillyONeal needed more shutter speed

seconded

Yeah -- edges are a bit blurry
Sky is blown out too

Get me get my best!

I have noticed that imgur has given my Peregrine shot the file name 'uuGay'

@ElendilTheTall lol

9:01 PM
I feel judged

Other issue with that shot is the background kind of stinks but I'm not sure what I can do about it
Planning on going back to that location this weekend to play some more

ya, thats just part of learning, you start to be aware of your background and not just your subject

Just a lot of gulls there because it's kind of an open-air market next to a large body of water

If I'm trying to capture birds in flight I actually stick to Aperture priority mode and take what shutter speed I can get
unless the lighting is very even
which if you're out in the open is more likely

ok how to upload here?

9:03 PM
Hmm.. wonder if there's a way to force the exposure to change then

@a-cube upload button to the right

When I do that the camera tries to overexpose everything, so I've been doing everything manually
At least, for shots where the sky is the background

@ElendilTheTall i go into A mode, set the auto iso at like 1/1000th or something for birds, and then snap away. I'd rather have the iso a bit high, than unintentional motion blur

Exposure Compensation, and use center-weighted metering not matrix

yup

9:04 PM
@BillyONeal that was for you billy
I fiddled around with dynamic/3D AF but in the end just stuck to spot and timed my shots

Can please tell me how to upload a pic here :)

@A-cube there's a button to the right of your message box that says upload

@ACube either just post a direct link to the picture, or the 'upload' button
@ElendilTheTall ditto

how to upload the file from my computer?

@ACube click the upload button

9:06 PM
there is no UPLOAD button!

@ACube: Yes, there is. Right next to the "Send" button, which is right next to the textbox you use to put in text

@BillyONeal Generally center-weighted metering is the best mode to leave the camera in
it meters the whole scene but puts the most emphasis on what's in the center

I can only see SEND button LoL I am a web developer

could be a rep thing, but I didn't think rep tied into chat

9:10 PM
no I dont have that

upload to your blog and post the link to the image in that case

Ok

@BillyONeal Now that is a great shot
superb composition
strong lines
interesting letterbox crop

i like the exteremly deep depth of field

shame about the face on the left, but what're you gonna do?

9:11 PM
Haha

lol

See? Ten minutes in our presence and already your skills are improving
That'll be $200

Well, I did switch to this new camera in the process
SnagIt deserves at least some of the credit

I wonder why JamWheel's borderline racist comment regarding American spelling has 4 stars?

9:13 PM
If I do end up getting a zoom like that, I'll probably need a tripod too

Get the tripod first

Yeah
Here comes the NAS

Useful for just about everything
I was joking re. JamWheel's comment

Can't fathom spending $1000 on a tripod though

You guys can't spell for toffee
;)
Well, getting a $50 tripod is something of a false economy
Any tripod is better than none, but a good tripod is exponentially better than a cheap one

9:15 PM
Sure, but there's got to be a happy medium in there somewhere

Yeah - about $400

If I was a professional or something then $1000 on a tripod would make more seonse
Sense*

Having said that, I have a dirt-cheap tripod

That's hilarious that the tripod would be $100 more than the lens
But I can see the point
What about a $10 tripod?
:P

@BillyONeal hold, there's a steal of a deal on a tripod on amazon, way better than your average walmart pos

Smart Sharpen in Photoshop hides a multitude of sins
:D

the last pic a great shot!

Rfusca: Holding

slipping
can't....hold.....on

@ACube nice fish

which one mate!
check out this last link

There is a school of thought that says you're better off buying a really good tripod straight away, because it will be cheaper than getting 3 or 4 progressively more expensive tripods
but in reality, it's more a matter of getting the best you can afford

Guys what about the review about my pics?

9:23 PM
@ElendilTheTall thats the rich persons school of thought who buy a D3x as their starter camera

We'll see what happens once I get paid next lol

@rfusca hating is bad
:D

@ElendilTheTall lol

here is the Flower in the dark pics sporadiclogic.blogspot.com/2011/06/some-pics.html

blame me, i'm just a stupid American ;) the lack of being able to spell has made me angry ;)

9:24 PM
@rfusca use your words...

I don't understand the D3x. The s looks like a much better camera

This coming from someone who's never actually seen either

The x is $2000 cheaper
Walking around money for most of us
but it might matter to some of the plebs

EXcuse me!

9:26 PM
The S is $2000 cheaper
D3x == $8k, D3s == $6k

excuse me!

@ACube ok, you've got to take a chill pill. You're posting a bunch of snapshot quality external links and you've never been here before. CALM DOWN

@BillyONeal You know what I meant
:)

Erm.. all the more reason for the s to be the better camera
I'll take low light performance over resolution any day

9:30 PM
well, I gotta bounce
have a good one gents

@ElendilTheTall ciao

So you all are saying my pics are |SHIT!

@ACube: I've not seen anyone say that. A correctly exposed snapshot is better than an incorrectly exposed piece of art

click on those pics and they show the true colours

And most of those are at least correctly exposed :)

9:33 PM
@ACube i'm saying they're your typical snapshot, point your camera in auto, subject in the center of the frame, on-axis flashed, pictures. Nothing particularly remarkable, but certainly not the worst ever

There goes my hobby!
tata

sigh

Well, you Did say you took them with a cell phone camera. Just sayin

No only the few of the robins
others were from different cameras
on of HP
One Canon
and one is Chinese model
I got this great Yashica camera that uses Film
and I got 2 lenses One is teleport and other wide!

@ACube are any of those pics from that camera?

9:40 PM
the Yashica camera!
Yashica was not used in these pictures!
I got a tripod too for that one!
One view finder!
one flash gun

@BillyONeal - so you're a Microsoft fluky now?
@ACube cool

Who is in Microsoft!

there's gonna be a worldwide shortage of exclamation marks at this rate

he he he
I got some cool pics of sky
hello
I am sorry! I just got Soo excited to see people talking about cameras and pics
@rfusca @BillyONeal Hello

@ACube lol, its ok

9:49 PM
u guys can continue
these are the lenses for Yashica

@ACube actually, i've got to head out
ciao

Thanks mate
take care
@BillyONeal is this a good camera!

10:13 PM
@rfusca Yes, I'm a MicroSerf now
At least, for the next two months or so

@BillyONeal for shame
you know @JayLancePhotography used to work there I believe

Why should I be ashamed of myself?

@BillyONeal just messing with ya ;)

Ah :)
Actually had to look that up -> google.com/…

lol
although, I'm not a particular fan of Microsoft products, I understand the appeal

10:16 PM
Depends on the product of course
I'm typing this in Google Chrome, and I just posted a link to Google's search engine

indeed

OTOH, I'm not a huge fan of Linux boxes, but I'm not going into a holy war here :)
I'd assume lots of people at Photo.SE are Mac people

hmmm not that i'm aware of
remember, we're derived from a tech site - SO

Tis true

so alot of folks have a tech background
and thus we see alot of Windows and Linux

10:19 PM
I tried so damn hard to like Linux lol

lol

Always feel like I'm the elephant in the room sometimes because most everyone at my school are Unix-heads
Damn thing never ran right on my hardware though.

lol
ya, its a different beast

10:50 PM
how do

@JamWheel hey jam
