Since we have not had much discussion about the election date and nominees would it be best to make an event to help draw the attention of members and so everybody knows when to come to discuss?

Hi there, so I really would like to see the bioacoustics SE grows. I am ready to dedicate some time to it. I do not have experience in moderation but happy to learn. So really just here to help the community if needed
@AmandineGasc Are you able to run? As in you did not get suspended. And I don't think it's too bad that you don't have experience in moderation since from what I have heard there is a chat room or something for all SE mods to help each other out. Also reviewing, flagging, editing (mabey), and voting to close and delete could be called a moderation experience and help you learn about it.
@Ethan I have not been suspended
@Ethan But I am not even sure how/where I can nominate myself xD
4:40 PM
@AmandineGasc there is a moderator FAQ on MSE: meta.stackexchange.com/questions/tagged/moderator-faq and when you get elected as moderator you get access to online training and to the "Teams" site that has plenty of guidance as well.

And there is chat ...
@AmandineGasc You can't nominate yourself yet since the election did not start.
@ElectionBot what is an election?
bot died ...
@ElectionBot what is an election
yea. Or its because its not in the room though I don't know how the API works
@AmandineGasc maybe helpful to get an idea what an election is: stackoverflow.com/election/13
4:49 PM
We need 4 nominations for the election to go on right since we have 3 mod slots for the election?
@Ethan How many do we have so far?
NaN since the nomination period did not start. You said you are going to nominate yourself that will make it 1. I believe @selene is still eligible and is going to run again and that will make it 2.
@AmandineGasc you are among he first to publicly announce their interest. So that is good.
@AmandineGasc I'm still looking to see if that query is right but atm it is an underwhelming result :/ sorry, about that.
I'll check the requirements for beta sites.
@Ethan yeah, you need 3 candidates for 3 positions. In that case the primary will be skipped so after nomination it is straight into election, IIRC.
4:58 PM
@rene wait only 3 nominations are needed. Then why would we need an election then instead of skipping it like the primary?
Oh, right
yes. That makes it 4 needed
I'm just being blurry
again
Primary (active only if there are >10 nominees)
that answers my question
You're welcome ;)
Thanks. Is there a way to keep like a wiki in chat so we can keep track of the # of people that said they are going to nominate themselves?
Mmm, not really. You could star their message. Or bookmark their message
5:05 PM
I was thinking more of a way of making it unlimited edit time so we can pin 1 message then just edit as more people say they will nominate
You could post an answer on the featured Meta post and pin a link to it here.
Could we have a list of people activity vs if they can be nominated? I feel that they should be the one informed specificcaly about the situation and the nomination aspect. Unless it is against the rules?
@AmandineGasc On most sites (including this one) you just need 300+ rep and have not been susped in the past year to nominate. This means they can earn their rep through editing and never make a single post.
@Slate Would it be best just to include the number or the number and who is nominating?
Yeah but like how do I know they have been suspended?
@Ethan It's kinda your choice - whatever you think would be more useful for y'all's organization purposes. If it were me, I'd default to logging as much info as possible - "[X](user link) expressed interest in nominating [here](link)" - without putting pressure on someone to follow through if they reconsider later.
5:10 PM
@AmandineGasc You know if they are currently suspended by looking at their profile or if they say they were suspended. If their suspension is over you cant tell unless you are a mod on that site.
Also, I heard 3 mod have been suspended and one is still mod. Can we know who that is?
If a mod is suspended on a different site (Then they are mod on) they stay a mod I believe. And once a suspension ends it stays private unless that user makes it public.
5:30 PM
@Ethan @Ethan, I am not eligible, unfortunately. But plan to still be an active member with reviewing, flagging, etc!
Got it.
@AmandineGasc That is correct, @Dan Stowell was not suspended so I'm hopeful he would be willing to nominate again. He would be a great mod, I think. He's not in the chat though, from what I can tell
A list of people currently willing and able to nominate can be found here.

@selene Yea they are not in the room. They will get a notification since you mentioned them unless they muted the room
Ok, hopefully they see that!
5:49 PM
Here is a question, do we want to have an election questionnaire?
It is not necessary, but some communities use them.
@HenryWHHackv3.0 I saw that looking around at other sites (and because I was able to vote for the Pets site and I think they had one if I'm remembering correctly) and to me it seems like that will be more useful maybe in the future and when we have more nominees possible.
For the initial election we all sort of shared what our expertise was and why we thought we would be good and to me that was enough to be able to vote confidently. But curious what others think.
6:08 PM
I agree. For now I dont think we need a questionnaire for now

10:14 PM
Hi all, happy to submit my name as a potential nominee for moderator. I think I should be okay to run - as far as I can tell I just got a strongly worded message when the suspensions happened, but it does not say that my account was suspended. I was away for 3 weeks when the suspensions happened but my account seemed normal when I came back. @Ethan I tried to edit your post to add my name, but it said "Suggested edits are not allowed on non-tag-wiki posts on meta sites".
@TaikiSakai So you were suspended then your apple got accepted?
I don't think I was ever suspended, the private message I got from moderators does not mention my account being suspended anywhere. And if I remember correctly my reputation was at its normal value when those who were suspended had theirs temporarily set to 1.
@TaikiSakai if you got suspened you should of gotten an email. Since you were never suspended you are elegble to nominate so I will add you to the post now.
10:48 PM
@TaikiSakai Yay! Thanks for stepping up and being willing to serve the community!
11:04 PM
I remembered reading that a sending a moderator private message also has an automatic suspension function. So if you got a private message that means you was also suspended.
^^ Unofficial Answer ^^
I did some looking up and it turns out I was wrong.
