@Derpy I think it's fairly common in many places. Here it's usually the cohort of academically inclined teenagers from rural areas who move out at a young age
And the urban kids generally live with their parents --- if there's room for them --- for a few years more because it's economical.
because people aren't like, asking for your birth certificate all the time but people would happen to ask questions to a kid who applied herself into high school with no apparent,... parents or guardians
It's the sum of all of that. Why this kid is so independent while she doesn't seem to legally exist? Suppose she finds a part-time job.... Birthplace: Canterlot Date of Birth: season #, episode # Education: Celestia's school for magical Unicorns
Social worker would at some point be sent to check that she has proper shelter and income at the very least
if she did then wtv I think? but I don't know what she's done in those areas
so if we are asking the questions, then yes she needs more than just the fact that she actually does exist to keep the authorities from asking what is going on with her apparent aloneness
Again, Aelita principle. In Code Lyoko they hack into the local civil registry archiveand alter the data so that Aelita is registered as Odd cousin. Notice that in the animated show there is no hint that Odd parents have been informed of what is going on. And after the show ended... I mean, she has no backstory, what will she do in the future?
(if they wanted to put her in an odd place, they did it. I kinda remember a fan artwork of Sunset selling sushi being made far before that episode, maybe they got the idea there?)
@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica not necessarily, she never mentions that again, so that could have been an one-time thing. Like when they started washing cars to collect money for a school trip.
yeah if she's an industrious hard worker I can buy that the financial aspect is covered
and I have no idea if anyone would be prompted to dig deeper than "she seems to be adequately or better taking care of herself" but I'm not an expert on what exactly social workers would look into in cases like this in real life
I'm fairly sure at some point they would get involved but I have no idea if they would bother to dig into paperwork after realizing she's doing fine, or what they would do upon not finding anything
absolute worst case scenario Immigration might get involved? I don't know XD
for all I know they would just be like "oh well you don't have a birth certificate, I guess we need to draft one up, how old are you?"
I will say I don't feel like a kids show does need to answer these questions, but I do think it's an interesting thought experiment XD
@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica I don't think they have anything like that because they are,.. some magically created human-ish dimension in a pony world? but I was mostly going off of Kivirii applying American RL logic to her situation
and I was mostly going off of that at that point
@Derpy well then she could make something up I guess, not the worst lie she would ever have told I assume
I assume she isn't so horrible at math that she can't come up with an equivalent age that works
@trogdor has to be kinda a genius in the first place if she managed to pick up school without ever having studied some topics before. But that would probably be too much nitpicking. It's mostly no one bothering that she has no past.
At least until movie 1. By movie 2 the whole school basically knows she was a pony and simply does not care.
Probably because pony Sunset is far less annoying that Old Sunset that everyone assumed was an human.
or maybe the school just happens to be in front of Foster's House....
Could also be the Doraemon/Atatu lemma. By now the city has given up hope to live normally because they know those kids will be constantly causing a mess... so they don't care anymore.
Never owned either version, just read about it in some anime discussion.
Apparently it was kinda like Fate, but aimed at creating nonsense
@trogdor BTW, if you ever heard about an old anime called "Galaxy Express 999", Oizumi Anime station actually has that anime theme used as the train departure tune.
BTW, if anyone was wondering why the character with the green hairs in the picture above is only wearing a swimsuit in the station statue, that's because those are actually her standard clothes.
She is supposed to be an oni.
And in Japan folklore, Oni always wear tiger-skin clothes
Despite that, let me say that the actual anime is less fanservice focused that you may think, especially compared to recent years ones.
@trogdor Remember the "Shantae And the Seven Sirens" scalpers on Amazon, all with a 15-to-30 October shipment date??? While in the meantime Limited Run Games had no info about it on the site???
Well, guess what....
Checked the page just now.
How could the scalpers know the actual shipment date before Limited run revealed it?????
Or Doombro, depending on who you ask. Either way, there is an ongoing meme of drawing Doomguy with various characters, teaching them how to play the game
@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica more seriously, I don't know.
