@enderland yes, once you move away from "torah is binding" at all, which Paul kinda had to do to get the gentiles (circumcision), it's hard not to continue down that path and end up at "that was for them, not for us" and see none of it as binding.
Christianity picks some things from torah that it says are obligatory too (10 commandments, and alone among the laws in Leviticus, certain sexual laws), but ignores others (definition of Shabbat, keeping kosher, etc). How they made/make those decisions is not clear to me and probably an interesting study.
