7:02 AM
Well its almost the weekend, hopefully we will now see a few more names drop into elections!

4 hours later…
11:21 AM
Is there a point in going through with the election, if all candidates get elected by default? (assuming a fourth candidate won't appear, obviously)
I think I'll nominate myself the last minute, just to have a loser in the election. It won't be a real election without a loser.

CMW
You just want to win, admit it :D

12:08 PM
@YannisRizos no need to be so hard on yourself yannis, we dont think youre that much of a loser! ;)

@RhysW stop feeding the troll ;)

Yannis is a troll?

@RhysW ...and I have the diamonds to prove it ;P

Is that how it works? mods are just an easy way to identify network trolls?

nah that's just @YannisRizos

CMW
12:59 PM
:D

ooh everyone turning up here at once,it seems

CMW
@YannisRizos you spelled 'gonads' wrong
@RhysW Lunch is over. Pulled pork is out.

Lunch is over, so you start slacking? tsk tsk :P
hmm i still dont see any new candidates :(

2 hours later…
2:56 PM
@RhysW look again.

CMW
@MonicaCellio yay, welcome to the games, Monica :)

@MonicaCellio You have just earned maximum Rhys points

@CMW may the odds be ever in my favor? :-)
@RhysW cool! :-)
@RhysW I just saw your comment (after that last chat message). Awesome, and thanks! I'm also a little boggled that, 8 minutes after posting, I have that comment with two upvotes. Wow.

CMW
@MonicaCellio Mostly :D

@MonicaCellio Community support is strong

3:07 PM
@CMW well yes. But there are 3 slots. :-) (And as I said in my nomination post, I'm willing to be a mod if that's what folks want but I'm also happy to be a high-rep user who moderates from there.)

we wouldnt ask you to run if we didnt intend to support you!

I do hope @jmort253 decides to run too.

hes as on the fence as you were
we gave him the same talk we gave you :P

I saw. (I haven't been in the main chatroom yet today, but I've scanned the transcript. I often do that (not just here) when I'm a little too busy to get sucked into conversations but I still want to know what's up.)

:14536572I now have a new game, try and guess when monica is sneak reading
and then ping you :P

3:14 PM
@RhysW :-) Here's a hint on the "no" side: Shabbat.

It might be because it's friday, but i have no idea what the above means :P

Come sundown, you'll have a really easy time not losing that game.

Maybe my brain is just mush, still lost

ahhhh
so if its sunday probably/definitely no :p

3:21 PM
@RhysW I'm not here on Shabbat; it's a day of rest. Shabbat is every Friday evening through Saturday night.

ohh i thought sunday, my apologies
im rather ignorant when it comes to some things
/uninformed

@RhysW no need to apologize. Christians tend to refer to their day, Sunday, as "the sabbath" too, but it's not really the same concept.

CMW
@MonicaCellio Sounds great either way. Happy to have you around

So when people hear Shabbat they sometimes think of Sunday because of that.

CMW
I always thought the idea behind sabbath used to be the same
pretty much just hijacked
it's just that most "christians" just don't care

3:28 PM
it's a lot more complicated than that, @CMW

CMW
I sure don't, but the only christian thing about me is my name
@enderland it always is...

@CMW the earliest Christians had Jewish roots and, as I understand it, kept Shabbat (Saturday) just like Judaism requires. But they added the idea of "the lord's day", Sunday because that's the day of Easter, and as they moved out into the gentile world and started downplaying the stuff from Judaism, Shabbat/Saturday fell away. Or at least that's how it was explained to me; I'm no expert. I've read a book or two.

CMW
I'm kinda sorta supposed to know about it, if you ask my school teachers :)

Surprisingly religion i did well in (in school)

@MonicaCellio there is also a lot of movement away from "old testament law applying to Christians" that factors in, I think, though I do have some friends who try to maintain a sabbath day (or time)

3:43 PM
@enderland yes, once you move away from "torah is binding" at all, which Paul kinda had to do to get the gentiles (circumcision), it's hard not to continue down that path and end up at "that was for them, not for us" and see none of it as binding.
Christianity picks some things from torah that it says are obligatory too (10 commandments, and alone among the laws in Leviticus, certain sexual laws), but ignores others (definition of Shabbat, keeping kosher, etc). How they made/make those decisions is not clear to me and probably an interesting study.
This might not be the right room for this discussion, though.

:)

4:07 PM
I think that varying religions have a lot to offer to everybody, religious or not

Ok, question for moderator candidates: Can you draw seven perpendicular red lines, some with red ink, some with green ink and some with transparent ink? And maybe... can you make one of the lines look like a kitten?
