23:01
But yeah I've always been curious what it'd be like to feel intense pain
Not in like a concerning way, just genuine scientific curiosity of the Newton-impaling-his-eye sort
ಠ_ಠ
Like normal people are afraid of needles, I just find them cool
Like when I was donating blood and they stuck the big needle thing in my arm they were like "you probably want to look away" and I was just like "nah I wanna see"
There is something wrong with you
More so than the average TNBer
I just kinda want to know everything
@RydwolfPrograms What is this? Looking up "newton eye impale" doesn't give any pleasant results
23:08
I once read in a science textbook that Newton stabbed a needle through his eye to learn how light worked, but apparently the story was exaggerated
Is it something I would be comfortable knowing or is it gruesome and likely to give a normal person nightmares for weeks
wtf
It's like how chocolate and coffee are good because they're better
Bitter is the taste equivalent of pain
It's designed to warn us to not eat stuff
And usually we're hardwired to hate it
idk about you but I like my chocolate and coffee sweet
But in small amounts or as contrast, it just works
And there's a huge difference between a little bitterness and the pain you'll get from stabbing stuff into your eyes
23:10
@user Well the point of chocolate is that it's both sweet and bitter
Dark chocolate?
If it was just sweet there'd be no point in eating it as chocolate
It'd just be sugar with a unique texture
That's enough reason to eat it
I mostly agree actually
Maybe a bad metaphor in the case of chocolate
But there's definitely foods where bitter contributes to the flavor in a positive way
Grapefruit's one I can think of, tho a bit of an acquired taste
Eh, maybe, but there's a huge difference between that sort of thing and stabbing
23:12
Well the pain of literally dying is only something I'd be interested in once
I would scratch off a scab even if I knew it'd hurt a bit, but I wouldn't plunge a knife into my stomach
Not that I have a choice
And it's more of an opportunistic interest
Like, if I'm dying anyway I might as well get the full experience
Not doing so would leave me a less well rounded person
@RydwolfPrograms You can have serious injuries and survive, but obviously not a good idea
This discussion is reminding me of a webcomic but it's a bit too NSFW to share
@RydwolfPrograms Yes, because the most important thing when dying is that you're well-rounded :P
23:15
@RydwolfPrograms I'm sure it's fiiiine
Well yeah, at every step in my life I've been having to polish my resume for the next thing, so I assume it's that way with death too :p
Imagine getting to the Pearly Gates and having to write an essay :P
@RydwolfPrograms is it Oglaf
Actually it is, there's one that's pretty relevant to this
Well a couple
It's seriously hard to search for specific ones tho
Choose one of the following prompts and write a 1000-letter essay on it:
- Tell us why you should *not* get into heaven
- Tell us about your favorite kind of pizza
23:24
@RydwolfPrograms knew it
Then you realize that all along you were in hell and all the overachievers and legacy admits are already chilling in heaven
@RydwolfPrograms NSFW in a gory way, or just language?
NSFW as in sex comedy
Oh
@RydwolfPrograms are there any unusually-high-CPU-usage processes on my droplet?
it's being weirdly slow
Idk, I don't have SSH access, lemme check the CPU usage graph
You're at around 60% CPU usage rn
High disk I/O too
23:28
odd, seeing as I'm not logged in
(or using a tunnel)
@RydwolfPrograms The way I heard it, it was a small smooth rod that he stuck between his eyeball and eye socket--less damaging, but still a bit questionable.
@Ginger Probably MediaWiki
me when mediawiki
is it done yet?
Which, I'll say it again, is not designed to run one a single lil VM to host a teensy little toy wiki
No, the CPU usage is at 80% now and it's consistently using half a gig a second in disk I/O
*internal screaming*
23:32
You might want to set up some logging to verify what's causing this
I'm going to go have dinner, maybe it'll fix itself
It seems to happen pretty regularly
I probably shouldn't have this publically associated with me in any way but the lack of transcripts or even ctrl+f of titles for Oglaf is so annoying I might just make a transcript search site for it myself
TIL Isaac Newton served as Master of the Royal Mint for 30 years and went to great lengths to prosecute counterfeiters
23:53
@user 1000 letters is like 2 pages
@Ginger tnh?
@user i actually searched "what does it fell like to get stabbed" once
and apparently it doesnt hurt that much at first
prob the adrenaline
