7:01 AM
@MarkMayo you nominated me?!?
to be honest, I don't know if I'm Consistently patient and fair when dealing with other users
and what about my avatar?

7:38 AM
mwahaha
ah but you could be :)
you don't have to accept it, of course :)

7:54 AM
Woo, first to the convention badge :)

no, you're second

8:36 AM
Q: How do I move here?

hmm, it only showed me meh
@Gagravarr I had to reject your changes to the tags to make into - although you linked the meta, I don't believe that was what was agreed upon in the meta? I thought the overwhelming consensus was ccs bad, words good?

@MarkMayo I think you have seen this link expatriates.stackexchange.com/help/badges/68/…

if i'm a south ossetian citizen immigrating from tibet to palestine, what country code tags should i use?

d-:
so show me one single question here that isn't just really about travel

8:47 AM
my latest one
3
Q: Is it possible to become a policeman in Germany as a non-citizen?

Dirty-flowAre non-citizens allowed to become police officers in Germany? Are there any restrictions? Are there any advantages for EU-citizens?

ok i'm totally convinced (-:

9:22 AM
@Dirty-flow that link still shows just me
ah, if I remove the userid and do expatriates.stackexchange.com/help/badges/68/convention then it shows Tim as well
but he doesn't count, he's staff ;)
(sorry @TimPost) ;)

let see who will earn the first gold badge

9:36 AM
oh it's on! ;)

9:51 AM
I have 2 profile views on the main site and 7 on meta :D

10:20 AM
Where are we on country names in tags?
There is a question on meta but I am not sure what to make of that
I saw already two edits in each direction (to or from full name or country code) for the Philippines…
I am cowardly “skipping” instead of accepting or rejecting but we need to decide at some point!
@Gagravarr I ate caldo verde (a Portuguese soup with kale or collard greens) in Macau, so it's possible to get some in the tropical parts of Asia ;-)

I think that on travel.se we use the full name, and there are 2 exceptions - usa & uk, but they are abbreviations
the problem is that country codes are not always clear

I also saw "nl" here on expatriates but this one makes sense, it's not so much a country code as a common short form
Dutch people use it all the time

IMO it's bad for a tag name

Also we have “citizen” and “citizens”

10:38 AM
I like citizens more
: For questions pertaining to citizens of the Netherlands.
another point to discuss: tag-wikis for countries
we have "For questions about migrating to or from the United Kingdom" and also "Living, working, studying and moving to France"

Yes me too, “citizens” somehow sounds better
But then English is not my mother tongue…
And I prefer the second description, tags are for questions, we don't need to repeat that every time

I don't know, another option would be "X is country in East Europe, member of the EU"
@MarkMayo can you edit your (my) nomination, it's linking to my meta profile but it should link to my main profile

11:26 AM
I did it myself after the post was turned into CW

ah sorry, just saw your flag
well tag
well...notification
anyway, you've done it :)
@GaëlLaurans the common move is to use plurals
in the tags
any singular ones should be converted into plurals
@hippietrail will insist on this when he gets around to messing with the tags, I'll bet ;)

One more question: Should we use adjectives or not?
Netherlands-citizens or Dutch-citizens?
And how can I get a formatted link to a tag like @dirty-flow above?

@GaëlLaurans IIRC it's [ tag : tag name ] (without the spaces)

OK, it works! Thanks
Is this one useful?
It sounds very broad

12:35 PM
there's already a :/
curse these two-letter country codes!

I think I retagged everything
Did I forget something? Should the old tag be somehow deleted as well?

1:01 PM
@GaëlLaurans it will be autodeleted
if there are no questions with this tag

@Dirty-flow And if there's no tag wiki associated with the tag (no-use tags with tag wikis aren't automatically culled)

thanks for the clarification :)

3 hours later…
4:00 PM
the community strikes back - @MarkMayo you've been nominated too!

4:11 PM
fancy that... ;-)

As a site about traveling or living abroad continues, the probability of Mark Mayo being nominated to moderate said site approaches one.

I wonder how non-habitual users of travel.SE will feel of travel.SE takeover of expats.SE. :)

anyone know how are those from Travel.SE who were against Expats are currently feeling now it is going ahead despite their objections?

The most vocal opponent is currently suspended for a year.
For unrelated offenses :)

It's going better than I thought it would, but the real test is how well it does in the long run
But with most of the top contributors, almost everybody on the chat and soon the moderators coming from travel.SE was it really necessary?

4:22 PM
luck :D
and quality
IMO we need quality questions and answers, and we should upvote good posts
we should be patiant with new users and show them what are they doing wrong

@Dirty-flow Are you campaigning? ;-)

probably :)
however I joined travel.se 1 year after the beta start so other users would know better what's necessary

3 hours later…
7:09 PM
Beta went public while I wasn't looking...
2

7:23 PM
that was early, wasn't it?

Don't think so.
I think it's been a week.
6 days to be exact.

so, maybe a day early then
I'm not seeing any questions is all
so, maybe a day early then
different question - is the meta site working for you?

Yep

ah, it's back
looked really odd just now, all the page furniture, but no content!

It happens on occasion

7:30 PM
looks like everyone just got their first silver badge :) beta

I think that's only assigned to those who get 200+ rep

7:51 PM
no, I have earned the beta badge on Soft recommendation and I got only 111 rep
there are other criteria

I guess so.

8:26 PM
@TimPost Now that the site is in public beta, can we start flagging Travel.SE questions that were closed as "off topic - expat" that look good to be migrated over?
or would you rather we largely just re-ask them on Expats if we think they're good?

9:08 PM
@Gagravarr I think I can nominate you for moderator and close the nominate-circle :D

9:39 PM
and that wouldn't in any way look like a stitch-up, now would it? ;-)
