@Gagravarr Until now the modal expat.SE heavy user is also a travel.SE heavy user

Why is that?

10 of the 20 top expat.se users (by reputation) are experienced travel.se users
but I think that when we reach the public beta, this will change

@Dirty-flow Okay so just correlation, not by intent.

10:04 AM
yup, because lots of us heavy travel users have a vested interest in expats doing well
and they also tend to be close to the types of questions we enjoy on travel too
(ie learning about other countries)

shopping related query - questions on buying home products in a new place - what do we think?
eg "Buying Australian food in the UK"

Dried Kangaroo meat?
Or rather cured kangaroo meat?

vegemite was more the sort of thing I had in mind!
it's more the Saffers who go in for dried meats ;-)

I've decided to make it a question on meta

Q: Shopping Questions - Home comforts

GagravarrWhat's our take on shopping questions? Specifically, ones around buying home comforts, such as foods from where you're from? As an example, thinking of an Aussie expat living in London, who hankers after a taste of things from home, are any of these going to be ok? Buying Australian Food in th...

@Gagravarr mmm, some kinds. Peacock Kale can't be grown in warm climates.

the wikipedia page on Kale suggests there's a kind that's popular in China / Taiwan / Vietnam, so you might be able to get that
Cooking.SE supports replacement questions, so you could ask about finding something similar there

For example, most Brassicas only grow in cold climes, and lots of kale requires a frost to grow well. At the point when Manila is having frosts, recreating a ...

Q: Who should the moderators be?

Tim PostI'm asking another of the essential meta questions as a precursor to some great news, Expats is going to be advancing to the public beta stage at some point this week!1 You all have done a fantastic job of building what appears to be a really strong site in the making. We're going to need leade...

@MarkMayo You going to throw your hat into the ring? You were great as a Travel.SE mod :)

@Gagravarr I heard dried meat! Biltong FTW!
and thanks. I'm not sure - I wouldn't mind for a while, but if it's like travel and I end up being pro-tem for 20 months, it can drag. Especially when there's frustrating users at times - I had a few sleepless nights worrying about some of them
