@user sy gust--we'll just sort through them after you're gone and keep the ones we like
01:01
Can we do more longer words please?
ipa-reader.xyz + aya + french?
The four letter, one to two syllable ones are getting a little crowded
idk man
@user it's a good thing my server has 1 whole gigabyte of RAM to store them!
WR: rilifior (n): air conditioner

@ASCII-only Yep
i think 3+ syllable words kind suck

WR: vontark (n): a question
@lyxal Word vontark added to queue.
@user i wouldn't be quite sure about that
different to "to ask"
I don't like it to just be a random jumble of 2-4 letter words though
01:03
do not define words too fast please, it screws with the bot

Q: How languages compare with the number of different syllables from all words?

Puco4Note: I am not a linguist, please provide any corrections for terminology. I would like to find some approximate data (if it exists) comparing several languages with the number of different syllables in all used words of the language and in the X% most used words of the language. I have been onl...

so 600-6000 unique syllables
WR: zimdo (n): Letter (of the alphabet)
@RedwolfPrograms Word zimdo added to queue.
for a lower bound of 360k and an upper bound of 36 million two-syllable words?
@ASCII-only I think we'll need some longer words given the sound system we've settled on. If we had tones, or different lengths of vowels, or more consonants, then we'd have more small words available.
01:04
idk about anyone else but i do think that's enough to last a whole
@ASCII-only sy, kashi no oto 360k lanii, baka

Should I keep GingerBot's current PFP or change it? onioni sysaliny
It's fine I guess
@DLosc i mean... it seems like english has the most number of syllables there. and even after removing several consonants you'd still end up with 1000+ unique syllables, i'm sure
@GingerIndustries Either keep it, or change it to a piece of ginger root
01:05
@GingerIndustries no
not to mention you only really need ~300 syllables to have a vocabulary of 100k
edit: math
and 100k is... a heck of a lot
@lyxal what is your suggestion then?
I'm going to take some time to get used to the numbering system
WR: fosnai (adj): Ethical

@GingerIndustries I meant no to changing it

Digits:

    1   ano
    2   ino
    3   ako
    4   iko
    5   ato
    6   ito
    7   afo
    8   ifo
    9   aro
    0   iri

Powers of ten:

    10    kib
    100   kid
    1k    kik
    10k   kin
    1m    kot
    1b    kol
    1t    kos
    1q    kon

Numbers are formed with a number of pairs of a digit and power of ten. For example, 2496 is:

    ino kik iko kid aro kib ito

On its own, ino is 2, but ino kik is 2000. On its own, powers of ten like kik also work as numbers.

You can use the ordinal particle, ry, to add a "th" to the number. For example, ry ato is "fifth", ry ifo kid

@RedwolfPrograms should probs add this to vocab.md
bruh
how does do work btw
@ASCII-only I would say that grammar words (particles, conjunctions, etc) should mostly be one or two syllables, but some commonly used content words (nouns, verbs, adjectives) are several syllables in English and I don't think it's a problem.

@DLosc right. but i'm pretty sure the vast majority of commonly used words are one or two syllables
@user alexa be like
@user niny spamrati :P
@Wezl-acautionarytale IIRC it's a preposition that means "from," and you also use it with comparatives and superlatives: "bigger from me" = "bigger than me"

floksinisinihilipilifikayshin: to consider something to be worthless
@ASCII-only pronounced "non-fungible token"
So I want to propose a word for "tall" that's pronounced vaguely like "oon-ch-uh" where the "ch" is lighter than the "ch" sound in English (idk IPA, sorry). Any idea how it'd be spelled in katlani?
anyway talking about programs
01:21
@user "oonchah"
yes?
what is that
@user "lighter"?
Like it sounds less...wet?

@user just import english as en lol
Ah good idea
01:28
and then en.hello en.there
lol
bruh
i should make my own conlang
if you want to do it fast you can use from english.american import * but we don't advise it

@user wait are we actually doing palatal stops
okay now i'm just confused
i thought maybe you got ipa and sampa mixed up but then i remembered sampa doesn't have any digraphs except with backslash
then i found the table here and... there's still nothing there with a ch digraph https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_ASCII_encodings_of_the_International_Phonetic_Alphabet
i'm going to assume that what you mean is you're thinking of having [tɕ] versus english's [tʃ]?

05:05
@UnrelatedString Not officially. sh is /ʃ/, though if anyone wants to pronounce it as a palatal fricative I'm sure that's fine. The sequence tsh is therefore /tʃ/, and if anyone wants to pronounce it as [tɕ] or even [c] that's fine, but it's officially two separate sounds.
